NATIONAL GRID CORPORATION OF THE PHILIPPINES

News Release 03 August 2012

NGCP nurtures portion of Makiling Forest Reserve As part of its environmental program, the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) has adopted a portion of the Makiling Forest Reserve (MFR). Mount Makiling was classified as the first forest reserve in the country by the Forestry Bureau in 1910. MFR occupies over 4,200 hectares in the upper slopes of Mount Makiling. The University of the Philippines Los Baos (UPLB) manages MFR for its scientific, educational & other values. The Makiling Center for Mountain Ecosystems (MCME), a new unit of the College of Forestry and Natural Resources of UPLB, oversees the programs aimed at protecting, conserving, and developing the MFR. To achieve this objective MCME accepts partners who have expressed interest by way of sponsoring the rehabilitation and restoration of MFR. The Director of MCME, Mr. Nathaniel Bantayan said, MCME is looking for companies with a heart for the environment. We cannot protect MFR alone. NGCP showed support to MCME programs by formally adopting parts of Makiling Forest Reserve. To kick-off the partnership, employees from NGCP and volunteers from other agencies planted 500 trees in Mt. Makiling last July 20. This activity doesnt stop here. This is just the beginning. NGCP is committed to nurture and to maintain what we have started. We have designed a nurturing program that will be implemented until 2015, said Roger De Lara, NGCPs Pollution Control Officer in South Luzon. NGCP is a privately owned corporation in charge of operating, maintaining, and developing the countrys power grid. It transmits high-voltage electricity through power superhighways that include the interconnected system of transmission lines and towers, substations and related assets. NGCPs regular maintenance activities and expansion projects aim to enhance the reliability and quality of electricity delivered to customers. These transmission projects are complemented by environmental protection and preservation activities that benefit the communities where NGCP operates. ### (Photos on the next page)
