NOTE: The present manual is updated for the product it is sold with in order to grant an adequate reference in performing diagnostics and repair operation normally carried out by the service engineer. The manual may not reflect changes to the product not impacting service operations.

NOTE: The operating instructions are contained in the manuals of the equipment associated with the IB SYSTEM, because the IB SYSTEM itself does not incorporate any commands that can be used by the operator. A brief overview of the available commands is given in paragraph 8.1.

The Image Intensifier + TV Chain (i.e. IB SYSTEM) is an apparatus for conducting radiological examinations by fluoroscopy (or radioscopy). Fluoroscopy is a special radiological technique which provides a real-time view of the organs being examined, typically on a television monitor. Fluoroscopy utilises very low currents (from 0.1 to 5 mA) with prolonged exposure times (up to a few minutes). As a consequence, with fluoroscopy there is an image visible on the monitor for the entire duration of the X-ray exposure, thereby making it possible to view dynamic phenomena such as heart beats or catheter insertions. Through a feedback circuit based on the brightness of the image acquired by the camera, the system generates a control signal which, when connected to the generator, permits automatic adjustment of the kV as a function of the radio-opacity of the organ in question. This function can be disabled by means of a special control (situated on the radiological table console), to allow for manual kV adjustment in special cases. In a slightly different configuration, the Image Intensifier can also be used for digital examination procedures (also known as fluorography), in which the image acquired by the camera is transmitted to a computer for processing and storage. This technique makes it is possible to perform digital subtraction angiography, a method used for vascular examinations with contrast medium. Unlike fluoroscopy, the doses used are comparable to (though lower than) those of conventional radiography, that is to say the radiation is emitted in the form of brief high-current flashes. Whats more, the image resolution is much better because a 1024x1024 pixel matrix is used, rather than the 512x512 (or 576x576) of standard radioscopy.

The equipment must be used according to the procedures set out in this manual, and must never be used for any purposes other than those specified in the manual. The equipment must be operated by qualified personnel with the necessary knowledge of radiation safety procedures. The user is responsible for compliance with the statutory regulations concerning the installation and operation of radiological systems. The manufacturer shall not be held responsible for any breakage, injuries or malfunctions resulting from improper use of the equipment, or from failure to perform the prescribed maintenance. The IB SYSTEM is a medical electrical device, and as such may only be used under the direct supervision of a doctor or highly qualified technician, with the necessary knowledge of radiation safety procedures. This manual is intended to provide authorised technicians with the instructions for correctly installing and servicing the equipment.

SAFETY ASPECTS
The I.I. (Image Intensifier) essentially consists of a glass vacuum tube (similar to the tube of a television set) protected against mechanical damage by a metal enclosure designated the envelope. The larger-diameter face is designated as the entrance window and is protected by a thin (0.5 mm) aluminium sheet. The entrance window is protected for transport with a plastic plate secured by 4 nylon screws. This plate should be removed only when the unit is installed on the radiological table, as instructed in paragraph 5.2. The smaller-diameter face at the rear is designated the output surface. At the centre of the output surface is the output window, a round glass area 25-30mm in diameter and yellow/green in colour. The camera is installed on the output window. If the camera needs to be removed for maintenance, proceed as described in paragraph 9.1 taking care not to soil or damage the output window. On the side of the I.I. there is a square enclosure which houses the HV (high voltage) power supply. This power supply receives a 24Vdc input and generates the working voltages for the I.I. which are in the order of 30kV.

NOTE: Installation of the IB SYSTEM an a VSM radiological remote or tilting table has been designed in such a way to grant maximum protection against X-ray radiation. Manuals of the radiological tables indicate areas of exposure and typical doses delivered in those areas during operation.

