I Just Cant Keep It To Myself

In my first pastorate, I knew very little about preaching and even less about how to pastor a church. After all, I was only 20 and not even majoring in Bible in those college days. As a brand new pastor, I began a program of Witnessing Training and Visitation in homes. However, Everette Carroll, a godly layman in my home church, had taken me out on Friday evenings for a number of months in his El Camino. He did not know the term discipleship Dr. Hayes Wicker or on-the-job-training, but he was passionate about the fact that witnessing was more caught than taught. I Senior Pastor listened to him share the gospel to countless hitchhikers as we cruised around Phoenix, purposely looking for those who would need a ride and would be a captive audience. In that first church, the University Baptist Church, I led a young man to Christ. In a few days, he exclaimed, I just cant keep it to myself! Like the Gerasene Demoniac, who was delivered by Jesus, he wanted to go home and tell what great things God had done for him (Mark 5:19). The compulsion of love, which Paul described in 1 Corinthians, is always a motivating desire for the Christian (2 Corinthians 5:14). How, if we love like Christ, can we not tell people how to miss Hell and make Heaven? Please come to a special dinner this Sunday evening. I will be speaking and we will hear testimonies of those who have been involved in our Outreach Evangelism program in the past. Come and kick the tires of our ministry of training, fellowshipping, and going to where the lost can be found. Learn how you can gain confidence with simple approaches and learn the essential scriptures of the gospel. Develop a strategy for talking to anyone, anywhere about the Good News. Your attendance is not necessarily a commitment, but I believe that you will catch the same zeal which I received from Everette Carroll, way back in the 60s. After all, Jesus is the same yesterday, today, and forever (Hebrews 13:8). Each of our Bible and Life Groups should be represented in our Outreach Evangelism program. I encourage you to talk to others in your class and come with a partner! People will know the truth of this scripture when we share: Christ died for all, so that we who live might no longer live for ourselves, but for Him Who died and rose again on our behalf (2 Corinthians 5:15).

James MacDonald Vertical Church Tour

James MacDonald and the Vertical Church Band are coming to Naples for a night of window-rattling, earth-shattering, life-altering worship and teaching from Gods Word. Church was never meant to be safe. Or comfortable. Or predictable. Its meant to arrest our pride. To crush our selfishness. To carry our heartache. To comfort our affliction. Church is where we find community, express compassion, and engage in mission. But, without Gods presence, church fails. So lets make the change that changes everything. Go Vertical. Lets stop making church all about us. Prepare for a serious change in direction Monday, Oct 1 at 7pm. Event is FREE but you must register at www.jamesmacdonald.com/ verticalchurchtour or call 888581-9673.
