Book: McDougal Littell Pre-Algebra by Ron Larson, Laurie Boswell, Timothy Kanold and Lee Stiff (provided) Course Description: Pre-Algebra is a course designed whereby at the end students will have a strong foundation in algebra while also preparing them for future study of geometry, probability and data analysis. Students will learn mathematical representations in multiple ways such as equations, tables, graphs and real world situations using functions in order to solve problems arising from those situations. We will learn about these topics while reinforcing communication skills, problem solving strategies, technology use, cooperative skills and application of math to the real world and other subjects. Course Topic and Schedule: The following is a tentative schedule for this Pre-Algebra course. It may be altered to fit the students needs and abilities. Student Rules 1. RESPECT your teacher, your classmates, yourself, and the room. Respect means treating others the way you would want to be treated by using positive words, actions, and attitude. Academic honesty is a form of respect, as well. 2. ARRIVE ON TIME. Be in your seat BEFORE the bell rings. Four tardies to class and you will be referred to your house office. 3. LISTEN, NOT TALK. While a teacher is teaching, giving directions, or answering another students question, you are to listen, not talk. Raise your hand if you have something appropriate to say or ask. 4. APPROPRIATE LANGUAGE. Putdowns, talking back, and inappropriate body language and words will not be tolerated. Consequences If the above rules are not followed, the following consequences will result: 1. Warning 2. Phone Call Home 3. Referral to Your House Office

Student Expectations 1. BRING REQUIRED MATERIALS TO CLASS. - An organized math 3-ring binder containing a notebook and class packets - Pencils - Graphing calculator (TI-84 Plus) - Assignment 2. EXPECT TO LEARN AND WORK DAILY. Do your best and give your best effort. This includes staying focused, staying awake, and completing daily work on time. 3. ASK APPROPRIATE QUESTIONS. Take responsibility for your learning and ask appropriate questions and participate regularly during class. Grading Policy Your grade in this course will be determined by the following weights: Homework 15% Assessment 85% Your percentage will determine your grade according to the North Hills School District Grading Scale: 90% - 100% A 80% - 89% B 70% - 79% C 60% - 69% D Below 60% E Absent students: If you are absent or know you are going to be absent from class, it is your responsibility to see Ms. Galioto prior to class starting or email her. If you are absent, view new lessons on Blackboard and complete the notes. If absent work is not turned in within a timely manner, the work will remain a 0 in the grade book. It is YOUR responsibility to make up any missed work! Extra Help/Practice: Anytime a student needs extra help or would like extra practice, please let me know as soon as possible. I will be available every morning before class. I will be more than willing to help in any way that I can. Do not make the mistake of waiting to ask for help!
