Introduction
To be effective in the adventure of prayer you must be able to define prayer. In the last twenty years, all over the world there has been an emphasis and rebirthing of prayer. The large churches and all major moves of Gods spirit have been preceded by prayer. The places that are experiencing the explosion of Gods grace and bringing in a harvest of souls, have been traced to the prayer from mens hearts for God to be God of their family, cities and nations! Prophecies throughout scripture clearly confirm this would happen when Gods people prayed. It is happeningrevival is now! If your a child of God, nurture your desire for more. Prayer is the foundation of all God does that is permanent. Prayer is access to the greatest power man has, God Himself.

Pray the best and be assured of the best!

Gods Word, His Spirit and our experience in prayer is the foundation of any Christian activity that brings results, power and Gods presence. Without knowledge of Gods Word, our prayer life will be shallow and have little effectiveness, producing little results. God has, by His own plan and wisdom limited Himself on the earth, on the basis of the man He made in His image and redeemed by His Son. He gave the earth to man. It is mans realm of responsibility. Man has been given authority of its operation. Mans prayer unto God, in faith, is the primary means God has to exercise His authority, will and power in the earth. Jesus taught this and gave us the example of a life of prayer and blessing connected together. Jesus parables and teaching are very specific concerning the importance, power and work of prayer. The will of God and the deliverance from Satan are accomplished primarily through the foundation of prayer. Prayer is facing God (our Heavenly Father) with our needs and His Word of promise to meet those needs. Prayer is both the sense of need and the assurance that those needs will be met. Faith prayers are words in the conscious knowledge that our words are being heard by the One who made and loves us. Unbelief utters words to God with no substance of assurance (no faith) and words of duty (religious repetitions) for prayers sake. Prayers of unbelief are not Spiritual protocol is based on a relationship or assurance, but religious duty with to come BOLDLY to an impersonal uncaring, cosmic idea of an impersonal God, somewhere out in space. (James 16, Mark 11:24, and our High Priest! Matthew 21:22)

To have faith in someone you must know what they have said or their will for you. You can not have blind faith with anyone, even God. To have blind faith means trusting someone, hoping they will do something for you, but not being sure they are able or willing to do what they promised. You could not trust someone to meet your needs or pay your light bill, if they never said they would or they did not have the ability. You could hope all day that Bill Gates would pay your light bill, but even though he has the ability, you can not have faith (confidence and trust) that he would do it. He never told you that he would pay your light bill. Now if he said he would pay your light bill, then you have a word, a promise. Knowing his ability, you can tell others, with confidence, Bill Gates is going to pay my light bill. To trust or have faith in someone, you must know that persons ability and willingness to use their ability on your behalf. Knowing that person is able is not enough. Knowing God is able to meet your needs is not enough. Some people say, being ignorant of Gods promises, that God can do anything. Everybody knows that God can do anything. That is not faith. Bible faith is based on what God has said, what He has promised, and what He will do. God is not a man, that he should lie; neither the son of man, that he should repent: hath he said, and shall he not do it? or hath he spoken, and shall he not make it good? (Num 23:19) Blessed be the LORD, that hath given rest unto his people Israel, according to all that he promised: there hath not failed one word of all his good promise, which he promised by the hand of Moses his servant. (1 Ki 8:56) Then said the LORD unto me, Thou hast well seen: for I will hasten my Word to perform it. (Jer 1:12) Concerning this house which thou art in building, if thou wilt walk in my statutes, and execute my judgments, and keep all my commandments to walk in them; then will I perform my word with thee, which I spake unto David thy father: (1 Ki 6:12) Put me in remembrance: let us plead together: declare thou, that thou mayest be justified. (Isa 43:26) **What He has promised in the scriptures, He is eager to fulfill**

The sacrifice of the wicked is an abomination to the LORD: but the prayer of the upright is his delight. (Prov 15:8) To know God is able is only part of faith. To know He is willing to use His great ability on our behalf is complete faith. The corresponding action of faith is believing faith is now. Believing is an action as a result of what you say. To say God heard you in prayer and received your answer by faith, demands you act accordingly. Your first reaction should be thanksgiving and praise. After that, you should make every prayer after that relative to your answered prayer. The name of Jesus is given for the assurance your prayer has been heard. Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them. (Mark 11:24) If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him. But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed. For let not that man think that he shall receive any thing of the Lord. A double minded man is unstable in all his ways. (James 1:5-8) Again, to have faith or trust in someone, we must know what they have said. To receive what they have said, you must act and speak accordingly. To doubt Gods Word is accepting certain thoughts and followed by your actions that reflect your unbelief in Gods Word (His promise to meet your need). If your earthly Father said, we are going fishing on Saturday. If you replied, Ill believe it when I see it. That would be a slap to his honor, integrity, and love. But if you answered, Wow, thank you dad, that sounds like fun. You would go and tell others what your father said (his word). You would live out your week in anticipation for the fishing trip on Saturday. From that point, every thought throughout the week would be thinking, planning and preparing for Saturdays fishing trip, just because of your fathers word. The law of faith is that no answer is granted until all doubting, questioning, unbelieving, and worrying cease. Then let it be settled once and for all that God is not going to break His law to please some whining unbeliever who lives more in his criticism of God (willful ignorance, pride and impatience) for not answering them then in praising God for the answer. Let those who want answers from God cease from worrying about how and when God is going to carry out His part of the covenant (His Word). Permit God to run His own business,

PRAYER is supernatural communication! PRAYER releases refreshing, edification, worship and praise! PRAYER brings supernatural assistance! PRAYER keeps the kingdom of God first place in our lives! PRAYER is reading the Bible and listening to His voice! PRAYER is being Gods friend! When you start praying, the Holy Spirit will show you what you need to change and talk to the Father about. The Holy Spirit takes you from hopes and dreams to present tense confirmation of those hopes and dreams. Your level of consecration is based on your level of consciousness of the Holy Spirit inside you and His spirit of intercession. The level of God consciousness you have of the Holy Spirit will keep Jesus first and keep you in prayerful obedience. We are not beggars, but sons; not foreigners but citizens; not paupers but kings and priests; not unrighteous but those with rights! The prayer of Gods children, the righteous, in the earth, brings great power from God which would not have happened without prayer.

Only by the foundation of prayer, do we keep God first, above all, depending on Him, in everything!

Many of us struggle with resting and waiting in Gods presence. We think He has something against us or we are just too busy to pray. His loving presence around us is always there waiting and resting in and on Him and opens us up to change where we will never be the same. This involves stretching in your prayer time with militancy, refusing to leave without a consciousness of Gods kiss on your soul. Gods impartation of peace, confidence and victory will always bring us to greater victories.

