The manual mainly describes the software installation methods and procedure of WCDMA NodeB. There are five chapters in the manual. Chapter 2 Installing LMT Software introduces the LMT software installation, including environment, preparations, installation procedures, directories generated, startup and possible problem handling. Chapter 1 Installation Overview

Chapter 1 Installation Overview


1.1 Software to Be Installed
For a new built site, if the software version of a delivered NodeB meets the requirement, the software to be installed on site only includes Local Maintenance Terminal (LMT) software and NodeB data configuration file.

1.1.1 LMT Software


LMT software serves as a tool for NodeB maintenance. It can maintain NodeBs of multiple models (including BTS3812, BTS3806, BTS3806A, and BTS3802C) and versions. LMT software is composed of the following four systems: Operation & Maintenance system (O&M system) Alarm Management System Configuration Management System TraceViewer The four systems are all installed during LMT software installation. You must be on site to install LMT software.

Note: In this manual, the computer on which LMT software is installed is referred to as LMT.

1.1.2 NodeB Data Configuration File


The name of the NodeB data configuration file is NodeBcfg.xml. It defines relations and parameters of NodeB objects, and enables the NodeB to provide required communications service. The data configuration file of each NodeB must be customized according to the reality. You must be on site to install the NodeB data configuration file.

There are two software installation types as follows: Installing Software to a new NodeB through LMT Installing Software to a new NodeB through M2000

Note: As a centralized O&M system, M2000 can maintain multiple NodeBs in the network at the same time. There is no installation instruction of M2000 client program in this manual. For details, refer to iManager M2000 Mobile Element Management System Installation Manual

The following is the operation instructions for the two types of installation.

1.2.1 Installing Software to a New NodeB through LMT


NodeB software and NodeB BootRom software have been installed on NodeB on delivery. If the software version is up to the requirement, it only needs to download NodeB data configuration file and then reset NodeB to complete the software installation. Table 1-1 instructs the software installation at a new NodeB through LMT. Chapter 2 Installing LMT Software


2.1 Overview
This chapter presents the methods and procedure of installing LMT software, including: Installation Environment Installation Preparations Installing LMT software Initially Modifying LMT software Repairing LMT software Removing LMT Software Installing LMT Software of Different Versions Directory of LMT Software Starting Systems of LMT This manual instructs the installation of LMT software step by step. If you encounter any situation not described, just take default settings by clicking <Next> or <OK>. Before installation, make sure that a satisfactory operating system has been installed on the computer. This manual excludes the description of installing operating system.

2.2 Installation Environment


The following describes the hardware, software and communication requirements for LMT software installation.

2.2.1 Hardware Environment


Table 2-1 lists the hardware requirements for the computer on which LMT software is to be installed. 2.2.2 Standard Software Environment


Table 2-2 lists the standard software requirements for the computer on which LMT software is to be installed. Note: It is recommended that the LMT software be installed in a standard operating system. Otherwise, they might not be compatible.

2.2.3 Communication Requirements


The computer needs support TCP/IP protocol.

2.3 Installation Preparations


Before installing the LMT software, be sure to: Obtain the correct setup disk and instruction from Huawei. Obtain the legal serial number of the LMT software. Use the ID of the administrator to log into Windows 2000.

2.4 Installing LMT Software Initially install


Follow the procedure below to install the NodeB LMT software for the first time.

I. Starting Setup.exe
Insert the setup disk in the CD-ROM drive to run the setup.exe automatically. You can also copy the software package to a certain directory in the hard disk, open the folder disk1 and double click Setup.exe to run the program.

II. Choosing Language


After starting the installation program, a [Choose Setup Language] dialog box is displayed, as shown in Figure 2-1.

Figure 2-1 Choosing language Select [English] in the box, and click <OK>. A welcome window is displayed after the program initialization, as shown in Figure 22.

Note: You can click <Next> to go on with the installation or click <Cancel> to quit the program. Because it is the first step, <Back> is not available in the window. In the subsequent steps, the program goes back to the previous when you click <Back>.

III. Accepting License Agreement


A [License Agreement] window is displayed, as shown in Figure 2-3.

Figure 2-3 [License agreement] window Read the license agreement carefully. Click <Yes> to accept it and proceed, or click <No> to refuse it and quit the program.

