Miquel OliverDirector
Graduated in 1994 in Telecommunications Engineering from the Universitat Politcnica de Catalunya, and obtained a PhD from the same University in 1999. He has a degree in Business Administration (2009) and is currently Associate Professor of Technology at the Pompeu Fabra University (UPF). He is the leader of the Networking Technologies and Strategies (NeTS) research group at the UPF. He completed a postdoctoral stay at the Wireless Information Networks Laboratory (WINLAB) at Rutgers University (N.J., USA). His fields of specialisation are wireless technologies, Internet technologies and related business models and their social impact. He has been involved in several research projects regarding wireless access networks and neutrality in his ongoing research. The ICT impact upon society as well as business models for incoming technologies and networks has been also researched during the last years. Dr. Oliver has had more than 40 papers in journals and international conferences, two patents and has been the director of several PhD theses since 2007. He has developed an intense professional activity for more than 30 years in IT and Telecommunications companies. He held several executive positions at Data General. He has been BT Telecommunications Commercial Director, Sales and Marketing Director in Retevisin, and CEO in Tempos 21. Currently, he is Director in Catalonia of the Asociacin Multisectorial de Empresas de Electrnica, Tecnologas de la Informacin, Telecomunicaciones y Contenidos Digitales - AMETIC. He is an Associate Professor in the Dept. of Telematics Engineering, UPC and Coordinator of the Master in Strategic Management of ICT at the UPF. Carles Martin BadellCo-director Telecommunications Engineering UPC. Carles Martin Badell (Telecommunications Engineering Degree from Universitat Politcnica de Catalunya) is currently working in the field of study and research of the Audiovisual Council of Catalonia. He exercised the General Secretariat of IQUA, the Internet Quality Agency (2002-07). He was the first Dean of the Telecommunications Engineering Professional Association (Collegi d'Enginyers of Telecommunications of Catalonia) in the period 2000-03, and Secretary of the Information Society of the Departament d'Universitats, Recerca i Societat de la Informaci of the Generalitat de Catalunya (2000-02). In 2002 he joined the UPF as an Associate Professor. Carles Martin is President of the Catalan Association of Telecommunications Engineers and Secretary of the Spanish Association of Telecommunications Engineers. Carles Martin has developed a career in the field of private companies covering several computer industries, creating a set of companies developing software applications and implementation of telecommunications infrastructure projects. Helena Ramalhinho LourenoCo-director Helena Loureno Ramalhinho has a Masters in Statistics and Operations Research from the University of Lisbon, Portugal, and a PhD in Operations Research from Cornell University, Ithaca NY, USA. She is currently an Associate Professor at the Economics and Business Department at the Pompeu Fabra University, Barcelona, Spain. She has participated in several research projects and consulting for public and private companies in the telecommunications, healthcare, transportation, logistics and production. She has published several articles in prestigious international scientific journals and has presented several papers at international congresses and conferences. Helena teaches at various, undergraduate, masters and postgraduate courses in Spain and Portugal. She is currently a researcher at the Business Analytics Research Center at the Pompeu Fabra University, at the Economics Healthcare Research Centre at the Pompeu Fabra University, and also at the Centre for Operational Research at the University of Lisbon. Her research interest are on Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Production and Operations Management, Operations Research, Scheduling, Combinatorial Optimization, Metaheuristics and Heuristic Search Optimization. She has been the director of six completed PhD Thesis.