Our Authority and Responsibility

Militant Prayer and Christian Victory 2 Chronicles 20 There is a battle going on! The theater of this war is us. We are the battlefield in the present world we live in. Immense forces are continually waging war for our individual souls and all who Christ died for. We declare we are Gods trophies of grace, not Satans trophies of defeat and sin. As we develop as warriors, we are to fight not only for ourselves, but also for every other victim of Satans attacks, declaring they to can be victors in Christ, delivered from Satans wiles (2 Cor. 2:11). We must be spiritual warriors, for the kingdom of Heaven is under violent attack and the violent take it by force (Matt. 11:12, Eph. 6, & 1 Tim. 6:12). Fight the good fight of faith and lay hold of eternal life. 2 Timothy 4:7 reads, I have fought a good fight. The Bible is a book of war and winning in the battles of life through God, His Word, and power. We are His representatives in the earth with our Godly authority returned to us by the Lord Jesus Christ. The world we live in is contaminated by evil. According to the Washington Bureau of Crimes and Statistics, in 1988, there was a murder every twenty-five minutes in the United States alone. One woman is raped every five minutes. Every sixty seconds, a child is abused and each year, two thousand children are murdered by their parents. Each day thousands die from bullets, bombs, gunfire and drunk drivers taking innocent lives. People lie, steal and defraud. Governments exploit and oppress. Elected officials and trusted men of statue slither away to do unspeakable things. Drugs, pornography, homosexuality, suicide and the occult prey upon our children. Nations wait, with no hope, as disease and famine kill hundreds of thousands of people. It is simply too much to take in! Some react by retreating, trying to ignore the world and think only pleasant thoughts. Many people choose to build walls of pretense around their lives to isolate them from the real world. By ignoring the death and destruction around them, they attempt to be happy and content. They surround themselves with art, worldly philosophy, and music, avoiding the bad parts of town and not listening too much to the worlds plight.

12

Faith to receive from God, requires a planting of His Word into our heart.

The opposite reaction is to lash out against evil with unreasoning fury blaming many. They embrace humanism, new age philosophies and anything that claims to combat evil in this world.

Even Christians can take action incorrectly. Many well-meaning people give money, time and efforts to improve mans situation, but ignore the spiritual way to combat evil. They are more concerned with mans condition than with Gods heart. They attend protests, organize boycotts, or launch educational efforts, but spend little or no time in prayer, spiritual warfare, or evangelism. There is a middle ground between these two extremes. We dont have to retreat from pain, nor flail about in frantic activity. We can come to a place where we are not overwhelmed by the realities of the planet on which we live. We can be aware of the sin in the world and do something truly effective to stop it. We can know that God has us here to develop into spiritual warriors for the advancement of the Kingdom of God. The foundation for mature Christianity begins by knowing what God has done for you, and knowing who you are in Christ. Just knowing is not enough, our maturity continues as we accept our responsibilities to advance the Kingdom of God. We are here to fight, and the sooner we learn this, the sooner we move toward mature Christianity. Its not just what God has done for us, but what we do through God as warriors. As intercessors, our job is to stand between the devil and the people for whom we are interceding. This hinders what Satan would otherwise be able to do on the earth. We in turn, abort his attacks, foil his schemes, and diminish his effectiveness.

Growing in prayer requires being separated, quiet and alone, waiting and expecting.

This is why the devil spends so much energy trying to keep us preoccupied with ourselves. The powers of darkness would have us so focused on our own problems that we dont intercede for others. Satan would have us bound by fear, depression, lust and materialism. He probably doesnt even mind us praying, as long as it is self-centered. But at all cost, he wants to prevent us from interceding and obstructing his work in the world. We must see the threat we are to him as intercessors and recognize our significance in the earth as agents of God. When we stand between the devil and the object of our intercession, we have to actively resist the powers of darkness. An example of intercession for an individual might be:

Father, we come before you in the name of Jesus Christ and ask you to bring conviction upon this person and to lead him to repentance in his life. Satan, we come against you in the name of Jesus Christ, and we cut off your influence in the life of this person in the areas of The actual words we use are not as important as actually doing it. We need to understand what we are doing in the spiritual realm and stand against Satan in the name of Jesus, forbidding him to act. The whole world, Christians included, see terrible things going on and question, Why isnt God doing something about all this? Where is He? The Praying scripturally, knowing Bible tells us that God is asking questions of who we are can make mountains His own. He sees the evil and is astonished move and enemies fall, nations that there is no one interceding. He asks, Where are the Christians? How can they be shake and nations rise. doing nothing? Why is God looking for a man? Why is He amazed when there are no intercessors? He knows the significance of intercession and the role of man on the earth. God has established certain irrevocable principles in the universe. He will move in the affairs of mankind according to the degree and how specifically we pray. This is why God is looking for a man to intercede. This is why He is amazed when none can be found. God has all power. He has the love and is fully willing to bring change into the world. But He stands astonished, even shocked, when we dont pray. God is crying out to His people: I want to move. I want to bless. I want to save. I want to protect, provide and stop injustice. Why wont you intercede? We must know without a doubt that prayer changes things. It makes a difference unlike anything else we can do. Prayer changes things because God answers prayer. When we pray, God moves. God knows what He wants to do in the earth and in the lives of people around us. This is why God reveals His will to us and is specific when He does so. He wants us to pray according to His will. God even tells us what to pray. We wait on God; He speaks to us; we pray according to His will; and then He moves into action. God is limited and unable to do anything without mans prayers. God can do whatever He wants. He is sovereign. He is not bound by man. However, it seems that God has chosen to include man in the responsibility and authority of this planet. God has chosen to move in the affairs of man to the degree that we must pray. God will not eliminate the

14

middleman. There are certain areas in which God will not move unless we pray and He is astonished when we dont. Why dont we pray more? I believe it is because we are not convinced that our prayers really make a difference. When we do pray, we far too often repeat words and sounds weve heard from others. We need to pray with firm conviction that our prayers will make a difference. If we are determined, Gods will empowers us, opens doors and releases His direction. As a church, we must be determined to be His hands, His feet and His light!