Risks associated with the installation, maintenance and use of the equipment

WARNING: When handling the I.I., always be aware of the following risks: Implosion risks: if dropped or subjected to excessive stress, the I.I. tube may break, ejecting potentially toxic gases, dust and pieces of glass. The entrance window and the output window are particularly vulnerable areas which must therefore be handled with great care. High voltages: the HV power supply board includes voltages as high as 30kV (30,000 Volts). Do not touch any part of the power supply with bare hands or with metal objects to avoid the risk of electrical shock. Note that these voltages persist for a few dozen seconds after the power supply has been disconnected. There are no power on indicators on the I.I. or on the HV power supply board. Therefore, before attempting any operations on the I.I., always make sure that the power cable has been physically disconnected. The above considerations also apply to the monitor. In this case, the delicate part is the tube. Some parts with dangerous voltages are accessible through the rear cover plate, which must be removed for connecting the cables. X Rays: certain maintenance operations require the performance of an X-ray exposure. Although the I.I. envelope is sufficiently shielded with lead, the service technician must in any case take every precaution to minimise his exposure to radiation.

A malfunction of the automatic kV control circuit, with excessive or insufficient kV output for the organ being examined, will result in a displayed image that is either too bright or too dark. This type of fault is readily detectable by the operator. VILLA SISTEMI MEDICALI has designed and constructed the equipment to comply with all the safety requirements; the company also supplies all the necessary information for the correct use of the equipment, and the hazard warnings pertaining to X-ray generators. Villa Sistemi Medicali shall not be held responsible for: use of the IB SYSTEM apparatus for purposes other than the intended purposes described in this manual damage to the equipment, operator or patient resulting from incorrect installation or failure to service the equipment as instructed in the accompanying manuals, or resulting from improper use of the equipment damage resulting from mechanical and/or electrical modifications made either during installation or subsequently, and which differ from the settings described in the service manual.

The equipment must be serviced exclusively by personnel authorised by Villa Sistemi Medicali. Only authorised personnel may remove the covers and/or access energised electrical components. The equipment is not suitable for use in the presence of vapours, anaesthetic mixtures flammable in air, oxygen, or nitrous oxide. Do not spill water or other fluids inside the equipment to avoid causing short circuits and corrosion. Before cleaning the equipment, always disconnect it from the electricity mains. The equipment must be installed well away from sources of heat. In particular, before normal operation, check that the monitor is not positioned near heat sources and that the ventilation openings are not obstructed by foreign objects, as this may result in a harmful increase of the internal temperature. During normal operation, position the monitor so as to avoid accidental knocks against surrounding equipment and/or accessories. When performing radiological examinations, no persons other than the patient and the operator should be present in the room; make use of the radiation protection facilities present in the radiographic room.

Electromagnetic compatibility
Although the equipment has been designed to meet EN60601-1-2, it must be installed at a certain minimum distance from transformer rooms, S.C.R. uninterruptible power supplies and amateur radio or cellular telephone transceivers. Any professional instruments or devices positioned near the equipment must conform to the Electromagnetic Compatibility regulations. Non conforming instruments known to have poor immunity to electromagnetic fields must be installed at least 3 m away from the IB SYSTEM and must be powered through a dedicated electricity line. The IB SYSTEM must be kept turned off when high frequency surgical devices or similar devices are in use.

The equipment contains materials which, at the end of its life cycle, must be disposed of at the collection centres designated by the Local Health Units. The IB SYSTEM is available different models. The standard versions can have 9, 12 standard I.I.s or 9, 12 high resolution I.I.s and can be coupled with conventional or HF generators. The Digital Acquisition System versions can have 9, 12 or 16 high resolution I.I.s and must be coupled with HF generators. The equipment consists of the following components: image intensifier CCD camera with last image hold (except for digital versions) 17/21 monitor (except for digital versions) component plate complete with I.I. power supply, generator interface, TV CCU control unit for standard versions component plate complete with I.I. power supply and Digital Acquisition System interface support, for Digital Acquisition System versions.

5.1

ASSEMBLY
Installing the component plate

5.1.1

Remote-controlled tables The component plate is installed inside the remote-controlled table cabinet. Fix the plate to the left guide of the cabinet using the two M8 screws. The plate must be mounted with the component side toward the inside of the cabinet.

