Step by Step
1. Create simple beam using Template
Step 1-1: Start SAP2000 and Select Working Unit Start up screen of SAP2000, select working unit to be Ton-m at drop-down menu on the bottom-right of screen and click on New Model button to start new model with template

2. Define Material
Step 2-1: Change Working Unit Select working unit to be kg, cm, C from second drop-down at right-bottom of screen

Step 2-2: Specify Material Properties for Concrete CONC Go to Define >> Material, select on CONC and click on Modify/Show Material.

Enter material properties as shown in figure below.

3. Define and Assign Beam Section Properties


Step 3-1: Select Beam Click on beam or draw selection rectangular to cover on it.

Step 3-2: Specify Section Dimension Go to Assign >> Frames/Cables/Tendons >> Frame Sections, select Add Rectangular from second drop-down menu and click on Add New Property

Enter section dimension as shown in figure below.

4. Define Load Case


Step 4-1: Add LIVE Load Case Go to Define >> Load Cases and enter LIVE load case as shown in figure below

Click on Add New Load to add LIVE load case in list

5. Define and Assign Tendon


Step 5-1: Draw Tendon Click on Draw Frame/Cable from Line Object Type Element button and select Tendon

Make sure that Point and Grid Intersection button end node

is activated, click on start and

Step 5-2: Define Tendon Profile After draw the tendon on beam, Tendon Data For Line Object3 dialogue will appear, click on Parabolic Calculator button

Step 5-3: Define Parabolic Curve for Tendon Enter Number of Points = 3, click on Quick Start and change Coord 2 on table as shown below.

6. Assign Prestress Load and Tendon Properties


Step 6-1: Select Tendon Click on Set Select Mode button tendon line. to change to selection mode and click on

Step 6-2: Specify Prestress Load and Tendon Properties Go to Assign >> Frame/Cable/Tendon Loads >> Tendon Loads and specify parameters as shown in figure below.

7. Define Load Combination


Step 7-1: Select Tendon Go to Define >> Combinations and click on Add New Combo.

Select Case Name and click on Add to add DEAD, LIVE and PRESTRESS load case to COMB1load combination one by one.

8. Run Analysis
Step 8-1: Set Analysis Options Go to Analyze >> Set Analysis Options and select XZ Plane

Step 8-2: Start Analysis Go to Analyze >> Run Analysis, select MODAL from the list and click on Run/Do Not Run Case to stop MODAL analysis case from running. Click on Run Now

Specify file name and click on Save to save model.
