Evaluation Components Explained


Initial Evaluation
The Initial Evaluation is based on a report that consists of the following 2 parts: viz., (i) an overview on Who's Who of the Organization, the companys Organizational Structure, its Work Flow and Information Systems and (ii) Plan of Action I. Whos Who The student should know and prepare a report on (i) the immediate operations team including the company guide and supervisors, (ii) departmental heads at the Company and (iii) the Chief Executive Officer/the Managing Director and the other top management team members of the company. II. Plan of Action The student is expected to prepare a weekly plan for each of the 7 weeks of duration of the organization study as well as develop an overall strategy for the entire study

Interim Evaluation
The interim evaluation is conducted based on a report containing the following 2 parts: viz., (i) 3C Report, covering the company, the customer, the competition, the environment and the technology, (ii) a detailed SWOT analysis of the company I. 3C Report a. The Company The student is expected to understand the company as a whole by going through various departments of the company. In addition, the student should also understand the position of the company vis--vis the industry in which the company is operating. In trying to understand the company, the following aspects may be studied: Marketing: Product portfolio, Distribution network, Sales force, Pricing, Promotion strategies, Customer service, Market structure, Market share, Competition Human Resources: Organization structure, Organization chart, Senior management, Departments and Functions, Staff strength, Recruitment, Training and Development, Appraisal and Retention practices etc. Retention issues Operations: Functions, Processes, Facilities, Measurement metrics. Finance: Capital structure, Financial ratios etc. Any other relevant function. b. The Customers During the initial period of the organizational study, the student should understand the products of the company and the customer profile. Effort should be made on various aspects of understanding the customers, their segmentation, product positioning, buying pattern, etc. c. The Competition A student is also expected to understand the competitors for the products marketed by the company. The Environment It is essential for the student to understand the macro and micro economic environment in which the Company is operating. The national and international environment which has an influence on the Companys performance also needs to be studied. The Technology Student intern should focus on the technology platforms and specific ERP packages relevant for the Company. it is important to get insights into the pre and post -technology productivity of people, customer service, grievance redressed, etc.

II. SWOC Analysis


A student is expected to study the economic environment in which the company is operating, understand its progress in the past and based on the same, analyze the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats to the company. The SWOC analysis should provide insights into the companys future prospects and the strategic direction

III. Final Evaluation

The Final Report should necessarily contain the following components. It carries 30% weightage in the aggregate. a. Report 1. Executive Summary. 2. Introduction. 3. Company profile 4. Profile of departments. 5. Profile of products & services. 6. Organizational structure & design 7. SWOC Analysis 8. Findings conclusions & suggestions. 9. References & Annexures

b. Presentation A presentation on the organization study conducted by the student has to be done at KJC Campus to an audience consisting of the Faculty Supervisor with at least one additional member in the judging panel. The objective is to provide an opportunity to get insights into the performance and consider them before finalization of the report. Presentation would be of 15-20 minutes duration. It carries 20% weightage in the aggregate.
