Thank you to the parents who came along to our school cross country last Friday afternoon to support the students. We were very lucky to have the sun shining and students competed very well despite a lot of mud to run through. Well done to all students who took part. The top 10 place-getters are listed below. Thank you very much to Hamish & Justine Brown from the Allan Estate for enabling us to use the farm for the students to run through. Your assistance and time given each year is very much appreciated by our school.

School-wide Attendance as of the end of Term 2

We are required by the Ministry of Education to monitor attendance closely, and as you would have seen in the media reducing truancy, is a government goal. At MIS we have set a goal of having 90% attendance for all our students. At the end of Term Two our attendance rates were far exceeding this expectation. Overall attendance is at 94.04%. When we analyse the trends for specific groups the rates also exceed our school goal. Year 7 attendance is 94.14% and Year 8 93.94%. Boys attendance is 93.66% and girls 94.36%. We are required to analyse trends in relation to ethnic groups; NZ European have an attendance rate of 94.08% and Maori is 93.60%. We monitor attendance very closely at Morrinsville Intermediate, including students who are regularly late to school.

The BOT have approved a Teacher Only Day to be held on Monday 13th August for teachers to take part in professional development. This will be the last Teacher Only Day for 2012. Parents / caregivers will need to make alternative arrangements on this dayThank you.

On 24th July MIS entered five teams in the Waikato Gymsport Festival held in Hamilton. This is the first year that MIS have entered extra teams, with 19 competitors. We all had to learn different routines, including floor, vault and beam during lunch and after school, though most of us are members of Piako Gymnastic Club, where we also put in a lot of practice. We were all really nervous when we got there but all the lunch time practices paid off. All our teams were rewarded with fantastic results with several students receiving medals for individual placings. After a very successful day Morrinsville Intermediate was rewarded further with the trophy for 1st Overall school for the day. We would like to thank Kitreece Hickin and Sally Armstrong for all the coaching and time they have put into training us. Thank you to all the parents who provided transport and support on the day. Report by Jordyn Mellow & Ella Wilton.
