The existence of the internet has made social interaction via social-networking sites a prominent thing nowadays.

The sole purpose of the internet is to create a world with no boundaries thus connecting people from all around the world .However, there are consequences to this globalization. A research conducted by the UCLA found that the number of internet users has risen by 3 fold and that teenagers are the main users of this innovatory tool. This has become a distinguishable threat towards the younger generations. Teenagers now are targeted by certain groups, mainly because they are more susceptible and easily influenced. These adolescents are being preyed by those who are sexually attracted towards younger-looking individuals, known as pedophiles. With the help of social networking sites, this task has been made easier for them as they can easily create a fictitious profile and befriend them. Consequently, the teens will approved their request and thus has fallen into the trap set by these indecent people. Besides issues regarding the safety of the teens in these social-networking sites, the communication tool has also been linked to negative body image amongst teenagers. Facebook, being the present epitome of social-networking has been a medium for narcissism and insecurities to develop. Peer pressure from good-looking peers has made teenagers feel the urge to be at par with these people and thus hating their own body. They start to go for drastic measures, such as crash diets and Photoshop, which is deemed unhealthy both physically and mentally. Besides that, Tumblr, a website and microblogging platform that allows users to post text, images, videos, links, quotes and audio to their tumblelog, has become a platform for some models to post pictures for their go-sees and these pictures are constantly reblogged by other users. Teens, a prominent user of this site, being nave and vulnerable, would recklessly idolised them, judging and questioning their own appearance in comparisons with these models, whethet they are as aesthetical as their role-models or not. As a whole, the internet and mass media are interrelated with the youths. The youths are naturally insecure in nature and this condition is further aggravated, due to the teenage community nowadays being easily influenced by the material theyve encountered on the net. The safety minors are also affected as pedophiles are becoming more tech-savvy and starting to take advantage of the plethora of social-networking sites filled with underage, easy-to-influence teens for their own pleasure. Therefore, safety and preventive measures are to be implemented to counteract the effects that mass media had inculcated in our youth.