5.1.2

Tilting tables Fix the special cover on the component plate using the four M4 screws. The plate can be positioned on top of the generator cabinet or on the floor next to it. Alternatively, it can be wall mounted using the two eyebolts. When positioning the plate, make sure that the ventilation holes are not obstructed. In case the unit will be installed with a conventional generator, the plate will be 2: one for the management of the TV chain and the Monitor, the second for the command of the kV and automatic mA (Variac module).

Assembling the I.I. on the radiological table


The I.I. is supplied with the camera already assembled and with the cables already connected. The orientation of the I.I. is different for assembly on remote-controlled (under-table assembly) or tilting (table-top assembly) tables. 1. Remove the plastic guard from the entrance window 2. Secure the fixing plate to the I.I. input flange using ALL the screws. Be careful with the length of the screws, because excessively long screws may damage the I.I. 3. Install the I.I. on the radiological table, orienting it as follows: remote controlled table (Apollo): orient the tube and HV power supply toward the BACK END of the table remote controlled table (Mercury and Symphony): orient the tube and HV power supply toward the FOOT END of the table tilting table (Vision and Viromatic): orient the tube and HV power supply toward the BACK END of the table If the image is vertically or horizontally (mirror) inverted, the orientation can be modified as follows: Apollo, Mercury, Symphony and Vision: set the inversion value in the corresponding software fields. Consult the service manual of the radiological table for details Viromatic: modify the keypad connections by moving the wire from contact 4 to contact 2 on buttons S2 (horizontal) and/or S3 (vertical). See also drawing #14 of chapter 13 (code 39169015). 4. Position the connecting cables, running them inside the table to reach the component board 5. Plug connector X2 (9 pin D-connector) into connector X2 of the table-generator interface A2 6. Plug connector X3 (5 pin connector) into connector X3 on power supply board A1 7. Connect the ground cable to the ground bolt.

Assembling the monitor


1. Carefully remove the monitor from its packing 2. Assemble the monitor on the trolley and fix it with the 4 M5 screws 3. Remove the cover plate from the rear panel of the monitor 4. Remove the cable fixing bracket 5. Secure the tube with the special cable clamp 6. Connect the coaxial cable to one of the two BNC sockets 7. Connect the 75 ohm BNC termination plug to the other BNC 8. Connect the power supply cable 9. Connect the remote control cable (remote-controlled version only) 10. Reassemble the cover plate 11. Connect the ground cable to one of the two screws on the cover plate

NOTE: In the case the I.I. is used on tilting tables Viromatic or Vision, the remote control cable has not to be connected inside the monitor.

12. Position the connecting cables, running the corrugated tube up to the component board 13. Connect the BNC cable to connector X5 on the TV CCU controller A3 14. Connect the live and neutral conductors of the power supply cable to terminal block X1 of power supply board A1. Connect the ground conductor to the main ground bolt 15. Connect the conductors of the remote control cable to terminal block X4 of table-generator interface board A2

NOTE: The jumpers X12, X13, X14, X15, X16, X17, X18 are set in position 1-2 (TH) when a Thomson or Toshiba I.I. is installed in the system. The jumpers X12, X13, X14, X15, X16, X17, X18 are set in position 2-3 (PH) when a Philips I.I. is installed in the system. The jumpers X12, X13, X14, X15, X16, X17, X18 are factory adjusted.

The power supply for the IB SYSTEM is generally taken from the radiological table and must be brought to terminal block X0 as follows:

The protective ground must be connected from the ground bolt on the component plate to the main ground node on the remote controlled or tilting table.

Ground terminal X0.3 is a functional ground node, not a safety ground, and must be connected to the ground bolt on the plate or, in the case of a three-core power supply cable, directly to the ground conductor of the cable. In the case of direct supply from the electricity mains, it is essential to protect the equipment with a 250Vac, 4A automatic circuit breaker. Switch S1 on circuit board A1 is for utility functions only, and should always be in the ON position during normal operation. The protective ground connection must be made on the ground bolt situated on the component board and identified by the symbol.

