Welcome to our 2013 catalogue with lots of new designs, colours and materials. It's great with something new. Especially when it comes with experience. This year, we celebrate our 60th anniversary. Through three generations we have worked with furniture design, and we have learned our lessons. Our concept is all set, and our experience and heritage is carried through in everything we do. Since the beginning in 1952, in Denmark, our ambition has always been to create furniture that not only looks good, but is functional and good value for money too. We continue to have our own production in Denmark while working closely with a few, select international suppliers who share our commitment to high quality. We have come a long way since then. Now with more than 260 stores around the world, we find our inspiration from the urban lifestyle, but our commitment to creating good, honest and useful design is still the same. A commitment that is shared by our dedicated team of design consultants and interior decorators in our stores. Our modular designs can be customised to fit your needs and tastes, and our staff takes pride in offering you a highly professional service. THE FARGO SOFA IS THE ULTIMATE MODULAR SOFA SYSTEM WHERE YOU CAN CREATE ANY SIZE OR SHAPE IN ANY COLOUR YOU WANT AND CHOOSE BETWEEN TWO DIFFERENT TYPES OF FILLING FOR YOUR PREFERRED SITTING COMFORT. EVERY LITTLE DETAIL HAS BEEN CONSIDERED SO YOU END UP WITH A LOUNGING ZONE DESIGNED SPECIFICALLY FOR YOU.
SAME LOOK. DIFFERENT TYPES OF COMFORT Classic Comfort (picture 1) consists of high resilient foam in the seat cushions and feathersl foam in the back cushion. High resilient foam is very structurally stable, ensuring optimum comfort and a long lifetime.
The softer and more luxurious Premium Comfort (picture 2) is made of a two-component foam (hyper soft and high resilient) in the seat cushion and hollow conjugated fibre balls in the back cushions ensuring more density and stability.

The Fargo sofa is designed by Anders Nrgaard who is our specialist in designing great modular sofa concepts for BoConcept. This classic sofa has a feminine expression and is characterised by soft, curved proportions and elegant details like the distinctive shape formed by the joining of armrest and seat frame. 'When designing a new sofa I always strive to add some kind of characteristic detail, which will define the sofa and give it a personality of its own. Most sofas have horizontal and vertical lines, but with the Fargo I wanted to add a nice twist to the armrest. I think the soft shape makes the Fargo sofa unique, and it works beautifully with the slim as well as the wider armrests'. You are spoiled with a soft upholstered frame so you have a very elegant and smooth finishing. And with a constant eye on individual taste, Anders Nrgaard has designed two types of cushions that you can choose from. Low back cushions - for a modern, horizontal look - and high back cushions, providing even more comfort. You can even choose to mix them. The Fargo sofa is the combination of of the most select materials, craftsmanship and modern technology. We have even worked with different fillings for the cushions, so you can
choose your optimal sitting comfort. If you prefer a firm cushion that stays in shape and gives you good support, go for Classic Comfort. If you want to sink into a soft cushion, you can choose the Premium Comfort. So go ahead and play with the options and trust that the final result will work perfectly so you can enjoy your sofa for many years to come.

Indivi 2 is the ultimate modular sofa system with 14 different seating units and 7 different armrests so you can create a sofa in the size, shape and look that you want. You can even choose different types of fillings for the seat cushions depending on the look and comfort you prefer. HENRIK PEDERSEN
Henrik Pedersen is one of the upcoming stars of interior design. One of his first pieces of furniture was the iconic Imola chair for BoConcept, and he is one of the leading Danish designers of lamps. He graduated as a fashion designer in 1990 but uses his education to explore the full range of design. 'My education and experience is my toolbox. They provide me with a foundation. The creative process is really the same no matter what you design. It's the materials that make the difference and open up new possibilities.' His wide-ranging experience and his interest for maths give him an intuitive ability to quickly gauge if a new design will work or not. 'Experience and knowledge help, but the difference lies in how you use it. Good common sense and a passion for your craft will take you far.'
ANDERS NRGAARD
Anders Nrgaard who is has one of today's Danish designers received international recognition including the Red Dot and the Chicago Anthenaeum Good Design awards. He has a unique talent for designing modular sofa concepts that look great no matter how you put them together. 'I grew up with functionalism and craftsmanship. Danish architects of the 50s and 60s were friends of my parents and among my teachers at the School of Architecture. Most of my school holidays were spent with furniture makers where the wood joiners taught me all about the craft.' Staying true to his Danish heritage, he still praises the detail: 'While function may be the starting point, it's the small bursts of details that make the difference. They refine the look and make the design distinctive.'

