Delivery is smooth and consistent. Vocabulary is accurate and relevant to the picture. Structure is coherent.

The response is relevant to the picture but content may dwell on minor details.
Delivery is generally smooth but listener has to exert effort. Vocabulary is limited and sometimes inaccurate. Structure is limited and sometimes incomprehensible.

Response may be connected to the picture but ideas are very limited.
Delivery is marked by long pauses and frequent hesitations. Choice of vocabulary is repetitive and may interfere with meaning. Structure interferes with comprehensibility.

No response. Response is completely unconnected to the picture.

The response is effective. Discourse is highly intelligible, sustained and coherent. There is clear progression of ideas and relevant information required by the tasks. Speech is clear and generally well-paced. Vocabulary is accurate. The response addresses the task appropriately. Discourse is generally intelligible and coherent. Expression is fluid but with some minor lapses. There is relevant information required by the tasks but details may not be fully elaborated. Minor difficulties with pronunciation, intonation or pacing. Vocabulary is fairly effective. Some words may be imprecise. The response attempts to address the prompt. Speech is intelligible, but has problems with delivery and coherence. There are some relevant information, but generally incomplete or inaccurate. Grammar and vocabulary are limited. The response is very limited and speech is largely unintelligible. Limited relevant content and expression is inaccurate, unclear or repetitious. Connections between parts of a sentence are severely limited. Vocabulary is severely limited. Response does not address the task appropriately. Response is unintelligible. Communication is effective. Response is sustained and sufficient to the task. The opinion is generally well-developed. Speech is clear and well-paced. Structures are varied and vocabulary is accurate. The response addresses the task appropriately but may not be fully developed. Generally intelligible and coherent. Opinion expressed is clear and supported by more than one reason. There are some minor difficulties with pronunciation. Grammar is effective, though range of structures is somewhat limited. Vocabulary is fairly effective. The response addresses the task but development of topic is limited. Speech is intelligible but delivery and overall coherence may have problems. Meaning may also be unclear sometimes. Opinion expressed is clear and supported with one reason which is not elaborated. Grammar and vocabulary are limited. The response is very limited and speech is largely unintelligible. Limited relevant content is expressed. Opinion is given but no elaboration. Has difficulty with pronunciation and listener must exert effort to understand. Grammar is severely limited and ideas are not clearly connected. Vocabulary is severely limited. Response does not address the task. No opinion, choice or preference is stated. Response is unintelligible. Response is in phrases or isolated words and could be repetition of the prompt. No response. Response is completely unconnected to the stimulus.

Has no grammatical errors, Contains forms of both key words and used appropriately, and Is consistent with the picture.

2 The response consists of one or more sentences that


Has one or more grammatical errors that do not obscure the meaning, Contain BOTH key words, but they may not be in the same sentence and the form(s) of the word(s) may not be accurate, and Are consistent with the picture.
