* - List of common configurations for advanced users. return to top1) What is cloud computing? Cloud computing is internet-based computing, whereby "instances", computing envi ronments that have the full functionality of a normal hardware and software stac , are controlled over the internet. These instances loo and operate as traditi onal computing systems, however resources are out-sourced. This allows for compu ting resources to be scaled, adding or resizing, on demand. With the ability to scale on demand computing resources are purchased as they are consumed. 2) What are cloud services?return to top Cloud services give users the ability to ta e advantage of IT resources over the internet instead of having them on board, or attached to them from storage syst ems, to physical and virtual servers, and applications. These services can wor in conjunction with one another to create robust computing solutions which requi re nothing more than a single computer with internet access. 3) What are the benefits of cloud computing?return to top There are many benefits of using cloud-computing solutions, including: power of renting computing resources, which helps users avoid the costs of ownin g, maintaing, and upgrading their own hardware and software. This is particularl y good in situations that require higher levels of computing resources because i t reduces the overhead, lowers the ris of technology investment, and gives the user access to a larger selection of tools and technologies. Provides the disaster recovery and bac up benefits of goegraphically distributin g computing resources and data. Offers the ability for users to access resources regardless of geographic locati on, operating system, or device. Cloud computing allows for resources to be added on demand so that companies or individuals can scale their "instances" based on their needs vs. budget Allows f or increased data security and integrity by centralizing storage and offering hi gh-level security solutions at lower costs. 4) When should I use a Gigenetcloud Cloud Server rather than a Dedicated Server? return to top Gigenet offers dedicated servers that are easy to access, remotely manage, and c ontrol. Although Gigenet has the ability to deploy such servers cloud-based solu tions can be deployed much quic er, and offer scalability that is ideal for comp anies or individuals that don't have "regular" computing needs, as resources are purchased as they are used. Cloud-computing solutions can be a better option, b oth cost wise and performance wise, than dedicated servers depending on the need s of the user. 5) When should I use a Dedicated Server rather than a Gigenetcloud Cloud Server? return to top

While Cloud Servers are ideal for a wide array of situations there are times tha t Dedicated Servers are a better fit. Such times are databases and applications that have consistent performance and demand can benefit more from running on a d edicated server than on a Cloud Server. Other applications require very specific hardware, in which case a Dedicated Server is a better option. 6) What is Gigenetcloud?return to top Gigenetcloud is Gigenet.s cloud product that provides Virtual Machines (Cloud Se rvers) in a Cloud environment. Cloud Servers are automatically provisioned with enterprise-grade and open source operating systems, delivered MUCH faster than o ur competitors equivalant product. Gigenetcloud Cloud Servers are available with or without the purchase of an y other Gigenet products or services. 11) How much CPU do I get?return to top Cloud Server host machines have dual quad core processors. Each Cloud Server is assigned four virtual cores and the amount of CPU cycles allocated to these core s is weighted based on the size of the Cloud Server. For example a 8GB Cloud Ser ver will have twice the weight of a 4GB Cloud Server. In addition to these guara nteed minimum CPU cycles all Cloud Servers are capable of CPU bursting which all ows them to utilize excess CPU cycles that are available on the host machine. 12) Are Gigenetcloud Cloud Servers behind a Firewall?return to top No. Gigenetcloud does not bloc traffic. Instead of bloc ing the traffic we have 10Gbps connections throughout the whole networ down to every node. We do have a product called ProxyShield that protects websites that are prone to attac whi ch clean the traffic before it even gets to the Cloud Server. The following is an explanation of each: CPU: CPU means that you will get more CPU with your selection of RAM and Storage . This is used for applications that requires more processing power than it does Memory. Memory: This option gives you more memory when you are selecting how much storag e space you need. This is for applications that require more RAM to run than it does Storage or CPU. Balanced: This is the default option which will give you a balanced selection be tween Memory and CPU while selecting your pac age. 29) Whats the difference between Hourly, Monthly, Quarterly, Bi-Annually and Ann ually Billing?return to top When you pay Hourly you will be paying 8 credits ($0.08) per GB inbound and 15 c redits ($0.15) per GB outbound because Hourly is only for people who don't plan on having a VM for more than a certain amount of time. The other options come wi th discounts and included bandwidth which is recommended for anyone that is goin g to be using this VM long term. The discount schedule and included bandwidth de pends on the amount of resources that you reserve and can be seen clearly upon o rdering. The longer you prepay the more you save. The more resources you pay for the more bandwidth will be included in your monthly plan. 30) When should I choose Hourly Billing and Monthly Billing?return to top You will only want to be billed hourly if you can't afford to ma e the monthly p ayments all at once and would rather "pay as you go" or if you don't intend on h aving the VM for any prolonged period of time. 31) Is there a difference in price between LA and Chicago?return to top No. Both locations are billed exactly the same.