IV. Reading Installation Guide


An [Information] window is displayed to give the LMT software installation guide, as shown in Figure 2-4.

V. Checking Serial Number


A [Customer Information] dialog box is displayed, as shown in Figure 2-5.

Figure 2-5 [Customer Information] dialog box Enter the user name, company name, and the legal product serial number. Click <Next> to proceed.

Note: The serial number is delivered together with the setup disk. It is saved in Serial.txt. <Next> is dimmed until you have entered the right user name, company name and serial number. The serial number is case sensitive. Be sure to enter the correct serial number. Otherwise, a message "Incorrect Serial No. Please input again!" will be displayed. If you have entered the wrong serial number three times continuously, the installation program will stop automatically.

VI. Choosing Destination Location


A [Choose Destination Location] dialog box is displayed, as shown in Figure 2-6.

Figure 2-6 [Choose Destination Location] dialog box Click <Browse> to choose a destination folder for the LMT software installation or use the default folder. In this manual, the default folder is C:\HWLMT. Click <Next> to proceed.

VII. Choosing Setup Type


A [Setup Type] dialog box is displayed, as shown in Figure 2-7.

To install the components for the versions and models that customer selected. It is recommended for only advanced users. Typical. To install all components. It is recommended for common users. Choose a setup type ([Typical] is recommended) and click <Next> to proceed. After you select [Custom] and click <Next>, a [Select Components] dialog box is displayed, as shown in Figure 2-8.

VIII. Select Program Folder


A [Select Program Folder] dialog box is displayed, as shown in Figure 2-9.

IX. Copying Files


A [Start Copying Files] window is displayed, as shown in Figure 2-10.

Figure 2-10 [Start Copying Files] window Click <Next> after confirming the settings. The program will create a directory and copy files to it. A progress bar is displayed during the copying, showing the copy progress, file type, and file installation path, as shown in Figure 2-11.

X. Completing Installation
Generally, an [Installation Completed] dialog box is displayed, as shown in Figure 212.

If the installation program involves a file locked by the system such as a file being used by the system or a ".dll" file being loaded, an dialog box shown in Figure 2-13 will be displayed at the end of the installation. It prompts you whether to restart the computer now or not. Select Yes, I want to restart my computer now. and click <Finish> to restart the computer to make the setup effect.

2.5 Modifying LMT Software


You can add new program components to the installed LMT software to incorporate more NodeB models and versions under LMT maintenance. Conversely, you can remove existing program components from the installed LMT software to exclude these NodeB models and versions from LMT maintenance. The existing user information and office information will remain after program components modification. The modification procedure is as follows: 1) 2) Click [Start/Programs/Huawei Local Maintenance Terminal/ NodeB V100R003/Uninstall NodeB Operation & Maintenance System]. After the initiation of installation wizard, a [Modifying, repair, or remove the program.] dialog box is displayed, as shown in Figure 2-14.

2.6 Repairing LMT Software


When some files are damaged or deleted in the installed LMT software, you can repair the LMT software. The existing user information and office information will remain after program components repair. 2.7 Removing LMT Software

2.8 Installing LMT Software of Different Versions


If a computer has already been installed with the NodeB LMT software, when install NodeB LMT of another version, the procedure is as follows: 1) Start the setup.exe of the software of another version to display a dialog box in Figure 2-16.

After LMT software is successfully installed, the setup.exe copies the LMT software to a folder you have selected. If you have not selected a destination folder, the program

2.10 Starting Systems of LMT


Start each system of the LMT to check the LMT software installation. Start the Operation & Maintenance System from the [Start] menu. Start Alarm Management System, Configuration Management System, and TraceViewer from the Operation & Maintenance System.

2.10.1 Starting Operation & Maintenance System


Start the Operation & Maintenance System as follows: 1) Click [Start/Programs/Huawei Local Maintenance Terminal/NodeB V100R003/NodeB Operation & Maintenance System] to display a [Login] dialog box as shown in Figure 2-18.