MORTEN GEORGSEN
Morten Georgsen succeeds in bringing his Danish design heritage to an international audience who has embraced his talent for designing stylish furniture with multiple functions. He grew up in Western Denmark and has worked for the likes of Bang & Olufsen before founding his own design company 20 years ago. Now based in the vibrant city of Valencia, his ability to accomplish a lot with simple methods is put to great use when he designs furniture that is modular, foldable, extendable, and beautiful too. 'When you create multifunctional pieces, the challenge is to maintain the style and 'the simple is best' philosophy. The simplest, most modest look is by far the most complicated thing to achieve.' He is passionate about making good design available to more than the few: 'By the end of the day, furnishing is a practical need that we all have, and in that sense, we all deserve good style and quality that works.'
KARIM RASHID
Karim Rashid is one of the most prolific designers of this generation with more than 3000 designs in production and 300 awards including the Red Dot and the Chicago Athenaeum Good Design awards. From a very young age, Karim was obsessed with drawing. 'My father is a painter, an artist, and a set designer for television, and he took me sketching churches in England. He taught me to see - he taught me perspective and that I could design anything and touch all aspects of our physical landscape.' Years later, Karim completed his design degree in Ottawa, Canada, which is also the name of his dining room collection for BoConcept; a collection that expresses sensual minimalism: 'You concentrate on the matter of the object and through this, it becomes relatively minimal. But at the same time, there should be a sense of humanity. Something soft that touches you and makes you feel at ease.'

A red sofa. No thank you! was my reaction when Gadiel suggested it during his visit to my apartment. I prefer the minimalist style, and a big red sofa was not what I had in mind for my apartment. Gadiel did 3D drawings of the sofa and the entire room which made me change my mind. I could see that the colour and shape would add a characteristic dimension to the minimalist dcor. My chair by the window is my favourite place to relax. I can enjoy the views and read a book. The rug, table and lamp has turned this little spot into a cosy corner by the tall windows.

INITIATIVE 6: FUNDACIN FORMEMOS, COLOMBIA

Our stores around the world support a number of local organisations which are working to make life better for the less fortunate. One of these local initiatives is to the support the Fundacin Formemos in Colombia. During the last 5 years, our 5 stores in Colombia and Panama have raised more than USD $100,000 for the foundation, which helps children who are victims of violence. INITIATIVE 8: MAKING A HOME

Our business is furnishing homes. But some are not fortunate enough to have a home. We have a policy that encourages our stores and warehouses to donate ex-display and discontinued furniture or pieces with minor faults to organisations that help the homeless. We have, for example, donated mattresses to help organisations in Germany and USA. And, in Denmark we have donated furniture to a nationwide youth organisation that helps children and young people who do not have a home of their own. INITIATIVE 10: THE BOCONCEPT CATALOGUE

The BoConcept catalogue has been printed by Evers Druck in Germany who works actively to reduce the environmental impact of their print products. Evers Druck has been recognised as the most environmentally friendly print company in Germany in 2009 and 2011. In 2010, we also moved from 196 pages to 164 pages. This has effectively reduced paper consumption and transportation needs, thereby cutting CO2 emissions by 16%.
INITIATIVE 13: GLOBAL COMPACT

BoConcept supports the UN Global Compact, which is a strategic policy initiative for businesses that are committed to aligning their operations and strategies with ten universally accepted principles in the areas of human rights, labour, environment and anti-corruption. INITIATIVE 16: RECYCLED MDF AND FURNITURE BOARD

We constantly find ways to make more out of less. That is also why we have chosen to mainly use MDF and furniture board instead of solid wood in our production. They are made from wood waste in the form of sawdust, reclaimed wood or small wood pieces. A choice that effectively cuts down the need for raw materials.
INITIATIVE 21: LESS TRANSPORT

We have regional distribution centres in Europe, USA and now in Asia to reduce the distance that our products have to travel to reach our customers. In April 2010, we opened our Asian Distribution Centre to cut down on the transportation distance for this region, resulting in a 15% reduction in transportation and CO2 emissions in Asia.
INITIATIVE 26: BETTER INDOOR ENVIRONMENT

A good indoor environment is important for your health and well-being. It is not only the ventilaton and construction materials, but also the things you have inside, that influence the indoor environment of your home. The Indoor Climate Label has been developed in order to help consumers make qualified decisions when it comes to choosing products that contribute to a healthy indoors. Delivery time
As most of our collection is customised for you, we do not have a wide range in stock. Our normal delivery time for board furniture is 34 weeks and 67 weeks for upholstery. If the item is in stock, feel free to pick up the furniture at our warehouse right away.