Learning to Pray
If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him. ~ James 1:5 We must put ourselves before the Lord and continue to petition Him. He knows our faults, He knows our failings, He knows our shortcomings, even more than we do. If any of you is deficient in wisdom, let Him ask of the giving God who gives to everyone without reproaching or faultfinding and it will be given him. (AMP) ~ James 1:5 Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, ~ Hebrews 4:16 Dont feel like you must do everything just right. Dont feel that you must have everything in perfect order before you can receive from the Lord. Abide in a realm of grace. Have a dependency upon the Lord and a grace depending upon His personality, His love, His goodness, and His mercy toward us. The word upbraideth is a word that the Amplified Translation tries to expand on, and means, let him ask of God who wont find fault to hinder him. He wont find fault in your life that will hinder Him from giving you what you need. Go to Him and say, God, I need your help, I need your direction, I need your understanding! We have a Heavenly Father who is so eager to help us. He has dealt with the sin problem. Your iniquities have separated between you and your God, and your sins have hid His face from you, that he will not hear (Isaiah 59:2). You better get the judgmentalism, criticism, faultfinding, and jealousy out of your life so that God can do more in your life.
15

Run to Him and ask Him for the help that you need, knowing that He is eager to give you the help you need. You must remove those things in your life so that you can come back into that union, love, desire, hunger and yearning for Him because He is a Heavenly Father, not a big cosmic God just out there somewhere, floating through the universe. Get rid of the religious picture that God is not interested in you. Hes our Heavenly Father who is uniquely concerned about every area of your life, longing and desiring to meet the needs of your life and to help you along the path that He has for you. Get back into a place of uprightness, strength and goodness before the God who wants to bless you, increase you and teach you, give you life and not destroy you. If He wanted to find fault to destroy you, Hed wait for you to make another mistake and hit you with a lightning bolt; and, all of us would have been dead a long time ago. The devil likes to tell you thats just what Gods doing. Hes not looking to snuff you out. He says, Ive come that you might have life and that more abundantly! He wants to get you into His Word, so that He can discipline us, help us, and instruct us. You can resist Him and oppose Him, you can close your door and live your own separate life. This is a life of independence and separatism from the body of Christ, from the correction of the Lord, and from the adjustment of the Lord. Youve got to lay yourself before the Lord and say, Father, here I am. I need Your help. God is starting to develop in our lives the most joyful activity we will have and the simplest yet most complex activity. Prayer! Its about learning how to pray and receiving our own needs met from the Lord. Learn how to pray and fellowship with the Lord! The simplest child of God can pray and find depth, interaction and fellowship with his Heavenly Father. The most mature saint of God who has learned how to reign in their authority, can soar and develop the fruit of the spirit in their life and learn how to live and walk the spiritfilled life. The Christian who has matured to that place will still find prayer the most challenging and joyful aspect of their walk in the Kingdom of God. And in that day ye shall ask me nothing. Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whatsoever ye shall ask the Father in my name, he will give it you. ~ John 16:23 Hitherto have ye asked nothing in my name: ask, and ye shall receive, that your joy may be full. ~ John 16:24 The term verily, verily was said when a person stood before the people and lifted his hands. It literally means, solemnly before God I say to you! I say unto you, whatever you ask the Father in my name, He will give it to you. We come to our Heavenly Father and we get to ask him, not on our own, but on the merits, dedication, commitment, and life that Jesus lived for us.

There are conditions in the Word of God, but God has a way to meet you. Dont get so caught up in the conditions that you miss the heart of the Father. Listen, ask, believe, receive, be thankful and possess! There are many things you dont have in your life because as it says in the book of James, You have not because you ask not. It continues saying, Youre asking to consume it upon your own lust and things of this age and those things dont satisfy anyway. We have certain assignments, tasks and portions of Gods work that God assigns to various people and churches within a city. Prayer is labor and its work; but, its the greatest joy you will have. You will touch the heart of God. You will see your prayers open doors, bring down strongholds and touch peoples lives. Satan does not want a church to get this revelation. Satan doesnt want you to get the revelation that your Heavenly Father is eager and Hes waiting. We say were waiting for heaven. No, heaven is waiting for us. Weve been given the authority in this earth. It says throughout scripture that when the church prayed it prevailed. It says when the body of Christ started to cry unto God, then God released His power and moved by His spirit. for he hath given you the former rain moderately, and he will cause to come down for you the rain, the former rain, and the latter rain ~ Joel 2:23 He was talking about the day of Pentecost and the latter days that were in now! Pray and ask the Lord, rain, in the times of the latter rain. In the book of Leviticus 26:1-2, he says, If you obey my commandments, I will send my rain in its season. Rain is a type of the Holy Spirit, but its all in relationship to our prayer. Are we satisfied and content just to get by, just to touch the presence of God in a service, or do we want to see results of prayer? We are a watchman church and one of our assignments is to be the prayer protection of this city. The watchmen are the ones who are on the wall. The words watchman, prayer and intercessors are all connected together. Spiritual watchmen are the intercessors praying over the body of Christ. Any great and strong church in America has Christian warriors and intercessors who are on their knees breaking down barriers and strongholds of demonic powers that are hindering and stopping the move of Gods Spirit in the families, homes and lives of the people in their church and community, stopping the murderous spirits, the abusive spirits, the drug spirits and breaking the power, of pornography spirits. Prayer will break their

power, coming against them, bringing salt and light into the darkness. There is a militant evangelistic spirit thats coming forth in our church, again in a very wonderful and powerful way. God has sent us some evangelists, and we believe there are teachers who need to come forth and start studying the Word. We need you to help me teach. We need you to help us minister the Word of God in all different areas and ways. Reasons Why Every Christians Prayer Life Must Progressively Grow and Increase: 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. 8. 9. Jesus left us an example of the value and importance of prayer (Matthew 14:23; Mark 1:35;
Luke 6:12, 5:16, 9:18; John 17).

The apostles left us an example of prayer and intercession (Acts 1:14; 2:42; 4:31; 6:4; 12:5
13:3; 16:3; 21:5).

Prayer keeps us spiritually fit and alert. Spiritual watchfulness is only accomplished through prayer (Matthew 26:41; Luke 21:34-36; Jude 30). Prayer is one of Gods means for receiving joy (John 16:23-24; Acts 16:25; James 1). Prayer enables us to receive wisdom and the mind of God (Luke 6:12-13; Acts 1:24; 10:9; 13:3; 14:23; James 1:5). Prayer transforms us into the image of Christ (Luke 9:28-29). Prayer moves the hand of God, to work in the affairs of men (Exodus 3:7, 14:10-11, 10:15; Acts 12:5; James 5:7). Prayer expresses our dependence upon God (Zechariah 4:6; John 15:5). Through the prayer of committal, we find freedom from worry (Zechariah 4:6, Philippians 4:6-7; I Peter 5:7-8).

10. Prayer unleashes the power and blessing of God (2 Chronicles 6:7; Acts 1-2). 11. Prayer is the means to know Jesus intimately (Colossians 1:9; Philippians 3:10; Jude 20-21). 12. Prayer is the basic means God uses to meet our needs, spiritually and physically (Matthew 7:7; John 14:13-14; 15:7; 16:23-24).

