FURNITURE SECTOR IS CHEERING UP THE ECONOMY


IMOB Istanbul Fair organized by Istanbul Fuarclk on January 28th February 1st with the support of MOSDER in Istanbul CNR Expo has attracted many foreign buyers. The fair was visited by 74,322 visitors including 7,103 from abroad and new designs and Turkish furniture quality was introduced to foreigners. IMOB was opened by Istanbul Deputy Governor Vedat Mftolu, TIM President Mehmet Bykeki, TOBB Furniture Sector Assembly Head Davut Doan, MOSDER President Nazif TRKOLU, CNR Holding Chairman Ceyda EREM and stanbul Fuarclk A.. PARTICIPANT NUMBERS UP BY 20 % stanbul Fuarclk Deputy General Manager Bar Can Erol said participants in the fair has increased by 20 % and MOSDER President Nazif Trkolu said Turkey is exporting furniture to 170 countries. Trkolu added, Although we are in a general economic crisis, our sector is continuing to be a source of morale for the economy with its export volume, employment power and investments. TIM President Mehmet Bykeki has emphasized that the exports to Middle East countries has increased from 7 % to 14 %. TOBB Furniture Sector Assembly Head Davut Doan urged the government to lower the VAT rates for the furniture sector to 8 %. There were visitors at the fair from Iran, India, Greece, Bulgaria, Dubai, Oman, Morocco, Lebanon, Spain, Israil and Italy. There were also participation from Germany, France, UK, Romania, Saudi Arabia, UAE, Azarbaijan, Russia and Iraq. Also, DTM has hosted purchasing groups from abroad.

Despite the crisis, the participation was very high in IMOB 09 and 300 firms has opened around 120,000 m2 of stands. DESIGNS COMPETED FIERCELY IMOB Design Competition awards were given during the fair. Only the products that are demonstrated at the fair were eligible for the competition. In the dinner room category Milano Mobilya was first, stikbal second and Nills was 3rd. In living room furniture, the first three were Saloni, Cascade and Vanessa. Dota Mobilya was first and third in youth room category and Teleset second. Cascade was first and third in bedroom category and Dota was second. In the accessories category, Zift Dizayn was first, Cascade second and Alfemo was third. Leader brands like stikbal, Bellona, Yata, Alfemo, Dota, da, pek, Mirage and Koleksiyon has shown latest novelties in the fair. Modern, classical, outworn and modular furniture, bed and bed groups, armchairs, chairs and sofas, baby and young rooms and furniture accessories were among the product groups of IMOB.
