SPECIFICATION

T I M B E R:
SCOPE: Used in building works. DESCRIPTION: Timber shall be from the heart of the sound tree of mature growth, the sagwood being entirely removed. It shall be uniform in substance, straight in fiber , free from large loose dead or cluster knots, flaws, shakes, wraps, cup, spring, twists, bends and, defect. It should be free from spongy, brittle, flaky, sapwood and borer holes. All timber should be seasoned and be free from decay, not, harmful fungi and insert attacks and from any other damage of harmful nature which will affect the strength, durability, appearance or its usefulness for the purpose. Colour: - The colour should be uniform, as the darkness amongst coloured species signifies strength and durability. Kinds: - Normally for doors, windows, roofs, scantling, trusses, Indian Teak wood is used. Nana can be used for alternative. Adequately seasoned and properly treated of Haldu, Anjan and Bijasal can be used for items for woodwork. Seasoned rose wood can be used for internal fittings for furniture. Junglewood or hardwood can be used for inferior or temporary works. Seasoning: Seasoned timber shall be judged from its moisture contents as laid down in I.S. 287-1951. Care must be taken to see that warping or cracking does not set in during seasoning. Timber for building work shall not be wrought. All scantlings, plants etc. shall be swan in straight lines and planes and of uniform thickness.

CLASSIFICATION: Logs round, square or rectangular when the felled timber is not at all pro cessed. Pole or post - natural felled timber without any processing is classified as per the midgrith of mid-diameter. Planks- Swan scantling is less than 5 cm. or width more than 5 cm. Patterns- Thickness and width are each less than 5 cm PREACAUTIONS: Cracking wrapping should not happen during handling Sample should be checked by an Architect and must be deposited in architects office.

Should be stored under roof which is free from moisture, well protected from rain and absolutely free from insect causing defects. Should be stored above the ground on a raised platform. Sawing should be done by laying the material in the full length wherever possible with sufficient margin. MEASUREMENTS: Logs in cubic meters. Pole or post naturally felled in meters in groups of dia. Planks- in cubic meters or sq meters. Patterns- in meters only. Scantlings in cubic meters.
