Virtual Storage Gateway Virtual Storage Gateway

Combines NAS, iSCSI SAN and NAS Head capability in one appliance
What is a VSG?
FibreStreams multifunctional Virtual Storage Gateway (VSG) is a scalable Network Attached Storage and Storage Area Network appliance that provides enterprise-class storage management features at an extremely competitive price. The debate between NAS and SAN can now be put to rest as the VSG gives the IT Administrator the ability to chose between File and Block storage as required by the application. Using volume-based virtualization, the VSG masks the complexity of individual disk drives and presents a logical pool of data. A true gateway, the VSG absorbs data from multiple sources (SCSI RAID, Fibre Channel SAN, ATA RAID) and supplies it to assorted servers and clients (Windows, Unix, Mac) using a common management interface and security policy. The VSG can be equipped with up to 2TB of internal RAID storage and can be expanded to many Terabytes using low cost external storage. The VSG uses SCSI or FC attached RAIDs or JBODs, attaches to fibre channel SANs and even manages storage from other NAS devices or Novell servers. Whichever way you choose to add storage, the VSG will let you manage it easily with the included web browser based VSG Manager. The powerful VSG Manager provides a single view of all storage devices, user and server access, storage utilization and advanced features such as snapshot and backup. Complex tasks such as creating RAIDs, adding iSCSI initiators and adding users can be done in just 3 clicks. Plus, the VSG Manager provides ample graphs, alarms and logs in order to properly oversee all resources.

Features
Dynamic Volume Management - Combine physical storage into logical volumes which you can resize and snapshot Filesystem choice - You may format each logical volume with one of five different journaling filesystems or retain the volumes in block format. ACL and Quota support included. Block Serving/iSCSI support - Using a common storage pool, the VSG serves File and Block data simultaneously via Ethernet RAID support - Create any combination of hardware and software RAIDs Scalability - Bring additional storage online without downtime File Sharing - Supports Windows, Unix, Linux, and Apple. The VSG also provides Share mapping capability to Novell servers or other NAS devices Authentication - Authenticate users from a Windows domain, NIS domain, and locally at the same time. Snapshot scheduler - Take multiple point-in-time copies of volumes that can be instantly restored from the client Integrated backup - Backup scheduler handles Share to Share backups automatically using snapshots. You may use NDMP or standard networking protocols to make backups with 3rd party solutions. Online support - Software can be updated online or with a CDROM. Interactive remote support is available via an encrypted link.

Benefits
Enterprise class - The VSG performs like a high-end data storage system at an affordable price Flexibility - Connections to Ethernet, Fibre Channel, SCSI and DAS make the VSG the most flexible product on the market Heterogenous support - The ability to allow realtime collaboration between Mac, UNIX/Linux, and Windows users Use Existing infrastructure - Standard Ethernet switches and NICs are used by the VSG Ease of use - A web based administration tool that makes powerful features easy to understand Peace of mind - VSG solutions provide redundancy, hot failover, hot-swap components, and email alerts Performance - The VSG can be tuned to your application with hardware or software options Easy growth path - Using add-on RAID systems, you can incrementally expand your storage system economically and unobtrusively Plug and Play - The VSG installation can be completed in under 5 minutes usinga web browser

NAS Filers are only half the solution.
