behalf of the Council of Standards Australia on 7 March 1994 and on behalf of the
Council of Standards New Zealand on 21 February 1994. It was published on
16 May 1994.

This Joint Standard was prepared by the Joint Australia/New Zealand Standards Committee IT/9,
Information Systems — Vocabulary and Software. It is identical with, and has been reproduced from,
ISO/IEC 10646-1:1993, Information Technology — Universal Multiple-Octet Coded Character Set
(UCS) — Part 1: Architecture and Basic Multilingual Plane.
Under arrangements made between Standards Australia/Standards New Zealand and the international
Standards bodies, ISO and IEC, as well as certain other Standards organizations, users of this Standard
are advised that the number of this Standard is not reproduced on each page; its identity is shown only
on the cover and title pages.
For the purpose of this Standard, the ISO/IEC text should be modified as follows:
