STATISTICS
Scrap Metal Need is Growing!! Our Industry will not slow down. The current outlook is: China wants to increase its scrap consumption to reduce reliance on higher energy consuming iron ore for steel production. China uses 130kg of scrap per tonne of steel produced. By 2020, assuming steel production grows to 950 Mtpa China will need 115 Mt of scrap. If China achieved the same scrap intensity as the US (421 kg/t) and Europe (519 kg/t) then China would need 400 Mt of scrap by 2020! Basically they need a lot of metal!

Big 3 Hunting Competition

The Big 3 is a land based fishing and hunting competition held in Kawerau for serious hunters, children and their families. This year we sponsored the event and assisted with running the day. Those are fish hanging from the side of the truck, not rabbits!

Focus on a Non-Metal Supplier

Over the past few years I have had the pleasure of working with Macaulay Metals Ltd staff in the Bay of Plenty region. Whilst working in conjunction with the local Managers there is a purpose to ensure that all the staff are trained to operate the required machinery in order for the operation to grow. In many cases the management has arranged for inexperienced staff to work along side senior staff members prior to me coming on site to train and assess. I have also been involved with Pre Employment assessments, Basic Hi Ab training, Driver Licensing covering Classes 2, 4, and 5, along with any driver licence endorsements that are required (Wheels, Tracks, or Dangerous Goods). A large majority of the training is done on site, this helps with staff being familiar with the surroundings, which seems to alleviate undue pressure by being in an unfamiliar environment. Being a person outside the (so called square of) the Macaulay Metals Ltd Group within the Bay of Plenty it appears to be one big extended family and as I have had the pleasure to work with many, if not all staff in this region one time or another and there has always been a very positive vibe. I would like to Thank all the staff staff for all their support, and trust the working relationship will continue well into the future. Written by Gary Thrupp, Masterdrive, Bay of Plenty.

FIRST BOY RACER CAR CRUSHED!

Police Minister Anne Tolley used a remote control to crush the first Boy Racer car under the Vehicle Confiscation and Seizure Bill 2008 at our Seaview Yard. The crushed car was auctioned on Trade Me with all proceeds ($818) going to YouthLine. The Youthline CEO Stephen Bell commented Thank you for all your work making this happen, and thank you to the Macaulays Team. The crushed car auction was won by the Museum of Transport and Technology (MOTAT) in Auckland. They plan to put the vehicle on display and are exploring ways they might use it to help educate and inform visitors about road safety. MOTAT Exhibitions Manager, Paul Swift, explained that MOTAT collects physical objects of significance related to New Zealands transport history. We believe the crushed car and its connections to the anti-boy racer laws offer a relevant and important social commentary of the transport in todays world, Mr Swift says.

Second Hand Dealers Act - The Basics

We must keep a "dealers record" in respect to all scrap metal that we acquire. Scrap IT captures the required data so ALL transactions MUST go through Scrap It.
