Admissions Policy 2013

Stretford High School is an 11-16 Foundation School Pupils will be admitted without reference to ability or aptitude. The net capacity of the school for the purpose of admissions to Year 7 in September 2013 will be 160 places. Places will be offered by the Local Authority on 1st March 2013. All applications for a place must be made on your Local Authoritys Common Application Form. OVER SUBSCRIPTION Where applications for admission exceed the number of places available for September 2013 the following criteria will be applied, in the order set out below, to decide which children to admit: 1. Looked after' children (as defined in the Education Act 2002 Admissions). 2. Where the child has an older brother or sister attending the school up to and including Year 11 in the September when the sibling is officially admitted (This includes half/step/adopted/foster brothers or sisters, and any other children, who are living at the same address as part of the same family unit). 3. Children who live nearest to the school, measured in a direct straight line from the front door of the child's permanent place of residence to the main entrance of the school. This will be measured using property co-ordinates provided through a combination of the Trafford Local Land and Property Gazetteer (BS7666), other Local Authorities and Royal Mail Postal Address Information.

The child's home address means the address where the child normally and permanently lives on a full-time basis, not the address of any child-minder, grandparent or any other relative. In the case of parents who are separated or divorced and where child-care arrangements are shared between two addresses, the average of the distances of the two addresses from the school will be used for the purpose of determining priority for admission. Waiting List Unsuccessful applicants may request to be placed on a waiting list and thus be considered for any place that may arise in the future. Waiting lists for admission to all year groups will be compiled and ranked according to the over-subscription criteria listed above.

Appeals The parent of any child refused admission to the school will have the right to appeal to an Independent Appeals Panel in accordance with the requirements of the Education Act 1998
