MEMBERSHIP REQUIREMENTS There are four classes of membership: (1) Student Member (2) Associate Member (3) Graduate (4) Corporate Member (5) Affiliate (6) Fellow The conditions for admission into any of these classes are as follows: 1. Student Member An applicant for the student member shall be a registered student who is pursuing a course leading to a Bachelor's degree or its equivalent in Chemical Engineering in an approved institution. 2. Associate Member An applicant for associate membership shall hold Bachelor's degree or its equivalent in Chemical Engineering. he shall at the time of the application have received or be receiving suitable practical training in Chemical Engineering. 3. Corporate Member Admission into the class of corporate membership shall be by direct application or by transfer from associated membership. Any person applying for admission into corporate membership shall satisfy the following conditions: (i) He shall hold a Bachelor's degree or its equivalent in Chemical Engineering from a recognized institution. (ii) He shall have undergone practical training in a field relevant to Chemical Engineering for at least five years. If he holds postgraduate degree in Chemical Engineering he shall be credited with the following years of experience. M.Sc.IM.Phil One Year Ph.D. Three Years (ii) The Society shall examine closely the quality of the engineering experience contained in an applicant's practical training report and at its discretion invite the applicant concerned to appear before a panel of professional competence and suitability for admission to corporate membership. Such interview may involve a written test. The training report must contain a summary of the applicant's academic and industrial training and his experience in Process Plant Fabrication and Materials Construction, Process. Plant Development Process and Plant Design, Safety, Plant Costing and Economics and Administration. The report must be certified by the applicant's supervisor. 4. Fellow Admission into the class of fellow shall be by transfer from corporate membership. The transferred shall be effected in either of two ways: (a) Direct Application A member wishing to transfer to fellow shall fulfill the following conditions: (i) He shall have been a corporate member for at least 10 years. (ii) He shall have been adjudged to have held position (s) of responsibility in his employment and in the Society. (iii) He shall submit an acceptance report on his practice of Chemical Engineering. b) Invitation by the Executive Council A member may be invited by the Council to become a fellow if: (i) He has been corporate member for at least 15 years. (ii) He has made significant contributions to the Society and the practice of Chemical Engineering. (c) Honorary Follow The Council may at its discretion confer Honorary Fellowship of the Society on distinguished persons who by their positions have made significant contributions to Chemical Engineering practice. Such persons may not necessarily be chemical engineers.