Reasons Why People Do Not Pray: They think that their prayers dont make any difference or that they have stepped-out and prayed inaccurately, unscriptural or impatiently. They have received no results or answers for their previous prayers and have become discouraged in their prayer life. Not realizing the power of prayer and its effect through them in their personal walk with God. Satan tries to belittle us and lie to us and make us think and believe our prayers are insufficient. Understanding Gods view of prayer will lift the believer, inviting him to pray with boldness, as a son or daughter. Lukewarmness, sin and indifference to their spiritual position and responsibility. Not realizing prayer has a place in Gods program (Elijah prayed and it stopped raining for three and a half years). Take God at His Word and pray! Prayer works miracles. Satanic opposition keeps us from praying and must be resisted. Jesus said, If you believe, you will see the glory of God. **Prayer brings the influence and presence of God**

2. Believe that you receive (Mark 11:24).

3. When you stand praying, forgive (Mark 11:25).

4. Depend on the Holy Spirit to help in prayer (Rom. 8:26; I Cor. 14:14).

Forms and Variety of Prayer

Understanding the scriptural picture and definition of Prayer

See prayer as God sees it!

Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints; ~ Eph 6:18

It is a foolish mistake when we lump the various kinds of prayers all together, though different kinds of prayers may sometimes blend together. For example, asking in faith for a personal need may go right into praise and thanksgiving with a spirit of intercession, praying for someone else, back to a prayer for repentance seeing something you need to judge yourself on and asking God to forgive, change and help you. The prayer orchestra continues by thanksgiving, praise and intimacy with loving our Heavenly Father. We petition Him with fervency concerning a specific area of need He has put on your heart. Forms of Prayer (the art, practice, and experience of Gods presence through Bible believing prayer) We are a prophetic people, meaning a people who move in Gods voice, obtain what God has said we can, who have a right to hear His creative voice, individually and corporately.

1. Casual prayer ~ waking up and saying, good morning Lord. Living in a prayerful spirit, moment by moment, abiding in total dependence on the presence of the Lord. You discuss everything with Him, listening to Him, praising Him, thanking Him, enjoying Him, and being instant in prayer. This is praying without ceasing (I Thes. 5:17). 2. Intimate and passionate prayer ~ times when our focus is not broken by distraction. Our love for Jesus opens us up for the spirit of prophecy, words from Gods heart that flow to us from within us. These are times we have set aside or with a special anointing to enter in. These are focused times with the Lord, times when an intense anointing births in us new, fresh, and creative ideas. Our interaction with the Lord during times are for personal growth and development and intercession for our fellow believers, Godly leadership, cities, and families. We are to intercede whenever we can, but these intimate times are a result of our drawing near to the Lord seeing we are His reward. His presence engulfs us, and the spirit of faith and the spirit of wisdom flow in an explosive way. Stay, linger, listen and especially write down what you have had the Lord talk to you about. Be careful who you share these with and protect Gods secrets that are germinating in your heart. Some teachers call this kind of prayer, contemplative prayer! These intimate times will birth intercession upon intercession and you must not pull back. In intimate times of intercession, you will sometimes go to a place of prayer you have never been before. Stretch yourselves spiritually in these times of prayer. These intimate times with the Lord are unclothed times with our lover Jesus. These times must be treasured and the protocol respected. This involves emptying our hearts out in sincere dependence to God. He will meet us and change us in ways that are eternal. Time of pouring our heart out to God, praying in the spirit, focusing and hungering for God alone will release a prophetic spirit (Gods voice, revelation and faith). This will break temporal attachments, bringing us to a real sense of the simplicity of Gods love and our relationship with Him. 3. Formal prayer ~ with a consciousness of Heavenly protocol or proper spiritual etiquette. When you are getting ready for a special dinner or dressing up to go into the presence of a king or authority you must be mindful of the proper protocol. In the Old Testament, the cloths worn and the details of the physical surroundings in the tabernacle were astounding. Each color and article in the tabernacle meant something on an eternal level, representing Jesus and His work for mankind.

Believers who try to magnify the external rather than the internal position and attitude of the heart will quickly find a religious spirit and lose their child-like faith. Formal prayer is a realization of Gods greatness, picturing in our hearts scriptures like Hebrews 4:16, Let us come boldly unto the throne of Grace. This is formality. Jesus, who brings you to the Father, has prepared the sacrifices and offerings. You should stop and visualize coming before the Lord with His holy angels because of Jesus having an audience with the God who formed the heavens, created and redeemed us. You must have an attitude of reverence, awe, and worship. You have every right to feel comfortable because Jesus is Lord and Redeemer and has prepared the way for us to be covered with His work, honor, favor, and righteousness. This picture of formal prayer will extend to all areas of your prayer life, lovingly enriching it and keeping you from spiritual familiarity or ritual, which rob your faith. Jesus never did away with heavenly protocol but is Himself our protocol, as our High Priest. We have total complete access to God the Father, in His name. Directions in Prayer: Following or facing a need or emergency ~ use scripture and praying for it to change the situation or bring provision to meet the need. Need led prayer is only acceptable while you are growing and should be replaced with preventative prayer after you mature. Preventive Prayer ~ praying and communing with God and in the process of our fellowship, the Holy Spirit reveals to us things to come, warning and preparing us. The Holy Spirit knows tomorrow and the details of peoples lives. The Holy Spirit, in a prophetic direction, with our prayers, will show us things far beyond our limited understanding. He will show us people and situations to pray about beforehand, to effect a change or release direction or protection. Praying for our future seems too big to understand, but not for God the Holy Ghost who lives in us now for spiritual edification. The various kinds of prayer that have been categorized and recognized in scripture: 1. Intercession (intercessory prayer) ~ praying for others 2. Prayer of Agreement (Matthew 18) 3. Prayer of Petition (a formal request or written request)
23