Connect the bolt to the ground bar of the radiological table using a yellow/green conductor with a minimum cross section of 4 mm2.

WARNING: The equipment is factory set to operate with a mains voltage of 230Vac. Before suppling the system check the mains voltage. If it is different from the voltage set, it can be adapted by changing the connection of transformer T1 on the component plate:

6.1.1

Checking the output voltages To check the power supply voltage to the I.I. and the CCU, disconnect the terminals X3 and X6 and measure the voltage without load. On both X3, pin 4 (positive) and pin 5 (negative), and X6, pin 1 (positive) and pin 2 (negative), the voltage read must be 24Vdc 0.2V for N23 TV chain and 26Vdc 0.2V for N33 TV chain. If necessary, adjust these voltages by acting on trimmer R8 for the output voltage of connector X3 (I.I. power supply) and on trimmer R10 for the output voltage of connector X6 (CCU power supply).

CONNECTION OF ACCESSORIES
Connection of generators
The IB SYSTEM can be connected to High Frequency (HF) generators controlled by microprocessor or to conventional generators, which require the VARIAC module.

7.1.1

Connection to generators The IB SYSTEM is compatible with the Genius HF, Genius HF-A, G100RF and G100RF-A high frequency generator family. The pulsed fluoro modality, available on TV chain N33, is allowed with generator Genius HF-A and G100RF-A. The connection with these generators is shown in the following tables:

Please bear in mind that, for the ABC function, the IB SYSTEM can drive generators that have either an analog input (0 12Vdc scale) or a digital input (kV+, kV-). For the analog input, the driving is provided through connector X2, pin 1 (0V) and pin 2 (V ref.), of board A2; for the digital input instead the driving is provided through connector X5, pin 5 (kV-, common), pin 6 (kV-, open contact), pin 2 (kV+, common), pin 3 (kV+, open contact) of board A2.

7.1.2

Connection of VARIAC Module with I.I. system and with conventional generators If the equipment needs to be interfaced with a conventional generator, a special variac module is required to provide the generator with the automatic kV control voltage. The components of the variac module are housed in an enclosure which has the same dimensions as the component plate. The positioning of this module will depend on the type of accessories used in the radiological system. The connections to be made on the variac module are the following:

In order to check the correctness of the connections, carry out the following functional test: 1. After completing the connections as shown above, check the voltage at terminals X8.7 e X8.6. If the measured voltage is higher than 230V, set the primary of transformer T2 to 380V. If the measured voltage is lower than 230V, the primary of transformer T2 must be set to the terminals 0-230V.

2. Enable the kV/mA automatic adjustment. Check that increasing the kV value also the mA value will increase. If the system behaves in the opposite way (increasing the kV value, the mA value decreases), reverse the connection on the primary of transformer T2 (the wire connected to terminal 0V will be connected to the terminal 230V or 380V; the wire connected to the terminal 230V or 380V will be connected to the terminal 0V) 3. Set the kV to the minimum value and check that the mA will not exceed the value 0.5mA. If not, modify the connection on the secondary of transformer T2 until obtaining the desired value of mA (increasing the voltage connection, the mA will decrease).

Assembling and wiring the keypad for over-table serial changers (SAG 4 - SAG 6) on VIROMATIC The keypad is though to be installed on serial changers manufactured by Villa Sistemi Medicali (SAG 4 SAG 6). In case of need, check its compatibility with other models of serial changers. 1. Fix the keypad on the head side of the serial changer using the two M4 screws, as shown in the drawing below:

5. The cable departing from connector PRT21 must be brought directly to generator. In the case of connection to a conventional generator, this cable is not used. The three conductors are connected directly to the 10kOhm potentiometer on the manual kV adjustment keypad. The conductors are identified as follows:

