Q1. A pair of spur gears consists of a 20 teeth pinion meshing with a 120 teeth gear. The module is 4 mm. Calculate: the centre distance, pitch circle diameter, addendum and dedendum, tooth thickness, bottom clearance, gear ratio. Q2. It is required to design a spur gear speed reducer for a compressor running at 250 rpm driven by a 7.5 kW, 1000 rpm electric motor. The centre distance between the axis of gear shaft should be exactly 250 mm. The starting torque of the motor can be assumed to be 150 % of the rated torque. The gears are made up of carbon steel 50C4(Sut =700 MPa). The pressure angle is 20 0.FOS is 2. Design the gears. Q3. A pair of spur gears with a centre distance of 495 mm is used for a speed reduction of 4.5:1. The module is 6 mm. Calculate the number of teeth on the pinion and the gear. Q4. A steel pinion with 20 0 full depth involute teeth is transmitting 7.5kW power at 1000 rpm from an electric motor. The number of teeth of the pinion is 25, while the module is 4 mm. The face width is 45 mm. Assuming that the velocity factor accounts for dynamic load, calculate effective load on the gears, and the dynamic load on the gear tooth. Q5. A pair of spur gears with 20 0 full depth involute teeth , consists of a 25 teeth pinion meshing with a 60 teeth gear. The module is 5 mm while the face width is 45 mm. The pinion rotated at 500 rpm. The gears are made of steel and heat treated to a surface hardness of 220BHN. The service factor and factor of safety are 1.75 and 2 respectively. Calculate: wear strength of gears, static load that the gear can transmit. Q6. A Spur gear pinion (so = 200 MN/m 2 ) is to drive a spur steel gear (so = 140 MN/m 2 ) . The diameter of the pinion is 100 mm and the centre distance 200mm. The pinion is to transmit 5 kW at 900 rpm. The teeth are to be 20 0 full depth.Determine the necessary module and width of face to give greatest number of teeth. Design for strength only, using the Lewis equation. Q7. Two spur gears are to be used for a rock crusher drive and are to be of minimum size. The gears are to be designed for the following requirements: power to be transmitted 18kW, speed of pinion 1200 rpm, velocity ratio 3.5:1, tooth profile 20 0 stub,s0 value for pinion 100MN/m2 , s0 value for gear 70 MN/m2 . Determine the necessary face width and module for strength requirements only, using Lewis equation. Q8.
