I couldnt help but notice Uncle Wally Wonders column on repealing Obamacare/ Affordable Health Care. I like to take each reason he gives for repeal and offer my assessment on why we should keep the Affordable Health Care. To stop adding to the U.S. Deficit and debit Reduce military spending to $500 billion dollars which would still be larger than the 2006 budget in 2013 dollars, this according to the CBO. That would leave an additional 300 billion for education, infrastructure, and lowering the debt. To help stop Taxmageddon Not sure exactly what that means, something like Armageddon? Seems somewhat extreme or scary. Again let me quote our dear friend CBO Assuming that H.R. 6079 is enacted near the beginning of fiscal year 2013, CBO and JCT estimate that, on balance, the direct spending and revenue effects of enacting that legislation would cause a net increase in federal budget deficits of $109 billion over the 20132022 period. Specifically, we estimate that H.R. 6079 would reduce direct spending by $890 billion and reduce revenues by $1 trillion between 2013 and 2022, thus adding $109 billion to federal budget deficits over that period. You really dont need a calculator to do the math. Uncle Wally is overacting somewhat on the issue of freedom including religious freedom. At the whitehouse.gov site it specifically said and I quote Contraception coverage will be offered to women by their employers insurance companies directly, with no role for religious employers who oppose contraception. and Religious organizations will not have to provide contraceptive coverage or refer their employees to organizations that provide contraception. The good uncle is concerned about keeping health care decisions between the patients and their doctors. The jury is out on this, some doctors feel like Wally and then there are those that feel that its a good thing. So its a wait and see. How can health care be fiscally unsustainable when its a government program, yet sustainable when it is paid for privately? Word for the day, monopsony. It is like a monopoly, except that in a monopoly the market is dominated by a single seller, and in a monopsony the market is dominated by a single buyer. And you make private health insurance sustainable by bankrupting and/or killing the sickest 5% that account for 50% of health care costs. While I differ with Wally on his views that pertain to the Affordable Health Care Act, I do agree with him that its not the cure all, no pun intended. Id like to see Universal Health Care that works like those in so many other countries in this world. PULLED PORK DINNER Sunday, August 12 from 1-4pm, @ Old Saratoga Reformed Church, corner of Pearl and Burgoyne Streets, Schuylerville, in conjunction with 18th Century Days in the village.