Description of the controls


The controls for operating the IB SYSTEM are not situated on the IB SYSTEM itself, but rather in different positions depending on the type of table. The controls are situated on the control console in the case of remote controlled tables, and on the serial changer in the case of tilting tables. Further details on the positions of the controls can therefore be found in the documentation supplied with the radiological table. All the controls are identified by means of standard symbols, in accordance with the IEC regulations. Functional checks
After completing the installation, check the correct operation of: last image hold (if necessary, check the connections) vertical and horizontal inversion (if necessary, check the connections) remote monitor brightness and contrast adjustment (if necessary, check the connections) I.I. zoom (if necessary, check the connections) image orientation (if necessary, proceed as described in paragraph 9.1.2) recursive filter (if necessary, proceed as described in paragraph 6.2) automatic kV adjustment (if necessary, proceed as described in paragraph 9.1.3). In automatic mode, the kV value should reach a steady state without oscillations within a couple of seconds. If this is not the case, adjust the generator parameters as described in the corresponding service manual.

NOTE: For TV chain N33 only, is possible to get a test pattern to check the image quality on the monitor. To do that, set dip-switches S1.4 and S1.7 (A2 board) ON.

Checking the image quality


TV chains N23 and N33 DRF comes with Dynamic Recursive Filter. This feature, activated by default, can be disabled acting on board A2 (tablegenerator interface). It is advised to let this feature enabled because it enhances image quality both statically and during motion. Before checking image quality make sure that this feature is enabled and, if necessary increase the filtering action as described at paragraph 6.2 and paragraph 6.3.

NOTE: Filter weight (X0, X4, X8, X16) is more influent when standard recursive filter is activated; for Dynamic Recursive Filter the default setting is generally sufficient and acting on X0, X4, X8 or X16 does not affect significantly the filter action.

8.3.1

Jumpers X10 and X11 setting on Power Supply board A1 The two jumpers X10 and X11 on power supply board A1 connect the zero volt nodes of the I.I. and CCU power supplies, respectively, to ground. If the image on the monitor appears banded or noisy, remove/insert the jumpers to obtain a condition that minimizes noise.

Spatial resolution 1. Place a fluoroscopy spatial resolution phantom (range from 1 to 5 lp/mm) at the centre of the I.I.. The phantom must be rotated through 30-45 relative to the orthogonal axes. The most commonly used phantoms are: Huttner type 18 (contained in Leeds University Test Object Set) Nuclear Associates model 07-535 Wellhofer model ETR1 2. Make an X-ray exposure regulating kV and mA in such a way to optimize spatial resolution (i.e. focus of the system). 3. Adjust the monitor contrast to the maximal value (fully clockwise) 4. Adjust the monitor brightness so that the view of the phantom is as detailed as possible. 5. Select the different I.I. zooms (N, M1, M2) and compare them with the minimum limits given in the following table. Under optimal calibration conditions, the spatial resolution for each I.I. format and for each zoom level must be greater than or equal to the values given in table:

NOTE: The adjustments described below are factory settings made during the equipment testing phase, and do NOT normally need to be changed at the time of installation. The following operations should be performed in the field only when absolutely necessary, for example in the event of malfunction, replacement of components, or maintenance.

Camera adjustment

NOTE: The a distance is in function of I.I. model used and it is adjusted in factory during final test. If the camera must be replaced, recorder the a distance and apply on the new one. If spacer are present between camera and I.I. re-use that for the new camera.

WARNING: Removing the camera exposes the I.I. output window and the camera lens. Be careful not to touch the output window or the lens with your fingers or with any type of object.