4. Prayer of expression with worship, praise and thanksgiving 5. Prayer of committal (Psalm 51:5; Philippians 4:6; 1 Peter 5:7) 6. Prayer in the Spirit (1 Corinthians 4:2,4,5,13,15-18) a. Speaking and praying in tongues b. Supernatural edification c. Supernatural communication and help in prayer d. Assistance against demonic attacks, spirits, oppression and strategy (in Jesus name) 7. Prayer of binding and loosing (Matthew 18) 8. Prayer of dedication ~ repentance is an active part of our prayer time as we are seeking and declaring to the Lord our submission to Him. We find His spirit directing us (James 4:7) to dedicate ourselves more fully and to get sin out of our lives. This releases a spirit of revelation in the knowledge of Him, that we may walk more fully in His ways, dedicating ourselves to His grace that changes us. 9. United prayer ~ In Acts 4:31, when they prayed with united faith, they had evidently prepared to say the scriptures together. Joel called a fast and asked the Lord to do His will of mercy, acts of grace and deliverance, restoring and using His people. A great outpouring of Gods forgiveness, restoration and anointing was present as Gods people sought the Lord together. (Duet. 32:10; Joshua 23:10; Matthew 18:19) 10. Prayer of sanctification ~ prayer covenants, vows, and declarations in prayer are very powerful and open up ministry and new places for us in our walk with God. Intercessory prayer is the primary operation of Gods Spirit in our lives. It is praying for, loving and making petitions on behalf of others (the lost, unsaved world of people that Christ loves). He made intercession for the transgressors (Isaiah 53). God looks for those who will release His mercy and salvation for these that rebel against God. This is very clear throughout scripture. In Galatians 4:19, Paul said he birthed by prayer their salvation and prayer was bringing about their spiritual growth and maturity. Through the intercession of Gods people, the Spirit of God touches, births and brings revelation for deliverance and revival.

After learning the basics of prayer, you will begin to experience the diverse prayers and expressions of prayer that accomplish Gods purposes. For example in athletics, there are different rules or ways of operation for each kind of game. There are different rules and different spirits of expression for each sport activity. Likewise in prayer and intercession! There are different rules, guidelines and ways of scoring, depending on what type of prayer we are engaging in. Knowing the different categories of prayer and the scriptural basis and conditions will help you to pray more effectively. You will no longer stumble through your prayer time, with a hit or miss mentality. You can learn to partner with the Holy Spirit and a spirit of passion, with scriptural knowledge. You wont wrestle to exhaustion but pull down strongholds and releasing the captives, devastating Satans plans! Varieties of Prayer Anointing There are many different intercessory anointings or prayer graces available. The following are twelve possibilities: 1. General Intercessor ~ these prayer warriors love using prayer lists and never seem to get bored with them! They tend to be more disciplined and do not depend on a special unction to come upon them to engage in their task. 2. Personal Intercessor ~ they are people oriented and will lift a person up by name for a period of months or years. 3. Financial Intercessor ~ these are given a gift of faith for finances ~ both for individuals and for ministries. They love to intercede for provision to be released for the work of the ministry. 4. Crisis Intercessor ~ they pray for short-term, emergency situations ~ war, natural catastrophes, sickness, etc. When a crisis occurs, these individuals are awakened and volunteer freely. 5. Warfare Intercessor ~ strategic, on-site location prayer, confronting demonic strongholds is a grace for these spiritual warfare commandos. 6. Worship Intercessor ~ praise and worship that flows into spontaneously inspired prayers pours forth from these Levitical priests. 7. Government Intercessor ~ often these individuals pray for national and international leaders by name. They tend to pick up moral and legislative issues and carry them regularly before the throne of grace. 8. People Groups and Mission Intercessor ~ prayers for the 10/40 window; for Muslims, Hispanics, etc and missions endeavors motivate these intercessors.

Church and Leadership Intercessor ~ these intercessors are modern day Aaron and Hurs who lift up the arms of the Moses of their generation. They pray for the unity of the Bride; revival, leaders and their covering. 12. Prophetic Intercessor ~ these are those who pray from listening and hearing, seeing and feeling the burden of the Lord. This grace combines the office of the Prophet and the Priest of the Old Testament into one package. Additional Expressions of the Spirit of Prayer 1. Intercessory Prayer
Definition: Working with God in prayer by using our authority in this world to bring about His will for us and for others; standing in the presence of a king or high authority to obtain grace and the provision for the needs of others. An intercessor is one who takes the place of another before God, doing spiritual warfare for someone else. We must work with the Holy Spirit for this to be done. (Romans 8:26) Intercession is not praying for yourselves. We need a glimpse of the true picture of intercession from Gods perspective: 1. 2. 3. 4. The power of intercession. The need of intercession. The effect of intercession in situations. The practical application with our responsibility and involvement.

The Power of Intercession The power of intercession is the power of prayer itself. Prayer is the highest form of power that exists, and is the foundation that must be laid before any real, lasting, Christian fruit can come forth in our ministries. (James 5:16 Amplified) All things are possible to him that believeth. ~ Mark 9:23 Men ought always to pray, and not to faint. ~ Luke 18:1 The Need of Intercession The absence of prayer is the absence of the power and influence of God in this world. The answers for the problems today are prayer needs. As we pray, we can birth new Christians into the Kingdom. (Isaiah 66:8-9; Hebrews 12:22-23; Galatians 4:19)
I want a people who want to do my will as much as I want it done in the earth and will sacrifice as much as I have to see it done. laborers together with God. ~ I Corinthians 3:9

workers together with Him. ~ II Corinthians 6:1

In the book of Joel, God revealed the need and told His people if they would pray, the need would be met and that restoration would take place. Everyone has a call to prayer and should be praying for one another. But some have a ministry of intercession in that they are more devoted in this area and are used more often and have a greater anointing in this area. In II Corinthians 1:11 Paul said the believers could help him by their prayers. In Ezekiel 36:36-38 God said He would do certain things but not before His people interceded to Him for those things. So we see the will of God can only happen as we pray to Him for it to happen. The Effect of Intercession We should never underestimate our enemy that tries to prevent the will of God from coming to pass in this earth. Intercessors clothed with the armor of God are the only successful weapon and vehicle to stop Satans purpose in this earth and bring about Gods will. (Ephesians 6) Epaphras, fellow servant and a faithful minister, gives us a scriptural example to follow. (Col. 1:7, 4:12) The effects of intercession on the unseen warfare are seen in Ephesians 6:12, Daniel 10, and Ezekiel 28. The Practical Application There are two types of prayer in intercession: 1. 2. Mental, which is limited to our knowledge of a situation. Spiritual, which is unlimited in its effect and always a perfect prayer, through the help of the Holy Ghost. (I Cor, 14:14-15)

These two types of prayer can either be need-led prayer or preventive prayer.

