INTRODUCTION

Teenagers are vulnerable to Peer Pressure that is either overt or subtle. As teenagers, we have many dreams and aspirations. But sometimes, we are unable to share these with our family members and we rely on our friends to discuss our innermost doubts and feelings. Sometimes an advice from a friend may change our whole life. Teenage is such an age, where we often tend to lean a lot on our friends and get influenced by their choices. To be a member of a peer group is the primary goal of most teenagers during adolescence. The feeling of belonging and social acceptance is very strong at this stage of development. This is why peer influence plays a huge part in steering the experiences and interest of teenagers.

Sometimes in order to be accepted by our peers we commit such an act which we were not supposed to do. When this happens, we are not only taken unawares but suffer irreversible consequences that may change our lives forever. Being an adolescent, we want to be accepted by our peers and so we need recognition at all costs. This may lead us into a web of insecurities that we may not realise until very late.

This project will try to explain what actually teen pressure is and its consequences with the help of real life cases among which the Lipstick Killer case is prominent.

IMPLICATIONS:
The evidence from this study suggests that today the primary goal of most teen ager during adolescence is to be the member of a peer group. The feeling of social acceptance is very strong at this stage. The two factors which play a huge role in the process are: Search for the identity. Defining themselves by social influences and peer interaction.

Peer pressure have both the positive and negative sides. From the positive point of view we may state that a peer group help a teen to improve his social area. A teen may influence other teens to get involved in community service activities, helping others or joining a school sports or academic team. But, on the negative sides, social influence and pressure can lead to behaviours like substance abuse, risk taking and promiscuous sexual activity.
