Lois Templeton, Zeta Xi chapter past president; Susan Harmon, chapter treasurer; Natalie Eustace, Texas state program of work chair; and Patti Groce, 1st vice-president, attended. The conference was filled with learning sessions and renowned speakers Toni Murden McClure, president of Spalding University and the first women to row across the Atlantic alone, Ramu Damodaran, deputy director of the United Nations, and Murray Fisher, founder of the Harbor School in New York. The DKG Society provides scholarships for women in the education field, supports Schools for Africa Project and provides leadership training for its members. Dont Forget !
Remember to wear your membership pin and enter your name in the drawing for a door prize. Please bring your magazines for Casa de Amigos and toiletries for Safe Place. Remember to bring birthday pennies if youve had a birthday this month, or a birthday this summer. Ann Andrews reminds you to bring names of people who might donate to Storybook Christmas. (If we dont ask, they sure wont give.) Pat Adams and Ann will send out letters in September and need the names and addresses of those potential donors now. Perhaps your family would like an idea of your favorite cause (Storybook Christmas) to give a donation in your honor instead of giving you another knickknack. Please bring your list of names and addresses to the August 27 meeting or mail the list to Ann Andrews, 106 N. Bentwood Drive, Midland, Texas 79703. Speaking of recommitment. It is time to pay your Delta Kappa Gamma membership dues. Bring your checkbook to the August chapter meeting and write a check to Zeta Xi to give to Susan Harmon our Chapter Treasurer. Invite that special lady to visit Zeta Xi so she can learn more about our wonderful society Delta Kappa Gamma. Dont forget you can read this newsletter and view more member pictures online at www.zeta-xi.org thanks to our wonderful webmaster Susan Harmon. If you have pictures you want included on our website, e-mail those to Susan. Susan has also included links to State and International websites on our website. Just hover over the web address and click twice. Voil you are at the new website. Dont forget to fill out the member profile survey on page 7. Then bring to the August meeting. We want to know all about members and their suggestions for programs. Jot down suggestions for programs you would like to see or speakers you would like to hear.
Note: Hover over the blue colored websites in this newsletter with your mouse. Hold down control then click, it should take you to that website.

Zeta Xi Chapter Chapter Meeting

The Delta Kappa Gamma Society International

Alpha State Texas May 7, 2012

The May meeting was held in Nancy Dosss home. Nancy began with a thankful prayer for the delicious salad supper prepared by Zeta Xi members. The roll call had members respond with the answer to What does DKG mean to me? Twenty members and one guest, Elsie Pallanes, this years scholarship recipient, were present. Darlene Olson won the door prize for wearing her DKG pin. Anita Patton reported that a sympathy card had been sent to Jann Pullig for the loss of her husband Jim. Lois Templeton presented a red rose to all who had perfect attendance this past year: Pat Adams, Ann Andrews, Dorothy Blair, Virginia Conner, Nancy Doss, Lois Hagins, Darlene Olson, and Lois received roses. Lois also thanked the board members for their service with individual gift bags including a montage of pictures from the 50th Zeta Xi Chapter Birthday Celebration. Special recognition was given to Dolly Benson, for 50 years of membership in DKG. Dolly will attend the State Convention luncheon in June this year to be honored. Also receiving recognition were Lois Hagins, 25 years; Kerry Kay Cook, 10 years; Martha Moore, 35 years; and Heather Bostic, 10 years. Marsha Boykin was recognized as one of Zeta Xis newest members. Thanks to Patti Groce for a 5 Star Award for Newsletter and to Kathy Anderson and her committee for an exemplary Yearbook. Roses were presented to Committee Chairmen: Kerry Kay Cook, Ceremonial; Natalie Eustace, Music and Sunshine; Nancy Doss, Personal Growth and Service; Lois Hagins, Membership; Dorothy Thompson, Research; Anita Patton, Professional Affairs and Achievement; Kathy Landrum, World Fellowship; Virginia Conner, Scholarship; and Pat Adams and Ann Andrews for Storybook Christmas. A skit was given to honor the Founders of DKG and the important principles set forth by this international teachers society: goodwill, curiosity, commitment, enthusiasm, independence, collaboration, scholarship, caring, protocol, courage, and thoughtfulness. These principles have been adhered to throughout the years and continue to guide its members. Nancy Doss installed new officers. The theme was inspired by the tune I Want to be an Oscar Meyer Weiner with the words changed to I Want to be a Zeta Xi Officer. The new officers received all kinds of sausages and franks indicative of their duties. New officers are as follows: President, Lois Hagins; 1st Vice President, Patti Groce; 2nd Vice President, Darlene Olson; Recording Secretary, Jan Perkins; Corresponding Secretary, Martha Savage; Treasurer, Susan Harmon; and Parliamentarian, Lois Templeton. Each new officer also received hotdog buns in order to have a bunderful year! Lois Hagins received her Presidents pin and Lois Templeton was given a beautiful platter from the board members for her excellent job as President. Virginia Conner announced the scholarship winner for this year Corinna Saenz. Nancy Doss had applications for the area workshop to be held August 11. Zeta Xi is in charge of providing breakfast for the workshop. The meeting was adjourned. Respectfully submitted,