1. Carefully clean the entire contact area between the camera flange and the I.I. output surface 2. Carefully clean the camera fixing flange 3. Focal distance 1. Using a felt tip pen, mark the two orthogonal axes with a cross at the centre of the monitor screen. Also mark the intersection of these axes with a circle 255mm in diameter

Orientation and centering 1. If the camera must be replaced, fix the new one in such a way the cable output will be in the same position of the old one. 2. Position a phantom with centring grid, for example Wellhofer model ETR 1, at the centre of the radiological table 3. Disable the Vertical Inversion, Horizontal Inversion and zoom commands 4. Slightly back off the locking ring C (Figure 9-2) 5. Perform X-ray exposure. Nominal parameters: 45kV, 1.0mA 6. Adjust the monitor brightness and contrast so that the phantom is clearly visible 7. Looking at the monitor, rotate the camera so that the image is aligned with the reference cross marked on the monitor 8. Stop the X-ray exposure 9. Lock down the ring C firmly, but without using any tools 10. Lightly back off the three camera fixing screws 11. Perform X-ray exposure. Parameters: 45kV, 1.0mA 12. Looking at the monitor, move the camera so that the image is centered on the reference cross marked on the monitor. Pay attention to the parallax errors during these adjustments 13. 9.1.3

Diaphragm and automatic kV adjustment The diaphragm adjustment is closely correlated with the kV value that will be delivered by the generator (when operating in automatic kV mode). The greater the aperture, the more light reaches the camera, and hence the higher will be the feedback signal which regulates the kV stability point. Essentially, all other things being equal, when the aperture opening is increased, the generator will settle on a lower kV value. The equipment is factory calibrated to reach a steady state with an I.I. input dose rate of 45R/s, which is the value commonly recommended by the quality protocols for radioscopy examinations.

To check the adjustment, proceed as follows: 1. Place a 1 mm copper plate between the X-ray tube and the I.I. 2. Select the automatic kV adjustment mode. This means that the input dose rate to the I.I. is 45R/s. If the steady state value is significantly different, it will be necessary to adjust the aperture 3. 5. In order to stabilise the kV for different dose rate values, adjust the kV, mA and filtration values accordingly. Note that higher dose rates produce more detailed images, but expose the patient to higher doses of radiation. It is recommended to not exceed 60R/s. The video signal output by the camera must have a peak value of 0.6V (measured on the camera output with an oscilloscope). See the trace in Figure 9-4 below. 0,1 V/div 10 s/div

NOTE: It is possible to modify the kV automatic regulation window. The factory calibration is set to cause the automatic correction for values 2 kV. To change this setting act on trimmer P4 for N23 camera or trimmer R106 for N33 camera. Please be aware that changing this setting moves the balancing regulation, so it will be necessary to adjust also the setting of trimmer P11 for N23 camera or R79 for N33 camera. Changing this setting can have adverse effects like: image instability due to high gain feedback on kV (if the window is too narrow) different brightness of the same image after automatic regulation (if the window is too wide).

Adjusting the focus 1. Place a fluoroscopy spatial resolution phantom (range from 1 to 5 lp/mm) at the centre of the I.I.. The phantom must be rotated through 30-45 relative to the orthogonal axes. The more commonly used phantoms are: Huttner typ 18 (contained in the Leeds University Test Object set) Nuclear Associates model 07-535 Wellhofer model ETR1 2. Select the maximum I.I. zoom 3. Checking the auto black function 1. Place a copper disk and a lead disk of thickness 0.5 mm side by side at the centre of the I.I. 2. X-ray exposure. Parameters: 70kV, 1.2mA 3. On the monitor, check that the lead disk is shown completely black and that the copper disk is grey. If this is not the case, adjust the monitor brightness and contrast controls, and if necessary correct the kV and/or mA values of the generator 4. Halt the X-ray exposure and remove the lead disk 5. Repeat the exposure with the values set previously 6. Check that the copper disk now appears completely black. If this is not the case, make the adjustments described in paragraph 9.2.4 and 9.2.5.

MAGNETIC FIELD CORRECTION COIL POWER SUPPLY


This adjustment is applicable only to the 16" I.I. for digital applications. Circuit board 58161072 (magnetic field correction board) supplies the power to the geometric distortion correction coil on 16 I.I.s. The circuit board receives an input voltage between 20 and 30Vac and supplies a stabilised output voltage between 0.65 and 2.65 Vdc. The power supply is designed to operate with a load of 3 Ohms and a maximum continuous current of 1A. The positive terminal is on X2.1.