Praying the prayer of intercession will cause God to get more involved in your life by showing and revealing things to you while you are in prayer. We start by obeying the Word, by praying the prayer of intercession just because the Bible tells us to. (Ephesians 6:18, I Timothy 2:1-4) (Refer to Prayer of Intercession sheets) In our understanding we can only go so far. By praying in the spirit through the help of the Holy Ghost, our prayers are unlimited in the success they can produce. Remember, God needs your prayer to work and Satan needs you to stop praying so he can work. It is your choice. In our understanding, we can pray certain prayers based on the Word and know, because of the name of Jesus and His Word, that our prayers are answered. In Romans 8:26-27 we can go beyond our natural ability and understanding and work with the Intercessor, the Holy Ghost, and lay hold of spiritual victories and bring about the will of God. We are talking about praying in tongues, not speaking in tongues. When you pray in the spirit, express your desire or situation you wish to pray about, then pray in the spirit and rely upon the name of Jesus, your rights as a believer, the Word of God and the Holy Ghost. At times, you will feel nothing. At other times, you may feel what the person you are praying for is feeling. At other times, you may feel oppressed or burdened in your spirit, or have an urgency within you. Continue to pray until there is a peace or assurance that the answer has come or that you have done what was needed to be done in prayer. Our intercession must be constant, practical, and then it will develop and grow and produce the effectiveness God desires.

An Overview of Intercessory Prayer Five aspects of intercession 1. Personal petitions ~ asking for circumstances to be changed (remember to pray specifically as well as generally, but pray with directed faith) and receive your Fathers answer, by faith. Do not pray and wonder if it will happen. Receive what you want, by faith. Thank God for it and minister to the Lord with the prayer of praise, genuine, sincere and whole-hearted. 2. Personal devotion ~ asking for growth and the growth of others 3. Meditation on Gods promises (His Word) 4. Intercede for Gods corporate purposes for His body. Ask God to improve your service to others and how you receive from others. Ask Him to help you see creative ways to minister to others with your unique gifts He has placed in you. Intercede for Gods corporate purposes that are vital for growth. Pray for the leaders God has given to you (living, lifting, and believing for them). Love on its knees, with aggressive prayer and faith for others, is vital to revival. Praying for others shows our maturity and growth. 5. Intercession for specific individuals ~ our president, and leaders of the land, your spiritual leaders. Different anointings will come upon us at different seasons to pray. As we grow we will experience different anointings in prayer. Different Types of Anointings 1. urgency and compassion ~ praying regularly will develop this anointing 2. continual separation unto the Lord ~ praying for Gods wisdom, protection and strength for your family, spiritual leaders, church. 3. Yielding ~ lifting up our voice on behalf of others, we start to learn to walk humbly. Pride is self-dependence. Prideful people are obsessed with their own cares and worries because prideful people dont pray much. They dont see their need for God or the necessity of talking to Him. They try to do it on their own and their pride will catch up to them. Satan is strategically setting them up for a fall.

30

Prayer Ministry Manual

4. Intercessors are teachable. They see needs, faults and problems and they dont complain, judge or find fault. They do not carry a spirit of accusation, but in prayer they identify with Christ and His love and compassion. They pray because God has shown them this need so they can bring Gods change and help through their prayers.

D.

Make every action an action of faith, believing that you received what youve prayed for.

What to Pray for: World rulers, the President and Government of the United States. All fellowships in Jacksonville our city. Perfection and holiness in the Body of Christ. Raising up a strong five-fold ministry to the Body. (Eph 4:11) Movement of the Spirit in the denominational churches. Revival in America. Those which despitefully use you. (Matt. 5:44) Pick a country and pray for their government every day. Seven Steps to Prayer that Brings Results (Matt. 21:22; Mk. 11:24) 1. Prayer that brings results must be based on Gods Word. Start with the answer ~ the Word. (Jn. 3:22; 5:14-15) Prove the will of God. (Rom. 12:2) 2. Begin the application of faith. Start your confession before you have it. Believe you receive. Confess the truth. (Jam. 3:11-17; Rom. 3:4) Hold fast to your confession. (Heb. 4:11-16) Act as though it is already done. (Jam. 2:14-24) To be afraid to confess or act before you have it is to doubt Gods Word! 3. Refuse to allow doubts and fears to enter your consciousness. Satan can work in the area of suggestions, dreams, etc., the same as God does. You are the establishing witness. Control your thoughts with the Word, dwelling on the answer instead of the problem. (II Cor. 10:5) 4. See yourself succeed; not fail. (Prov. 4:20-24) Keep the Word in front of your eyes. If the eye is single, the whole body is full of light (Matt. 6:22-23). 5. Testify of what you believe. (Rev. 12:11) Add your testimony to what you have received by the Blood ~ your Redemption. 6. Get involved praying for someone else. (I Tim 2:1-2) Faith works by love. (Gal. 5:6)

7. Get on the giving end. (Lk. 6:38) If you need healing, tell the message of healing to someone else. If you need money, give. It is Gods law ~ you will reap what you sow.

Prayer Leaders
Leadership is critical to the success of any ministry. Someone other than the pastor must be able to coordinate the prayer ministry. Qualifications of a Prayer Leader: must have a strong personal love for Jesus, a strong personal prayer life, walking in humility. must be spiritually mature; to counsel, exhort, and teach. Have the ability to keep a prayer team focused with faith, scriptures, Godly character and love.

AN INTERCESSOR MUST KEEP

THEIR LEARNING ABOUT PRAYER BALANCED WITH PRACTICAL TEACHING OF MUTUAL SUBMISSION.

must have the gift of organization, encouragement, leadership and communication. Have the ability to keep track of schedules and planning strategic prayer meetings, coordinating with other prayer leaders. must have a flexible schedule that allows the freedom and time to pray and lead others in prayer. Your job can not be a distraction to your ministry, nor your ministry be a distraction to your job. must keep a journal; sharing the living testimonies of answered prayer in every area (spiritually, physically, and financially). Blessed are they that keep his testimonies, and that seek him with the whole heart (Psalm 119:2). Have the ability to contribute to a periodic prayer publication. must have a fervent love for the leadership and pastors of the church. Having a realization that they are warriors and defenders and anointed to silence all accusation and slander against any member of the congregation. Many intercessors become judgmental and critical because they were out of tune with leadership having self-willed subtle pride and lacking a servants heart and a love for Jesus. must meet once a week with their team of intercessors for discussion and sharing time, beginning with and followed with more prayer.

TRUE INTERCESSORS HAVE

THE MOST TEACHABLE AND HUNGRY SPIRITS!

Ministers in this area are responsible to guard, protect and strengthen Gods people, by wrestling demonic strongholds. They must have a persistent love, be on their knees, birthing, releasing and strengthening the purposes of God!

