1. Basic knowledge for creating style data

1-1. Required SMFs (Standard MIDI Files)
In order to create style file, you'll need the following three SMF files.

Table 1.Three SMF files

No. 1. 2. 3. Chord Major Minor 7th SMF File Name ****_m.mid ****_x.mid ****_7.mid

1-2. SMF playback data

The above three files contain the following sixteen types of musical data. INTROs for VARIATIONs 1--4 MAINs for VARIATIONs 1--4 FILLs for VARIATIONs 1--4 ENDINGs for VARIATIONs 1--4

1-3. Using the samples to check the musical data

Using SMF editing software such as SONAR, open the sample_*.mid files located in the Sample folder on the CD-ROM, and take a look at the structure of the following musical data.

2. Editing the SMF

Once you've gained an understanding of the overall SMF structure, as explained in chapter 1, you're ready to begin editing SMF file.

Procedure
1. From the Sample folder on the CD-ROM, copy "sample_*.mid" to the hard disk of your computer. 2. Using SMF editing software such as SONAR, open the "sample_m.mid" that you copied. 3. Measures 24--27 (MAIN for VARIATION 4) of MIDI channel 1 are empty. Go ahead and enter musical data as desired. The musical data you've entered here will be converted into a style musical data on the GW-8. 4. Save the file.
If you use the GW-8 as a MIDI Sound Module, press [SONG] to put the GW-8 in Song mode.

3. Converting SMF into style file

Procedure
1. Start up Style Converter on your computer. 2. Click the File Open (illustration) icon, and open "sample_m.mid" made by the above.

4. Click the Convert (illustration) icon.

5. When the conversion is completed, the style file "sample.stl" and the division file "sample.dv3" will be created in the same folder as "sample_m.mid." 6. Via USB memory, import the style file "sample.stl" into the GW-8.
*For more information, refer to the GW-8 owners manual.
