SCHIZOPHRENIA SOCIETY OF ONTARIO YOUTH FACILITATOR

The Schizophrenia Society of Ontario (SSO), a dynamic organization with regional offices across the province is seeking an enthusiastic and motivated Youth Facilitator to moderate a focus group session for the organizations new youth and mental health engagement program Be The One. Be The One is a mental health social action initiative developed for youth, by youth, under the auspices of the Schizophrenia Society of Ontario (SSO). The program aims to bring the creativity and leadership demonstrated by todays youth into the larger mental health arena. Reporting to the Program Coordinator the Youth Facilitator will play a key role in co-facilitating one or more focus groups to an audience of 10-15 youth. The focus group session will include: -An overview of mental health -A discussion session about youth and mental health -A feedback and brainstorming session on SSO's Be The One program Position Summary The position calls for an individual who will assist SSO's Youth Program Coordinator in leading discussions with youth in a group setting and assisting with other program related duties as outlined below: Main Responsibilities -Assist with the delivery and implementation of at least one two-hour focus group session involving the facilitation of: -An introduction to the topic of mental health and its relevance to youth -Ice breaker session -Be The One Presentation and Feedback Session -Group discussion and brainstorming session -Work collaboratively with the Youth Program Coordinator/Co-facilitator to lead a thoughtful and dynamic dialogue -With the support of the Youth Program Coordinator, manage group dynamics and positively redirect contentious discussions and topics

-Assist with evaluation and reporting requirements -Assist the Youth Program Coordinator in taking notes at the session(s) and aid in the compilation of a final report -Adhere to the protocols and procedures of the session(s)

Qualifications, Skills and Abilities Demonstrated knowledge about youth and mental health Good understanding of youth culture and youth engagement Strong administrative and organizational skills Strong computer and social networking skills Strong communication, public speaking and presentation skills Ability to relate well with people of all racial and ethnic backgrounds Ability to work independently to coordinate logistics (travel to site, plan with co-facilitator, etc.). Ability to travel within and outside of the region (if necessary) Ability or willingness to assist with participant recruitment a plus Available to work a flexible schedule, including some evenings and weekends. Must be 16-24 years old to apply!

Honorarium $300.00 plus transportation coverage to and from focus group site(s).
