Lesson Plan - Technology VI Primary

The lesson took place on 10th January 2012. It was connected with the 3R ideas of Doing Our Bit project reduce and reuse different materials to make smaller the amount of rubbish that we throw away every day. Pupils were encouraged to create something from nothing.

Topic: Using the waste materials to create The vehicles of the future Main educational objectives: - showing the idea of rubbish segregation and encouraging pupils to think about rubbish problem during shopping - making pupils aware of the danger that comes from the constantly encreasing amount of rubbish - making pupils aware that not everything they throw away should be in the garbage bins. - introducing to pupils the containers marks, signs and products from plastic - explaining the meaning of words: biodegradation, reprocessing, reusing, recycling, rubbish liquidation - using waste materials to prepare vehicles of the future Methods: lecture, practical exercises, demonstration Materials: different waste materials: cartons, plastic bottles, youghurt tabs, cans, boards with slogans: Less rubbish better condition of the Earth, Look for a benefit in recycling, scissors, sticky tape, glue. Lesson stages 1. Preparing to the lesson, welcoming, giving and explaining the aim and the activities of the lesson
2. Pupils answer following questions:

- What the rubbish is? - Can a town exist without having a rubbish dump? - Where would you situate the rubbish dump, taking into account your place of living? - What rubbish do we throw away and should all the rubbish be put into the rubbish bins? - What do we do and what should we do to make smaller the amount of rubbish?
3. Pupils draw out conclusions:

- there is a need of rubbish segregation - there is a need of reusing different materials - there is a need of recycling different materials

Lesson Plan - Technology VI Primary - there is a need to pay attention to different signs and marks on the containers during shopping 4. The teacher hangs the boards with slogans: Less rubbish better condition of the Earth, Look for a benefit in recycling and discuss their meaning with pupils.
5. The teacher introduces the definitions; biodegradation, reprocessing, reusing,

recycling, rubbish liquidation


6. Explaining and preparing to the practical activity:

Why should we use waste materials during Technology lessons? What can we create from the waste materials that you brought? What type of polymers do you know? How can we join the different types of polymers?

7. Pupils design the image of the vehicle in their notebooks including the type of

material, its shape, how they can connect elements, choosing of colours and tools. The teacher reminds the rules of work in the Technology classroom and makes pupils aware of taking care of their work places.
8. Pupils make the vehicle according to the design they prepared. The teacher

controls their work and helps when they need it.


9. Collecting the vehicles and arranging the exhibition (there can be organized

some kind of contest for the best made vehicle, pupils vote for the craft that they like best, self-voting isnt permited)
10. Ending of the lesson, short discussion about the lesson, assesment of the pupils

skills.
