With the addition of gas fuel to this turbine, the OH-2 line is used now (The indication IF USED on Hydraulic Supply Schematic Piping Diagram ML 0434 was eliminated) See the MLI 0422 for more details. The following information is provided as reference, see the original service manual for more details. I. HYDRAULIC SUPPLY SYSTEM A. General Fluid power is required for operating control components of the gas turbine fuel system, this is provided by the hydraulic supply system. The fluid furnishes the means for opening or resetting of the fuel stop valves, in addition to the variable inlet guide vanes and the hydraulic control and trip devices of the gas turbine. The major system components include the main hydraulic supply pump PH1-1, and auxiliary supply pump/motor driven PH2-1/88HQ-1, the system filters FH2-1,2 , an accumulator AH1-1,2 and the hydraulic supply manifold assembly. Please see the specific Hydraulic Supply Schematic Piping Diagram ML 0434 357B6988 For device settings, adjustments, and design features refer to the Control Specifications ML A010 and the Piping Device Summary ML 0414. B. Functional Description Identified as connections OR-1,3, feeds filtered lube oil from the bearing header of the gas turbine and is used as the high pressure fluid to meet the hydraulic system requirements. A pressure-compensated variable displacement pump ML 0627 PH1-1 , driven by a shaft of the accessory gear, is the primary pump that pumps oil from the lube system to the hydraulic supply manifold ML 0947. An auxiliary motor driven pump ML 0628 PH2-1/88HQ-1 is also provided as the backup to the primary pump ML 0627 PH1-1. The fluid supply for these hydraulic pumps is taken from the bearing header; this fluid having been filtered previously. Hydraulic oil, pressurized by the hydraulic pumps, is controlled by the pressure compensators VPR31,2 , built into the pumps. The action of the compensator varies the stroke of the pump to maintain a set pressure at the pump discharge. The auxiliary hydraulic pump ML 0628 PH2-1/88HQ-1 operates whenever the main hydraulic pump PH1-1 pressure output level is inadequate for turbine operation, such as at standstill, or during startup of low speed conditions. When the main pump is operating and it fails to maintain adequate pressure, the condition will be sensed by pressure switch 63HQ-1, and the auxiliary pump will be started by a signal from this switch. Hydraulic fluid is pumped to the hydraulic supply manifold ML 0947. This manifold is an enclosure designed to provide a means of interconnecting a number of small components. Contained within the manifold assembly are relief valves, air bleed valves, and check valves. Each pump has a pressure compensator (VPR3-1 and VPR3-2) built into it which regulates pressure and is the primary control. There are also relief valves, VR21-1 and VR22-1, which will relieve pressure should the primary pressure regulator fail. Check valves , VCK3-1 and VCK3-2, prevent oil from flowing into the out-of-service pump. The check valves also keep the hydraulic lines full when the turbine is shut down. The air bleed valves VAB-1 and VAB2-1 vent any air present in the pump discharge lines. 2

From the output connections of the manifold assembly the high pressure fluid is piped through the system filters (FH2-1 and FH2-2) and now becomes a high pressure control fluid. The hydraulic supply system filters prevent contaminants from entering the control devices of the inlet guide vane system, the fuel control servo-valves and other hydraulic devices. Only one filter is in service at any time during system operation. The dual filter assembly complete with fill valve and transfer valve VM4 is provided to permit changeover to the second filter without interrupting the operation of the system. Differential pressure gauge is provided to indicate the oil pressure across the filters. When the gauge indicates 100 PSID or annually (whichever occurs first), the filter cartridge should be replaced. There is also a differential pressure switches 63HF-1,2 which alarms at high differential pressure. The following procedure should be should be used when transferring from one filter to the other: 1. Open the air bleed valve on the unused filter. 2. Open the fill valve. 3. When oil with air comes out the air bleed of the out of service filter, operate the transfer valve VM4 4. Close the fill valve 5. When no air is contained in the oil coming from the air bleed of the newly out into service filter, close the bleed valve. 6. If the out of service filter is to be replaced, open both its air bleed and drain valves. A hydraulic accumulator assembly ML 0502 AH1-1,2 are also connected in the high pressure line of the hydraulic supply system to absorb any severe shock that may occur when the supply pumps are started. In addition, the accumulator supplies the necessary momentary transient demands for operation of all of the hydraulic control and protection components required in the control and protection of the gas turbine. The output of the hydraulic supply system is a high pressure control fluid; a primary hydraulic interface between the turbine control and protection system and the fuel system servo-valves that control or shut off fuel. This high pressure supply fluid also is used as the hydraulic fluid in the variable inlet guide vane actuating cylinder and IGV control system. Refer to the Control and Protection Systems text of the original Service Manual for interrelated system information. II. COMPONENT DESCRIPTIONS A. Air Bleed Valves - VAB1, VAB2 1. Description Air present in the hydraulic pump discharge is automatically vented to atmosphere during turbine startup, by the air bleed valve(s). An internal spring-loaded ball check valve, normally open, allows trapped air to be expelled during low pressure initial starting conditions. With pump 3

discharge pressure increasing to the system operational level, the check valve spring element is compressed, seating the ball check valve, and sealing the air bleed vent line.

Maintenance The air bleed valve assembly requires little maintenance. Periodic inspections only, are necessary , for leakage and general working conditions. Continuous squirting of oil from the air bleed vent line at sustained hydraulic system operating pressure level is sufficient reason for replacement of the air bleed valve.

B. Filter, Hydraulic Supply System-FH2-1, & FH2-2 ML 1011 1. Description Filtration of the hydraulic supply oil is accomplished by this oil filter case designed to hold a replaceable cartridge. Each filter casing consists of a cylindrical steel vessel with a bolted-on top cover containing an integral purge valve in the center. Inlet and outlet connections are provided at the lower end with inlet located on the side. Plugged drain and vent ports are also provided. 2. Maintenance Refer to the Maintenance section of this Service Manual, under Auxiliary Control System Maintenance, for information.
