PROMPT: This field/study/discipline has the word "Design" in its title.

In your initial post (by Thursday, 9/6), I would like you to explain: 1. What do you think the word "design" implies? What does "instructional design" means to you? How does the meaning change when adding the word "systematic" in front of "instructional design"? Design: To me, design means creating or producing something. You have a plan for an outcome you with to achieve and you design/produce that plan to meet the outcome. Instructional Design: To me, Instructional Design means producing/creating a program that is implemented into an instructional setting (school, work training, etc.). Systematic Instructional Design: To me, Systematic Instructional Design means producing/creating a program that is implemented into an instructional setting through a model or system. Systematic means following a plan/system to produce an effective outcome. 2. Share your own experiences to illustrate your point(s) above. When you share your experiences, be sure to describe the process you use to design or create learning experiences for others. It does not need to be in formal learning environments such as schools or professional development courses. One experience I have with a Systematic Instructional Design comes from a school district theory. The theory involves having the school in the middle and each class orbiting the school as in a solar system. Each planet serves a purpose to better the school. This is systematic because there is a model/plan to follow and it is designed to meet instructional needs. The outcome of the model is a student-centered, collaborative environment. The model breaks down each subject and requires, for example, all 9th grade English teachers to work together to come up with a common semester, unit, and daily plans so that each class receives equal instruction. 3. In your opinion, how does Instructional Design relate to Educational Technology? Instructional Design relates to Educational Technology as one of the many tools within Educational Technology. ID creates a plan/system to follow through the use of technology. Educational Technology is an all-encompassing word phrase that ID works within. In my opinion, ID is the framework or Educational Technology. It guides/directs the instruction and implementation of technology in a certain setting. 4. Share a short description of the topic you plan to work on for the required Instructional Design project in this course. After a 2 hour web-based scavenger hunt, high school sophomores in an English class will be able to define plagiarism, understand and use basic MLA format, use correct intext citations, references sources correctly, and utilze online resources such as OWL at Purdue.