3.1 Overview
The procedure of installing software to a new NodeB through LMT is as follows: Installation Preparations Logging into NodeB through LMT Recording IP Address of Maintenance Channel in Data Configuration File Downloading Data Configuration File to NodeB Resetting NodeB For different NodeB models, the methods and procedure of installing software to a new NodeB through LMT are the same except a few differences in the LMT Operation & Maintenance System interface. This chapter takes BTS3812 as example.

3.2 Installation Preparations


Make the following preparations before installing software to a new NodeB through LMT.

3.2.1 Obtaining software to be downloaded


There are two ways to obtain the software: Copying the software (data configuration file of NodeBcfg.xml) to be installed to a specified directory on the LMT such as C:\Bin Obtaining the software path in the FTP Server

3.2.2 Connecting LMT with NodeB


LMT maintains NodeB in near end O&M mode or far end O&M mode. LMT connects to NodeB in two ways correspondingly, as shown in Table 3-1. Table 3-1 O&M mode of LMT O&M mode Near end O&M LMT-NodeB connection mode The Ethernet port on LMT connects to that on NMPT of NodeB, as shown in Figure 3-1.

3.2.3 Setting LMT IP Address


Note: Microsoft Windows 2000 (SP2) is the product of Microsoft. For detailed introductions, refer to related technical documents for Microsoft Windows 2000 (SP2). All the Microsoft-related corporate names, trademarks and technical documents are proprietary property of Microsoft Corporation.

This section describes how to set the LMT IP address. Take an LMT based on the Windows2000 Professional (SP4) system for example.

Click [Start/Settings/Control Panel] to display a [Network and Dial-up Connection] window. Right click the icon [Local Area Connection]. Click [Properties] in the floating menu to display a [Local Area Connection Properties] dialog box.

Note: If there is no [Internet protocol (TCP/IP)] in the [Local Area Connection Properties] dialog box, click <Install> to install it and then set the LMT IP address.

Select [Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)]. Click <Properties> to display an [Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) Properties] dialog box. Click [Use the following IP address] Enter correct IP address, subnet mask, and default gateway.

Caution: In the case of near end O&M, set the LMT IP address to be in the same network segment as the NMPT Ethernet port IP address. The LMT IP address need be different from the IP addresses of other devices in the same Local Area Network (LAN). The subnet mask is usually 255.255.0.0. If there is no gateway, keep the field [Default Gateway] blank or enter the IP address of the LMT. If there is a gateway, enter the IP address of the gateway.

Click <OK> to complete the setting.

3.3 Logging into NodeB through LMT


In near end O&M modes, LMT must obtain IP address of the NMPT Ethernet port to log into NodeB. Follow the procedure below to log into NodeB: 1) Click [Start/Program/Huawei Local Maintenance Terminal/ NodeB V100R003/NodeB Operation & Maintenance System] to display a [Login] dialog box as shown in Figure 3-2.

Click <OK> in [Office Management] dialog box shown in Figure 3-3 to complete the operation and close the [Office Management] dialog box . Select the office to log into in the box [Office] in the [Login] dialog box shown in Figure 3-2. Enter the user name and password.

Note: When logging into the Operation & Maintenance System for the first time, enter the default user name admin and default password NodeB.

10) Click <OK> to log into the NodeB and start the Operation & Maintenance System.

3.4 Recording IP Address of Maintenance Channel in Data Configuration File


NodeB reset after data configuration file download brings the data in the file into effect. In that case, the NodeB replaces the original IP address with the maintenance channel IP address in the file. If the new IP address is different from the original one, LMT disconnects itself from NodeB. At that time, it is necessary to log into NodeB again with the new IP address. Therefore, it is necessary to retrieve and record the maintenance channel IP address in the data configuration file in the LMT configuration management system before downloading the file. In the near end O&M mode, follow the procedure below to retrieve the maintenance channel IP address in the LMT configuration management system:

Start the Configuration Management System. For details, refer to section 2.10.3 Starting Configuration Management System. Click [File/Open] to display an [Open Configuration File] dialog box. Select the data configuration file you want to open. Click <Open>. Right click the NodeB model (for example, BTS3812) on the top of the [MIT Navigation Tree], as shown in Figure 3-5.