Dorothy Blair Recording Secretary

Lois Templeton President

Whats Cooking
All the breakfast foods that Zeta Xi members prepared for the Area XIV Workshop were delicious. Darlene Olson prepared one of the four casseroles and was sweet enough to share her fabulous recipe. Asparagus Breakfast Casserole 1 cup Bisquick 6 eggs 3 cups milk (I used 2%) 1 1/2 cups shredded cheese (I used the 4 cheese reduced fat Mexican blend cheese) 1 or 2 small green onions chopped 1 small can water chestnuts, coarsely chopped 7 to 10 spears (thin) fresh asparagus cut into small pieces, woody ends removed sprinkle of salt and pepper (be careful, the cheese is salty) Preheat oven to 350. Grease bottom of 9X13 glass baking dish. Mix all ingredients together and pour in pan, distributing ingredients evenly. Bake for 55 to 60 minutes. Many of our Zeta Xi sisters are big fans of http://crockingirls.com . You can also friend them on Facebook. There are delicious recipes on this site all made in the crock pot to be ready when you return home! Another answer for Whats for dinner? is the cookbook Women Teachers to the Cooking. This book includes 600 recipes, Delta Kappa Gamma quotes and memories that were collected from the Texas State Organization chapter newsletters. Sold out at the 2012 State Convention at Las Colinas, Vicki Davis is now placing a new order for the cookbooks. The books are $20.00 plus S/H (Vicki will try and waive S/H). If you would like to purchase a book or books, no need to send money now but you must contact Vicki to place your order. Before October 1, 2012, e-mail vicki_davis@cp.tamuc.edu. type your name, the number of books you would like to order, your e-mail address, and mailing address. Vicki will e-mail you to give you the total of your purchases and where to submit your payment. The profits from the cookbook benefit scholarships.

Letter from Lois

Ladies, This has been a busy summer for many of you and particularly for some of our members who attended the Alpha State Convention in Las Colinas, the International Convention in New York City and the Area XIV Workshop last weekend. Expect to hear about the things these ladies learned at these conventions and workshop. Also, I am looking forward to hearing about your travels this summer and the interesting places you visited. Nancy Doss, our Area Coordinator and our own special chapter member organized and led our Area XIV Workshop just this past weekend. We are so fortunate to again have one of our own leading the chapters in our area. I was extremely proud that we had the largest delegation of members representing our Zeta Xi chapter at the workshop. We all learned more about the importance of each of our positions in Delta Kappa Gamma. At our first meeting of the new year on Monday, August 27, you will again be learning about all the awards that you as a chapter earned during the 2011-2012 at the Alpha State Convention. We will be having our traditional Taco Salad Stack (executive board will furnish the fixings) at our meeting and sharing what stands out in our minds about our conventions and what we look forward to for the coming year. Please invite and bring with you anyone you would like to have as a member of our Zeta Xi chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma. Thank you for allowing me to serve as your president for this biennium. With your help I look forward to Zeta Xi continuing to be one of the most dedicated chapters of Delta Kappa Gamma. Sincerely, Lois Hagins