Only with Gods authority, instruction and anointing does the intercessor know Hes able to fulfill this servant ministry to the pastors and leadership of the church. A true intercessor will walk humbly before the Lord because they know the snares of the devil come through pride and self-dependence. A sense of superiority will distort their spiritual perception, causing them and others to fall. Responsibilities of the Prayer Coordinator: Oversee the intercessory prayer ministry unto the Lord and the pastoral staff. Select and enlist a prayer team to labor with them, through careful training and loving examination. Must be able to rally people to prayer meetings, causing growth and enjoyment (causing the people to leave wanting more). Gather many sources of teachings and testimonies on prayer to keep peoples faith strong. This will develop an information network of prayer resources. This will include communicating with other churches and prayer ministries around the country. Having a wealth of ideas, teaching and practical encouragement to take people from personal prayer to prayer that will change families, cities and nations. Organize and structure a guide that nurtures believers. Must be accountable so they can be spoken into causing them to develop making much power available. Keep pastors and congregation well informed, seeking counsel in humility. Scheduling specific times for believers to pray when many are together. Research citys current prayer ministries and coordinate strategically with them. Develop a long-term plan for the prayer ministry.

The greater the clarity of teaching on prayer and the order of leadership the greater the effectiveness.

A Successful Prayer Ministry for this Church Must Have: Prayer leaders who motivate others to pray Purpose and direction Visual and written plans, goals, desires, and direction. Must provide an opportunity for every member to partake of the prayer ministry and personally develop their private prayer time. Our calling from God is on two levels: individual assignments and collective assignments (including the people God has planted us with). Must have a prayer budget! Collecting financial support for activities, materials, and salaries as the Lord develop the prayer ministry. The model of the prayer tower building will always be in the front of the congregation and the opportunity to give will always be on the offering envelopes. Purpose of the Prayer Tower Building Our cornerstone of prayer symbolizes our dependence on God and our need for His anointing and direction for the harvest. We must make our house, His house of prayer. A place of prayer should, in appearance, convey the supreme value of prayer to our ministry and members. When people see the Prayer Tower, they should see a reflection of our faith. This building is dedicated to the believers who dedicated themselves to the Lord. Together we have built this tower for the priestly ministry of prayer, expressing faith in the God who answers prayer! Every activity of prayer in this building and piece of dcor expresses our honor to God. This is a building for the watchman, where believers can come to talk to their Heavenly Father on behalf of all men. Churches must be willing to pay a price for a first class organized, informed, visible, attractive prayer ministry. Good prayer materials cost money. Having a comprehensive prayer library is a good step toward having diversity, accuracy and power, grounded in Gods word. We are committed to teaching all the believers at New Covenant Ministries to pray. Not just seasoned intercessors but we all are called to carry the presence of God that is in us to Him

on behalf of others. Prayer is not an option but a privilege, never to be neglected! We must declare our total dependence on Him and willingness for Him to use us to fulfill His will.

Implement, Maintain and Assess

(taken from Watchman Prayer by Dutch Sheets) Everyone who participates in prayer ministry needs to know the guidelines, rules and boundaries and must be willing to submit to the leadership of the group. Its important that people understand that prayer is a discipline that can be learned. Training builds confidence and expertise in prayer. Dick Eastmans, The Hour That Changes the World is an excellent teaching model. Each church needs to find what will work best of them. As people pray the Scriptures, corporate prayer becomes alive and is saved from boredom. A prayer guide can be used to lead prayer through the Word, asking God to perform His Word in specific areas. The Word of God gives vocabulary to prayer and is the prayer language of the Father. Let the Word permeate your prayer ministry. As you recruit people to pray, it is helpful to set specific goals for recruitment, such as 20 hours of prayer each week, 40 hours of prayer each week, 144 hours of prayer each week or whatever is appropriate for your situation. Here are some guidelines for successful recruiting: 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. 8. 9. Try to offer a variety of prayer models to appeal to different people. Make everything about your prayer ministry as first-class and attractive as possible. The best place to recruit is from the pulpit. People support what the pastor supports. Print the purpose of the prayer ministry in your bulletin or newsletter, and give updates on its development. Make sure your prayer recruitment emphasis does not conflict with other major events in the church. Approach groups in the church, such as youth, singles, womens and mens groups make this a church-side emphasis. Put up a sign-up board in the foyer. Make your prayer ministry recruitment a part of the new member orientation. Emphasize special considerations that may help people feel more comfortable with the idea of signing-up for the prayer ministry.

Use alternates and day captains to improve participation and to establish accountability. Give feedback to those who pray so they can be motivated by the answers. Publish the results of prayer in your church bulletin or newsletter, or make prayer announcements from the pulpit. Appreciate those who pray in visible ways.

It is very important to be alert and stand guard against the inevitable attacks of Satan. Five demonic attacks are listed below with an appropriate response through prayer: 1. Satan Wants to Bring Destruction: Our response to this attack should be to pray Gods protection over the prayer ministry. Take authority over Satan in the strong name of Jesus, binding him with the blood of our Lord. Satan Cultivated Indifference: We can counter apathy when we ask God to raise up enough intercessors and reserves to fill each hour. Satan Works Through Enshrinement: We can combat pride when we pray that God will never let us become more impressed with the ministry than with Him. Ask God to help us to look only to Him, giving Him the glory. Satan Wants to See Carnal Intercessors: The solution to this subtle corruption is to pray that God will have full control over every intercessors life. Satan Encourages Indiscretion: Our defense is to pray that God will cause us to set a guard over our mouths. Nothing will destroy the intercessory prayer ministry as quickly as gossiping about peoples problems and needs. Do not share these needs with anyone once you leave the prayer room unless you have permission to do so. This matter is critical. The effects are disastrous. (see Prov. 16:28; 17:9; 18:8; 26:20,22)

4. 5.

As you develop your prayer ministry, it is essential to be aware of the following obstacles to mobilizing corporate prayer in the church, in order to overcome them: 1. The Church has been inundated with Christian humanism (i.e. doing things for God in our own abilities). 2. Prayer is often human centered, not God centered. We tend to use prayer as a means to get what we want to further our own kingdoms What will I get out of it?

