GREETING

Greeting
In September 2000, the United Nations (UN) proposed the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) as a new goal for human society. The MDGs were adopted through the UN Millennium Summit: MDG 1: eradicate extreme poverty and hunger, MDG 2: achieve universal primary education, MDG 4: reduce child mortality, MDG 5: improve maternal health, MDG 6: combat HIV/AIDS, malaria and other diseases, MDG 7: ensure environmental sustainability, MDG 8: develop a global partnership for development. MDG 3 is to promote gender equality and empower women. On January 1, 2011, the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and Womens Empowerment (UN Women) was launched to realize the MDGs. Duksung Womens University has specialized partnerships and aimed at nternational exchanges and cooperation with students from Asian countries for nurturing creative talents through global partnership, and has carried out constant sharing and volunteering services, sufficient to be selected as an outstanding university for students volunteering activities from the Ministry of Education, Korean Government. Based upon such experience and potential, Duksung Womens University started to extend its activities into the world arena along with UN Women. UN Women - Duksung Global Partnership Program for Young Women (UNWP) is a program run by UN Women and Duksung Womens University in the spirit of partnership, along with universities in Asian and African regions, companies, international organizations and non-governmental organizations, to nurture future young women. Although there are various ways of sharing in the international community such as sharing materials and technologies, the sharing of education and experience is most important. In this regard, UNWP is an education and training program through which future women of Asia and Africa share thoughts and experiences with each other, learn necessary knowledge, technology, and ideas, and solve issues that are common to humanity. We sincerely hope that the UNWP will provide a new road for future young women of Asia and Africa to pursue their dreams on the global stage, foster their talents to solve issues of race, region, and the world, as well as of the economy and the environment, and contribute to the development of global society.
