If working pressure of fluid is 22 N/mm2,then find diameter of plunger operating the table. Now if the permissible stress of cast steel is 110 N/mm2 then find the thickness of steel cylinder in which plunger is operated. 17) A thin cylinder is having a diameter of 550 mm and thickness of 22 mm. If cylinder does not exceed the working pressure of 3 N/mm2 then find hoop stress, longitudinal stress and maximum shear stress. 18) A punch can withstand a safe compressive stress of 310 N/mm2. The axial load is to be resisted up to 80 KN. The working stress is 70 MPa in Tension, Shear stress is 0.8 st and in crushing it is 2 st. Find diameter of rod, diameter and thickness of spigot collar, width and thickness of cotter if thickness of cotter is 0.3 times of rod diameter. 23) The cross section of cast iron machine elements is 60 60 mm2. If the ultimate compressive stress is 800 N/mm2, Calculate the safe load pursuing factor of safety as 6. 24) The diameter of socket collar is twice than its inner diameter. The thickness of cotter is 0.25 times the inner diameter of socket. If the ratio of shearing strength to compressive strength is 2 : 5 then find the collar thickness(width) in term of inner diameter of socket. 25) A steel structure suspension link has maximum load carrying capacity is of 300 KN. If the link thickness of each side is 15 mm then find (a) width of link, (b) diameter of knuckle pin, (c) link width at center of pin. Consider [t] = 120 N/mm2 and [] = 80 N/mm2. 26) A knuckle joint is required to withstand a tensile load of 25 KN. Calculate (a) rod size, (b) dia. of knuckle pin, (c) thickness of eye. Take allowable shear and tensile stresses as 75 N/mm2 & 90 N/mm2 respectively. 27) A triple riveted double cover plated zigzag type butt joint is to be designed for joining two plates of 10 mm thick. Calculate the rivet dia., pitch & efficiency of joint. If [t] = 100 N/mm2, [] = 80 N/mm2, [cr] = 150 N/mm2. 28) A single riveted butt joint is prepared of 12.7 mm thick plates by using two equal cover plates of 9.5 mm thickness. If the rivet dia. is 20.6 mm and pitch is 76.2 mm then find the maximum load. Take ut = 385 N/mm2, u = 308 N/mm2, cr = 665 N/mm2.
