Introduction
This document explains the recommended procedure to upgrade from Transmission Planner 4.0/4.1 to Transmission Planner 4.2. Transmission Planner 4.2 can be upgraded from Transmission Planner 4.0 Build 59R4 and Transmission Planner 4.1 Build 32R17. If you are unsure about which version you are using, either select Help then About in NetAct Planner, or contact nearest Nokia helpdesk. Important: This document only details the process to upgrade Transmission Plans from previous releases. If you are using other modules then you must refer to the document NetAct Planner 4.2 Upgrade_Oracle 9_2_0_1.
1.1
Major differences between Transmission Planner 4.0/4.1 and Transmission Planner 4.2
Transmission Planner been completely restructured for v4.2, with the new architecture dividing the planning modules into three distinct layers:
The traffic layer this includes all of the modules providing traffic to the network. The service layers such as SDH/SONET, PDH, ATM, IP and Lightpath. The transmission layer. Report Enhancements - various updates have been made to the reports to provide more detailed and clearer information. Interswitch Interface Granularity - allows you to define the granularity at which you want to route ISW Interfaces onto the lower layers, that is, setting the granularity to 2Mbs instead of 64Kbs will greatly reduce the routing time. Network Browser the Network Browser is a new tab in the Browser Pane that allows you to browse through all Network Elements in the project, provides improved navigation and search features, and the ability to commit and restore all network elements.

Ultra-site Export (Nokia Only) export to Nokias Ultra-Site XML format. PSTN - allows you to model a PSTN network by adding PSTN nodes, interfaces and traffic. EDAP Pools - allows you to define EDAP Pools at the BTS level which will contain the EGPRS traffic on the A-bis interface.

Administrator privileges on the Database Server to enable you to upgrade the Oracle software. Administrator privileges to un-install the NetAct Planner 4.0/4.1 and install NetAct Planner 4.2 on the client PC. The NetAct Planner 4.2 software delivery CD. Oracle 9i R2 (9.2.0.1) Enterprise Edition software CD for Server installation, or Personal Edition for laptops and other cases. License dongle(s) for Transmission Planner 4.2.
1.3
Pre-upgrade Task
The following task that should be carried out prior to starting the upgrade to Transmission Planner 4.2 are given below: Create the TRP export from earlier release of Transmission Planner.

Stage 2: Upgrade NetAct Planner software and Oracle software with new database
The process and tasks for upgrading the NetAct Planner software and the Oracle software with new database are defined in the following document NetAct Planner 4.2 Upgrade_Oracle 9_2_0_1.

You can add connection types, slots, ports and cards. You can delete connection types on equipment, providing that nodes using the equipment are not already connected to any layers (in any project). Provided that its equipment is not connected in any layer, you can modify a template in the Equipment view window for a module. You can delete cards from the list of possible cards available for a slot, providing the card is not in use on that slot on any node (in any project). In the Equipment view of the Transmission module, you can modify the configuration of a node, providing that the connection types can be supported in the new configuration.
Note Nokia will provide a generic Equipment file containing the equipment required to import the Transmission Planner TRP file from previous releases. Nokia Equipment file can be found on delivery CD: <D:\DemoDB\Transmission Plan and uipment\NokiaEquipment.csv. The process and tasks for creating Equipment is defined in the application note NetAct Planner Equipment Editor.

transmission plan files. To do this: 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. Ensure that the Equipment Browser is open. From the Project menu, click Import from TRP file. In the dialog box that appears, from the File menu, click Open. Browse to the location of the required *.trp file, select it and then click Open. In the dialog box that appears, check that the file name is correct, and select whether or not to use the default configuration files. Click Continue. The network planning data is converted, ready for import into Transmission Planner, and if there are any problems, these are displayed in a text file.
Note Instead of loading them directly into your plan, you can create a text file that uses comma-separated values. To do this, in the TRP Converter from the File menu, ensure that Output to CSV files is selected.
