The conquest of the Persian Empire by Alexander made him the Greatest General in Ancient History. Alexander the Great turned the tiny City State of Macedonia into one of the largest empires ever created, throughout History. Through his ambition and Great Leadership, he was able to lead an army 22,000 miles from Greece all the way to India, in the idea of unification of Macedonia and the Persian Empire. He was able to accomplish such a tall feat through his vast knowledge of Strategy and use of Weaponry and Armour, he was able to revolutionise warfare for years to come. Although, he was imposed with several problems during his conquest due to his poor decision making and lack of communication with his army, his leadership was questioned as his Over Ambition led him into near disaster. These aspects of Alexander the Great aided him into becoming one of the most praised and beloved General in all of History. Through his Strategic knowledge and his ability to anticipate, react and adapt, his army impenetrable by no other force in the Ancient world. Alexanders Strategic training came at a very young age as he was taught the art of war from his Uncle Leonidas. His father Phillip II developed a highly efficient and experienced army throughout his reign and observing and learning all his tactics and techniques was his son. He used his education throughout his early years and used it to strengthen his army and his own empire. Alexander was constantly able to make any bad situation good, as he was able to overcome all types of adversity in a matter of minutes. He exploited all weaknesses of the opposition and created a situation that was in his favour. A great example of this skill was in the Battle of Issus in 334 BC. Darius III Persian King picked a very narrow battle field which was at great disadvantage for both sides, but Alexander was able to see that due to Dariuss vast numbers of troops he was not able to fit everyone on the battle field. So he capitalized on his oppositions mistakes, out flanking and splitting the Persians infantry in half, thus exposing the obvious disadvantages. This Strategy Alexander used was by Themistocles a Greek warrior centuries before Alexander, this shows that his education played a huge role in his ability to coordinate and plan his attacks on his enemies. Alexander the Greats Strategic planning and vast knowledge of warfare, made him capable of seeing advantages in any situations, which allowed his army to be more efficient and successful over his conquest of Asia. Alexanders Leadership was questioned by many as it caused many problems throughout his conquest as his poor decisions and lack of unity with his army let down his campaign, but his leadership in battle was better by non as he was able to motivate and lead his troops into the battlefield.