NOTE: The adjustment must be made with the radiological table in the most commonly used position, because the grounds magnetic field causes the distortion to change considerably as a function of the tilting angle of the table.

1. Connect the two conductors from the I.I. on terminal block X2 2. Place a geometry evaluation phantom in front of the I.I. (for example model Wellhofer ETR1) 3. Initiate X-ray exposure and adjust trimmer R2 so as to minimise distortion of the image. If necessary, try inverting the polarity of X2.

ADJUSTING THE HV POWER SUPPLY OF THE I.I.


WARNING: This is a factory setting. Only change this adjustment when replacing the HV power supply on an existing I.I.

WARNING: IMPORTANT PRECAUTIONS The HV power supply board includes HIGH VOLTAGES which can reach 30kV (30.000 Volt). Do not touch any part of the power supply with bare hands or metal objects to avoid the risk of electrical shock. Note that these voltages persist for a few dozen seconds after the power supply has been disconnected. There are no power-on indicators on the I.I. or on the HV power supply board. Therefore, before operating on the I.I. always make sure that the power cable has been physically disconnected.

11.1

Adjustment for Toshiba 9 and 12 I.I.


The trimmers only need to be adjusted if the HV power supply is replaced. In this case, adjust the trimmers to reinstate the voltage values of the old HV power supply (also indicated on the I.I. Inspection sheet attached to the present manual). The calibration sequence is: 1. Verify and eventually tune voltage G3 (image size) and G1 (uniformity of focus and brightness). 2. Tune voltage G2 (focus at the centre). The adjustments must be repeated for the three fields N, M1, M2. The pulse switch to adjust, the adjustment ranges and the test points are the following:

The storage procedure of the tuned values for any voltage is: 1. Once voltage is correctly tuned, turn ON dip switch 1 of the configuration switch. 2. After a few seconds, turn OFF dip switch 1 of the configuration switch.

The only adjustment to the power supply that is necessary is the electrical focus of the image intensifier: 1. Select the required format (N, M1, M2); one of the LEDs (H2 to H6 Figure 11-2) will then light up. 2. Adjust the potentiometer (R3 to R14) next to the illuminated LED until the image is optimally focused. Each format can be focused independently of the others.

Cleaning

WARNING: The cleaning operations described below must be performed exclusively by technical personnel authorised by Villa Sistemi Medicali.

WARNING: before proceeding to clean the equipment, it is essential to disconnect it from the power supply take the utmost care to avoid spilling water or other liquids into the equipment which may cause corrosion or short circuits Clean the painted surfaces using only a moist cloth and neutral detergent, taking care to wipe them afterward with a dry cloth. Do not use solvents (alcohol, petrol, trichloroethylene) or corrosive or abrasive products.

The equipment does not have any parts which come into contact with the patient or the operator, therefore routine cleaning by the operator is not necessary. During examinations with contrast medium, the liquid may leak onto the entrance surface of the I.I.. This condition is readily detected because very evident spotting appears on the image. If this occurs, clean the entrance window with a moist cloth and neutral detergent. The operation must be carried out with great care because the entrance window is coated with a very thin (0.5 mm) aluminium sheet. If the camera or the I.I. are replaced, it is necessary to clean the I.I. output window and/or the camera optics. It is recommended to clean these components using compressed air sprays, soft brushes and disposable lens cleaning tissues. If necessary it is possible to use (lint free) paper tissues moistened with distilled water.

Jumpers setting: The two jumpers X10 and X11 on power supply board A1 connect the zero volt nodes of the I.I. and CCU power supplies, respectively, to ground. Normally, both these jumpers should be closed. However, if the image on the monitor appears banded or noisy, open the jumpers to obtain a condition that minimises noise.