38

3. Consistent, continual corporate prayer is difficult to establish because so much of our praying today is dependent on feelings. Prayer-room praying depends on a corporate mentality of discipline and commitment. Prayer is a choice, not a feeling. Prayer is based on obedience and our love for Christ. 4. Corporate prayer is work because it has been neglected for so many years. There is a huge void in the training of ministers in prayer. 5. Prayer ministries are slow to start because people are often afraid of group prayer. Fear of failure or discomfort, often based on past experiences, can be great hindrances to many people. 6. Prayer for a city in a prayer ministry is difficult to start because we live in an instant, fast-food society. We want formulas for quick results. 7. Prayer is hard to find when there is a lack of vision for church growth. With little vision, there can be little prayer. A vision to reach the city for Christ stretches us beyond ourselves and causes us to seek God. 8. There is resistance to prayer because the enemy hates sustained prayer and will throw every obstacle imaginable in the way of a prayer ministry. 9. Prayer ministries are hard to establish because churches are often too busy to pray. 10. Collective, consistent prayer is difficult when there is a lack of Christ-centeredness. The main reason we pray is the wonder and revelation of Jesus. You may need to pray for a return of His exaltedness to your church in order to pray rightly. The revelation of Jesus will cause people to want to simply come and sit in His presence. Without such a vision of Jesus Christ, prayer becomes a religious routine, void of intimacy and fulfillment. One of the Fathers most important agendas is for us to spend time seeking Him for the lost and for ways to reach them. When God gives us a great task, He expects us to seek Him with all our heart and soul and strength before we endeavor to do that task. We must realize completely that His Spirit, not might or power, will accomplish this task. On of the fastest ways to kill a prayer ministry is to allow it to become an end in itself. Once that happens, people will begin to lose interest and the ministry will starve for lack of commitment. The way to keep a prayer ministry going is to attach it to the Great Commission. Prayer is not an end in itself; it is a means to accomplishing the work of God. Remember, our ultimate goal is a harvest of souls, not just well-organized prayer ministries.

Consider this testimony of Terry Teykl: I remember during one of our first vigils, my time slot was 10:00 in the morning. You must understand that being a fledgling church, our office was a very obscure store front in a small strip of businesses. Yet while I was there praying alone, a young man came to the door wanting to know if someone could talk to him about how to become a Christian. I was astounded. It was our first profession of faith, and it appropriately happened while I was praying, not preaching. I was so moved by the experience that we planned another vigil for the next Saturday, and I signed up again, this time for 4:00 in the afternoon. Again, while I was praying, I heard a knock at the door only to discover another troubled young man who was looking for answers. He, too, accepted Christ, becoming our second profession of faith. For that to have happened once was almost unbelievable, but twice I knew God was speaking to me. He showed me, If you will find Me, others will find you. Prayer evangelism works. When we pray targeting the Great Commission, people are drawn to Christ, not by our sign or our building, but by the Holy Spirit.

Prayer Scriptures
Ask And all things, whatsoever ye shall ask in prayer, believing, ye shall receive. (Mat 21:22) And I say unto you, Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you. (Luke 11:9) If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children: how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him? (Luke 11:13) But I know, that even now, whatsoever thou wilt ask of God, God will give it thee. 11:22) (John

And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. (John 14:13) If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it. (John 14:14) If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you. (John 15:7) Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you, that ye should go and bring forth fruit, and that your fruit should remain: that whatsoever ye shall ask of the Father in my name, he may give it you. (John 15:16) And in that day ye shall ask me nothing. Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whatsoever ye shall ask the Father in my name, he will give it you. (John 16:23) Hitherto have ye asked nothing in my name: ask, and ye shall receive, that your joy may be full. (John 16:24) At that day ye shall ask in my name: and I say not unto you, that I will pray the Father for you: (John 16:26) Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us, (Eph 3:20) If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him. (James 1:5)

But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed. (James 1:6) Ye lust, and have not: ye kill, and desire to have, and cannot obtain: ye fight and war, yet ye have not, because ye ask not. (James 4:2) Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume it upon your lusts. (James 4:3) And whatsoever we ask, we receive of him, because we keep his commandments, and do those things that are pleasing in his sight. (1 John 3:22) And if we know that he hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of him. (1 John 5:15) If any man see his brother sin a sin which is not unto death, he shall ask, and he shall give him life for them that sin not unto death. There is a sin unto death: I do not say that he shall pray for it. (1 John 5:16)

Call To the chief Musician on Neginoth, A Psalm of David. Hear me when I call, O God of my righteousness: thou hast enlarged me when I was in distress; have mercy upon me, and hear my prayer. (Psa 4:1) And call upon me in the day of trouble: I will deliver thee, and thou shalt glorify me. 50:15) As for me, I will call upon God; and the LORD shall save me. (Psa 55:16) In the day of my trouble I will call upon thee: for thou wilt answer me. (Psa 86:7) He shall call upon me, and I will answer him: I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him, and honour him. (Psa 91:15) Hide not thy face from me in the day when I am in trouble; incline thine ear unto me: in the day when I call answer me speedily. Then shall they call upon me, but I will not answer; they shall seek me early, but they shall not find me: (Prov 1:28) But I said, How shall I put thee among the children, and give thee a pleasant land, a goodly heritage of the hosts of nations? and I said, Thou shalt call me, My father; and shalt not turn away from me. (Jer 3:19) Then shall ye call upon me, and ye shall go and pray unto me, and I will hearken unto you. Intercession Therefore will I divide him a portion with the great, and he shall divide the spoil with the strong; because he hath poured out his soul unto death: and he was numbered with the transgressors; and he bare the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors. (Isa 53:12) But if they be prophets, and if the word of the LORD be with them, let them now make intercession to the LORD of hosts, that the vessels which are left in the house of the LORD, and in the house of the king of Judah, and at Jerusalem, go not to Babylon. (Jer 27:18) Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. (Rom 8:26) And he that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit, because he maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of God. (Rom 8:27) Who is he that condemneth? It is Christ that died, yea rather, that is risen again, who is even at the right hand of God, who also maketh intercession for us. (Rom 8:34) God hath not cast away his people which he foreknew. Wot ye not what the scripture saith of Elias? how he maketh intercession to God against Israel, saying, (Rom 11:2) Wherefore he is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by him, seeing he ever liveth to make intercession for them. (Heb 7:25)

(Luke 18:10) The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, God, I thank thee, that I am not as other men are, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even as this publican. (Luke 21:36) But I have prayed for thee, that thy faith fail not: and when thou art converted, strengthen thy brethren. (Luke 22:40) And he was withdrawn from them about a stone's cast, and kneeled down, and prayed, (Luke 22:41) And being in an agony he prayed more earnestly: and his sweat was as it were great drops of blood falling down to the ground. (Luke 22:44) And when he rose up from prayer, and was come to his disciples, he found them sleeping for sorrow, (Luke 22:45) And said unto them, Why sleep ye? rise and pray, lest ye enter into temptation. 22:46) In the mean while his disciples prayed him, saying, Master, eat. Prayer is the great means by which Christians come into the presence of God, to worship Him, and to receive from Him the guidance, the help, and the strength which they need at all times. Every Christian should set aside regular times each day, to spend in personal prayer and Bible reading. The whole Bible and especially the New Testament emphasizes both the willingness and the ability of God to answer prayer (See Matt. 7:7-8). Indeed, God is more willing to answer prayer, than men are to pray. However, in order to receive the answers to our prayers, we must meet the conditions stated in Gods Word. Most of the answers in this study deal with these conditions.
