PRO-CHANCELLOR’S MESSAGE
Dear Friends,
The best part of my life in and outside VIT is connecting with my old friends and the opportunities to
make new ones. It gives me utmost pleasure to remind you that we are about to complete 25 years of
learning, teaching and friendship at VIT. YOU made this journey special! VITAA binds us all alumni
together and helps us network, socialize with each other and renew our contacts. I hope you’ll continue
to be active in VITAA and encourage more of your friends to do the same.
We had several alumni chapter meetings in the last few months at various locations and it was great fun
to catch-up with old friends. It was also fulfilling to see some of you exchange business information and
help each other grow in your careers.

Intelligent effort with perseverance and patience are indispensable for success - VIT vows its
success to this strategy. The journey of VIT through these 25 years has been remarkable - filled
with growth, success, dedication, commitment etc and along with it grew VITAA through which
the alumni stay connected with VIT.
From now on we have the added responsibility of carrying VIT and VITAA to greater heights and to reach many
more milestones, serving many generations to come.
In the hindsight, I would think, we had performed much better than what we had feared-thanks to an
excellent experience and training received at VEC. We learnt in tough ways to survive even in the
- 28 -
midst of difficulty and VEC provided that early foundation. We bonded well with fellow classmates, Principal, Chairman
and teachers, forming a cohesive team willing to take on the tough challenges ahead. We really had our fun time, in the
midst of gloom, we found new hope and encouragement. Our batch produced many University rank holders, a few of
them got admission to top Universities in US, while some pursued their masters’ in India. Majority of us, moved from
place to place and have grown eventually from strength to strength.
We owe this success of VIT to its founder Chancellor Shri. G.Viswanathan who had the vision, grit, determination and
tenacity of purpose to make VIT to be the best in the country. The rest of the VIT Management, Faculty, Staff and
students over the years have really contributed to its growth in a big way. VIT has seen many hurdles in its growth which
it has only made it stronger and resilient.
An opportunity to walk down the memory lane of VIT and seeing its transformation from unfinished flooring in our classrooms
in 1988 to world class marble flooring, dry land transforming to a lush green campus and a host of other infrastructure
standing tall would remind us how much we progressed and perhaps, some solace that we may have played some
part, however insignificant to its growth. We are truly proud to be VITians and we look forward to an opportunity to meet
our batchmates, and our juniors during Silver Jubilee Event to understand how each of us have grown and how we can
continue to grow as strong VIT alumni network.
S. Sambasivan,
1988 Mech
What “VIT” misses ?? VIT is hi tech today ,, but still misses the charm of nature trails and
farm house at abdullapuram.
VIT has the most modern sports facilities,, but still misses the charms of “village wells
which doubled as swimming pools“ at abdullapuram.
VIT has airconditioned class rooms ,, but still misses the fresh air from paddy and sugarcane
fields at abdullapuram.
VIT has multi cuisine restaurants ,, but still misses the “mama mess “ which used to serve
wide variety as long it is rice and idly.
VIT has multiple auditoriums, function halls,, but misses the charm of converting one
hall(drawing hall) for multiple functions at abdullapuram.
Footprints left behind by a small group of students in 1988 has transformed into giant strides with every
passing year.
The metamorphosis from VEC to VIT is to be seen to “Believe” ....
Best wishes for VEC (now VIT) to turn into a Goliath .
Forgetfullness....
we tend to forget small achievements in life .. and look for bigger things
we tend to forget friends ..who have helped while in need
we tend to forget parents ..when they are in need
we tend to forget our ambitions ...in pursuit of careers
we tend to forget small blips of joy ..in pursuit of perfection
we tend to forget telling kids what to do .. and tell them what not to do
we tend to forget the golden words "thanks" and "sorry"... and defend, defend
BUT
VIT does not forget its students .. it keeps a track of their achievements, moves in life and
it was completely unexpected and a real surprise , when Sekar sent word on my nomination for a
"distinguished alumni"
It was a mixed sense of guilt for forgetting the almamater and sense of mixed identity on"why me for the
award?" ...
but deep inside it was a sense of gratitude as it was an opportunity to reconnect with the almamater .
It is students who always relate to an institution , but this is an university par excellence ,,
Inspite of its stature ,growth and size,, it still retains a personal touch and creates the sense of belonging .
This element of personal touch lacks even amongst the so called "biggies" in education
This probably is one of the reasons which ranks VIT as numero Uno amongst its class and I wish it all luck
I have pledged to reconnect to this instituiton .. be it by way of projects, guest lectures and increase the list
endlessly.
