With victory over Anderson, Carlson gridders improve to perfect 4-0

With a marquee matchup looming between Downriver League favorites Truman and Roosevelt this Friday, Carlson has quietly kept itself in the running for a league title with its fourth-straight victory. The Marauders improved to 4-0 on Friday with a 2714 win over Anderson in Southgate to remain tied atop the Downriver League standings as one of three undefeated teams. Marcus Carter rushed for 248 yards and two scores on 17 carries and scored a late back-breaking touchdown to ice the game midway through the fourth quarter. Andersons Tyler Hall found Josh Lockwood for an eight-yard touchdown pass with less than 10 minutes left in the fourth quarter to pull the Titans within one score, 21-14. Two minutes into the ensuing Carlson drive, Carter broke through the line for a 64-yard touchdown run that put the Marauders up 27-14 with 7:15 remaining. Anderson threatened, but would not score on their next possession after a tenacious Carlson pass rush forced a Titan incompletion in the red zone. We just couldnt execute on their side of the field when we got down to the red zone and we kind of shot ourselves in the foot, McLaughlin said. Weve got to be more consistent. Bailey Molnar completed a six-yard touchdown pass to Alex Rahming on a short slant with five minutes remaining in the first half to put the Marauders up 7-0 early. The Titans waited all of 13 seconds to respond as sophomore DeJohn Matthews ripped off a 62yard touchdown run on the first play of the ensuing possession to tie the game 7-7. A block in the back negated a 65-yard touchdown by Carter midway through the second quarter, but Marvin Franklin broke a number of tackles two plays later on his way to a 25-yard touchPLEASE SEE CARLSON/8-C