We carefully inspect every piece and we recommend you to do the same upon receipt of your furniture. If you are dissatisfied with your purchase, you are naturally entitled to return your purchase as long as it is unused and undamaged. We ask you to return the product in its orginal packaging. Furniture textiles
Protect fabric from direct sunlight to prevent colour fading Ordinary cleaning: Vacuum frequently and use the BoConcept Textile Cleaner for general cleaning Treat your fabrics with the BoConcept Textile Protection to prevent stains and dirt from penetrating the textile fibres before use. When the fabric needs to be cleaned use the BoConcept Textile Cleaner and then BoConcept Textile Protection to maintain the fabric Remove stains by using the BoConcept Spot Remover Kit and again use the BoConcept Textile Protection
Wood and veneer

Wood and veneer are affected by light. For the first 68 weeks, when the item is first absorbing the surrounding light, keep the surfaces clear of any objects to avoid permanent marks and circles. At first, new furniture will also need time to absorb light before it will match the tone of your existing furniture Water is only to be used in small doses and only in the form of a damp cloth. After wiping, always use a dry cloth Wood and veneer are very sensitive to liquids. Wipe up spilled liquids immediately
Leather
Protect leather from direct sunlight and sources of heat to prevent colour fading For general cleaning use a dry soft cloth only If necessary, wipe or lightly rub the whole surface with a clean, soft cloth wrung in soapy water If vacuum cleaning, use a soft brush nozzle to avoid scratching the surface Use the BoConcept Leather Protector before you start using your new piece of furniture. We have chosen to work with only a few suppliers that share our commitment to high quality. This way we are in control of the entire production process ensuring the highest quality every step of the way. We believe that good quality is not achieved through random, but through consistent and dedicated work. A comprehensive quality-control programme based on the ISO 9000 standard and our own production experience has been implemented with all our suppliers. We have our own quality control engineers always working on site with our suppliers. They ensure that our detailed guidelines are followed all the way through the production process and make sure that the final products are checked before leaving the factory. All our furniture is made from high-quality components and based on our passionate regard for functional and affordable design. To achieve this, we work on finding the right balance between carefully selected materials, beautiful design and deliberate simplicity.
Metal parts
The majority of our metal parts are made from the highest quality metal, keeping any impurities to the lowest level. Our chromed metal parts are treated with two layers of nickel underneath the chrome. It leaves a very smooth surface with minimum risk of rust. Other metal parts are powder coated. This gives a tougher surface than when using conventional paint. Powder coating is also an eco-friendly surface treatment as the lacquer does not contain any solvents and excess paint can be re-used.
All leathers and fabrics will stretch during use. To achieve the best comfort, covers cannot fit too tightly. Therefore, some creasing may occur, but this adds character to the sofa or chair. All our furniture fabrics and leathers are tested at internationally recognised and accredited institutions. We have different leather types that you can choose from. The surface structure of the leather is different depending on which part of the animal the leather is taken from. At BoConcept, we use top grain leather from both cow and buffalo hides. Each hide is unique with its own hallmarks. These hallmarks will be more or less visible depending on the finishing process that transforms the raw hide into furniture leather.
Upholstered furniture
We are dedicated to ensuring that every single piece of our upholstery provides you with perfect sitting comfort. That's why we primarily use high resilient (HR) foam in our seat cushions. HR foam is very structurally stable, ensuring optimum comfort and a long lifetime. The back cushions have channels inside them to keep the filling material in place, but we always recommend that you shake your cushions regularly to ensure form stability. With time and use, foam and cushion filling will stabilise so your sofa or chair will feel smooth and comfortable. The selection and application of hardwearing materials, which contribute to the lifetime of our products, is a key criterion for us as is the widespread use of solid wood where strength and stability are required. Our products are upholstered with high quality foam that ensures both soft and rounded edges and corners, and means that our fabrics and leathers wear less and last longer.
We use leathers from three gradings:

- corrected leather that has been treated to provide a more uniform appearance. The surface has a fine structure and the feel is nice and soft. It is easy to clean and maintain - semi-aniline treated leather has been corrected slightly leaving a large part of the natural grain intact and most hallmarks visible. It has an exclusive feel and provides maximum sitting comfort. Through use, semi-aniline treated leather will receive a beautiful patina that gives character to the product. This type of leather requires a little bit more maintenance than corrected leather - aniline leather is the most exclusive leather at BoConcept. The grain appears untouched and any hallmarks will be visible. The natural softness of the leather is preserved to ensure exceptional seating comfort. Over the years, aniline leather will become more beautiful and add character to the sofa or chair. This leather requires maintenance before use as well as during use to protect it from sunlight and spills. We recommend that you always use BoConcept care products for your leather and fabric pieces. Wood furniture
You will find veneer surfaces on most of our board furniture, such as wall systems, tables and bed frames. Veneer is just like wood a natural material and variations in the grain must be expected. This is what makes each piece of wood furniture unique. The majority of our wooden parts are UV-lacquered 34 times to ensure a very durable surface. Our surfaces are tested continuously to ensure that the resistance to scratches and liquid spills, and the colour fastness meet our standards for normal, everyday use.
Leathers and fabrics

We carefully select our leather and fabrics based on the design and function of the individual products they are to be used for. We guarantee no colour difference between different pieces of furniture when commissioned as one order. Our only requirement is that all the pieces of furniture are ordered at the same time.
Glass
Most of our glass table tops are made of tempered glass for the safety of our customers. We apply a heat treatment to our coloured glass plates where the colour pigment is burned into the glass. This ensures that the colour is resistant to scratches. All edges are finished to the highest standard.
