O Allaah! Do not bring me to account for what they say, and forgive me what they do not know. Shaikh al-Albaanee said: Its chain of narration is Saheeh . al-Bayhaqee added in ash-Shu`ab (4/228), through another chain:
...and make me better than what they think. *AL-IMAAM AL-BAYHAQEE reported in Shu`abul-Eemaan: Chapter (34): Regarding guarding the tongue: (no. 4875): Aboo `Abdillaah al-Haafiz and Aboo Bakr Ahmad ibn al-Hasan al-Qaadee related to us: Abul-`Abbaas Muhammad ibn Ya`qoob related to us: al-`Abbaas ibn al-Waleed ibn Mazeed narrated to us: My father related to us, saying: I heard al-Awzaa`ee say: If a man praises a man to his face then let him say:
O Allaah! You know better about me than myself, and I know better about myself than the people. O Allaah! Do not bring me to account for what they say, and forgive me what they do not know.

*And he reported (no. 4876): And Aboo `Abdillaah al-Haafiz and Aboo Bakr ibn al-Hasan related to us: Abul-`Abbaas related to us: Aboo `Utbah related to us: Baqiyyah related to us: Muhammad ibn Ziyaad related to us from one of the Salaf that he used to say about a man who had been praised to his face: Repentance from it is that he says:
O Allaah! Do not bring me to account for what they say, and forgive me what they do not know, and make me better than they think..
* al-Haafiz Ibn Hajr said in Fathul-Baaree (10/478) in his explanation of hadeeth no. 6061: ...One of the Salaf said: Whoever is praised to his face, then let him say: O Allaah! Do not bring me to account for what they say, and forgive me what they do not know, and make me better than they think, and al-Bayhaqee reported it in ash-Shu`ab.>>
