Astrology Awareness Program for The Ayur-vaidyas 2012 Nakshatra In Vedic astrology, the zodiac is also divided into 27 nakshatras. Each nakshatra has a length of 360/27 = 13 20'. The first nakshatra, for example, stretches from the beginning of Aries to 13 20' in Aries. The second nakshatra stretches from there to 26 40' in Aries. The third nakshatra stretches from there to 10 in Taurus. Each nakshatra is again divided into 4 quarters. They are called padas (legs/feet). The length of a nakshatra pada is 3 20'. Panchaanga Panchaanga means one with 5 limbs. Almanacs published in India with planetary positions are traditionally called panchaangas. Along with the planetary positions, they give the start and end times of tithi, vaara, nakshatra, yoga and karana running on each day. These five are the limbs of panchaanga. When we choose a muhurta (an auspicious time for starting a venture), we should choose an auspicious tithi, vaara, nakshatra, yoga and karana. How we interpret a horoscope? There are certain rules pertaining to the planets in Rasi Chakram. Some of the rules are 1) Graha lordship of rasis 2) houses of grahas 3) qualities of grahas 4) Friends and enemies among grahas 5) Power of grahas 6) Karakathva of grahas 7) Subjects of life such as education or marriage is divided among 12 rasis and 9 planets, so the permutation and combination results of those are expressed as reading of a horoscope. What is Prashna Then? Prashnam or query based assessment of possibilities of matters is depended on the planets positions at the time of a query by an individual to an Astrologer. The rules of Jathaka is applicable to Prashna on one side and the other side it has more rules of its own. Lagna or the Ascendent The part of rasi which appears to touch the eastern horizon at a particular time is the lagna at that time. Lagna is the referral point in horoscope. The rasi where the lagna appears is called simply lagna or 1st bhava and other rasis are named second to 12th Bhavas generally, even though there are other considerations too.

Astrology Awareness Program for The Ayur-vaidyas 2012 Dasakalam There are many systems of planetary influential period or Dasa Systems. Vimsothari Dasa is most famous. It calculates the planetary periods by referring to the position of moon in nakshatra out of 27 nakshatras. One Planet for three Nakshathras so that nine planets will cover 27 nakshatras. Depend on the time elapsed in one nakshatra for moon the first dasa kala will also be calculated. Vimsottari means 120. Vimsottari dasa is a dasa system where the total duration of the dasa cycle is 120 years. Dasas of different planets are for different number of years, but the sum of all dasas is 120 years. Important Nature of Rasis and Grahas a) Movable, Fixed and Dual (1) Ar, Cn, Li and Cp are known as chara rasis or movable rasis. They are ruled by Brahma, the Creator. Their nature is to move and to be dynamic. (2) Ta, Le, Sc and Aq are known as sthira rasis or fixed rasis. They are ruled by Shiva, the Destroyer. Their nature is to be stable and constant. (3) Ge, Vi, Sg and Pi are known as dwiswabhava rasis or dual rasis. They are ruled by Vishnu, the Sustainer.3 They are stable sometimes and dynamic sometimes.

(3) Ge, Li and Aq are called vaayu rasis or airy rasis. (4) Cn, Sc and Pi are called jala rasis or watery rasis. (5) The 5th element of aakaasa or ether is present in every rasi. c) Tridosha and rasis Ar, Le and Sg are of pitta nature. Ta, Vi and Cp are of vaata nature. Cn, Sc and Pi are of kapha nature. Ge, Li and Aq are of a mixed nature.

d) Planets and Saptha Dhatus Sapta dhaatus or 7 matters make up human body. The planetary rulerships are as follows: Sun rules bones. Moon rules blood. Mars rules marrow. Mercury rules skin.Jupiter rules fat. Venus rules semen (materials related to the reproductive system). Saturn rules muscles. If Sun is afflicted, it can show some problems related to bones. Weakness of Moon may give blood related problems. And so on.
