ADVERTISERS ANNOUNCEMENT PUBLIC NOTICE ON TESHIE THE CHIEFTAINCY ISSUE On July 6, 2012, one King Odaifio Welentsi III,

Paramount Chief of Nungua issued a document purported to be a judgement in favour of four persons as Kingmakers in Teshie. The purported judgement ordered the so-called Kingmakers to install the Paramount Chief of Teshie within six months or have their mandate revoked. Contrary to Teshie Customary Laws and Usage, three out of the number who were said to be in acting positions carried Stool names. The said King Odaifio Welentsi III subsequently granted press interviews to a cross-section of the print and electronic media alleging that the Greater Accra Regional Minister has given him Power of Attorney to adjudicate and determine the long standing Teshie Chieftaincy Dispute. This spurious political twist to the purported judgment has generated a lot of tension and anxiety within the Teshie Township. We therefore owe it both as a duty and a responsibility to our people to issue this statement to set the records straight as follows: 1. The Teshie Stool has a fully-fledged paramountcy status and is not subservient to the Nungua Stool. Therefore, the Nungua Mantse has no locus, power or authority under the Chieftaincy Act 2008 (Act 759) to sit in judgement over any matter affecting Teshie Paramountcy. 2. By letter with Reference No. NTC/IN/12/02 dated 23rd May, 2012 and issued on the letterhead of the Ministry of Chieftaincy and Culture, King Odaifio Welentse III invited the substantive Teshie Dzasetse and three (3) of his Principal Elders for a closed-door meeting without stating an Agenda for the said Meeting. Out of respect for the National Coat of Arms on the letter of invitation the Dzasetse and his Elders honoured the invitation during which very highly confidential matters were discussed without prejudice. King Odaifio Welentsi III did not make any disclosure during the discussions that the Greater Accra Regional Minister had given him Power of Attorney to constitute himself into a one-man Judicial Committee to determine the rightful Kingmakers of Teshie.

3. Apart from a duly constituted Judicial Committee of the Greater Accra Regional House of Chiefs, no other body is clothed with the power or authority to meddle in any matter affecting Chieftaincy at the Traditional Council Level within the Region. Therefore the said Power of Attorney allegedly conferred on the Nungua Mantse by the Greater Accra Regional Minister over the Teshie Chieftaincy Dispute has no basis at law and equity and should be treated with a pinch of salt. 4. Be that as it may, the purported judgement by King Odaifio Welentsi III in respect of the so-called Kingmakers of Teshie should be dismissed as a worthless propaganda intended to derail the on-going customary processes for the installation of next Teshie Mantse by the substantive office holders. 5. In the mean time, we wish to assure the good people of Teshie that plans are far advanced for the peaceful installation of the next Teshie Mantse very soon.
