You MUST answer question 1 from Section A which is worth 40 marks AND TWO questions from section B which are worth 30 marks each. If you answer more than two questions from section B, marks will ONLY be awarded for your TWO best answers. CALCULATORS AND ELECTRONIC DEVICES ARE NOT PERMITTED

APPROVED Section A (Compulsory) 1. It is claimed that DSDM, which provides a complete framework for building and maintaining RAD systems, is now the de facto standard for RAD projects in the UK (Stapleton, 2003). (a) Draw a diagram to demonstrate the main phases of the DSDM framework and the pathways between them. [15 marks] Clearly explain the objectives of each phase of the lifecycle. [15 marks] (c) Discuss the technique of time-boxing within the DSDM framework. [10 marks] [Total 40 Marks]

APPROVED Section B (Answer any TWO questions) 2. A new MS Access / Visual Basic DSDM development for a financial services company will take 6 weeks for requirements capture, 15 weeks for development and 4 weeks for acceptance testing. There is a 75% chance that the time allowed for development will not be sufficient because the developers are not experienced in VB. This would result in a development delay of 4 weeks, with an additional 9 personweeks involved. (a) Draw a diagram to demonstrate the impact of the risk, and calculate the additional effort and duration that would need to be accommodated in the project plan. [15 marks] A 4-week training course in parallel with requirements capture would reduce this risk to 25%, but it would involve 3 person-weeks. Draw a diagram to illustrate the inclusion of the training course, and then calculate the revised impact on effort and duration. [10 marks] Based on your calculations above, should the training course be booked? Please explain your answer. [5 marks]

(c)

3.

According to Stapleton (1998), the purpose of risk management is to actively control all the risks facing a project or the implementation of the solution it is delivering.

(a)

Draw a diagram to demonstrate the DSDM risk management process. [15 marks] Explain each of the following the terms in the context of risk analysis and management. i. ii. iii. contingency plan [5 marks] containment action [5 marks] tracker [5 marks]

APPROVED 4. The use of iterative prototyping is considered to be essential to the DSDM process (Stapleton, 1998). (a)

Explain clearly the difference between Business Prototype and Usability Prototype. [10 marks] Describe, with the aid of a diagram, where and how you would choose to set up a JAD workshop. Discuss the main roles of participants in a JAD workshop. [20 marks]