3.5 Downloading Data Configuration File to NodeB


A downloaded data configuration file takes effect only after NodeB reset. Follow the procedure below to download a NodeB data configuration file: 1) Start the O&M system. Double click [Maintenance Navigator\Software Management\Data Configuration File Transfer] to display the [Data Configuration File Transfer] dialog box, as shown in Figure 3-7.

Note: It is suggested to use the built-in FTP Server in the LMT operation and maintenance system. Click beside the [FTP Setting] to modify the FTP Server configuration if necessary. For more details, click <Help>.

Click <Start>. If the operation succeeds: NodeB starts file download and the [Transfer Status] box displays status and progress of file transfer. If the operation fails: NodeB prompts a message box indicating operation failure and listing failure causes. You can handle the fault according to the displayed information. For details, refer to section 5.3 Troubleshooting Data Configuration File Installation Problems.

Note: Clicking <Close> in the dialog box in Figure 3-7 only closes the dialog box but do not stop the download.

3.6 Resetting NodeB


Caution: Resetting NodeB leads to reset of all boards in the NodeB and NodeB reboot.

Follow the procedure below to reset NodeB through MML commands: 1) Enter RST SYS in MML command input box in Operation & Maintenance System as shown in Figure 3-8.

A downloaded data configuration file takes effect after NodeB reset. Consequently, the maintenance channel IP address in the file replaces the original IP address. If the new IP address is different from the original one, LMT disconnects itself from NodeB. In that case, it is necessary to exit from LMT O&M system and log in again. During the login process, add a new office whose IP address is the maintenance channel IP address recorded in section 3.2.4.

4.1 Overview

Obtain the following files to be downloaded before installing software to a new NodeB through M2000 in either method below. Copy the data configuration file of NodeBcfg.xml to a specified directory such as D:\NodeBVer. Obtain the software path in the FTP Server.

4.3 Logging into M2000 Server


For the methods and procedure of logging into M2000 Server, see the Login to System page in M2000 Client Help.

4.4 Uploading Data Configuration File to M2000 Server


Follow the procedure below to upload the data configuration file to M2000 Server:

5.1 Overview

5.2 Troubleshooting LMT Software Installation Problems


To solve the problems accrue in the LMT software installation, follow the instructions below.

5.2.1 General Method


For any installation problem, handle it according to system prompts. When no prompt message is displayed, it is recommended that you quit the program and reinstall the software. When the installed software cannot run normally, it is recommended that you uninstall the software, make sure the installation program is correct and complete, and then reinstall the LMT software.

5.2.2 Typical Examples


This section presents typical problems during LMT software installation and their handling suggestions.

I. An error message is displayed, prompting that conflicting software exists or conflicting program is in service.
Cause: Upon the program initialization, the program detects that conflicting software exists or conflicting program is in service. Handling suggestion: Remove the conflicting software or quit the conflicting program as prompted. Reinstall the LMT software.

II. The program does not respond during the installation.


Cause: It usually happens when the system is busy.

Handling suggestion: Press <Ctrl> + <Alt> + <Delete> to quit the installation and end the tasks without response. Restart the setup.exe. If the keyboard does not respond, restart your computer and reinstall the LMT software.

5.3 Troubleshooting Software Installation Problems though LMT


To solve the problems accrue in the software installation at a new NodeB through LMT, follow the instructions below.

5.3.1 General Method


During the installation, keep track of the information displayed in LMT O&M output window while observing board indicators status. In most cases, the system prompts a message box indicating operation failure and giving failure causes. You can handle the fault according to the failure causes. Follow the procedure below to troubleshoot installation problems: 1)

Check whether input command parameters (including source path and source file name) are correct.
If so, go to next step. If not, modify the parameters and perform the operation once again.

2)

Check whether the download path (including physical connection and board status on the download path) is correct.
If so, go to next step. If not, refer to Troubleshoot manual and Alarm Online Help and troubleshoot the problem. Perform the operation once again.

3)

Check whether the settings of DIP switches and jumpers on boards and backplanes are correct.
If so, go to next step. If not, refer to Board Manual and Installation Manual and set the DIP switches and jumpers again. Perform the operation once again.

4)

Replace the board with a new one. Check whether the operation succeeds.
If so, the board is faulty. Replace the board. If not, go to next step.

5)

If there is no standby slot, contact Huawei technical support engineers. Otherwise, install the original board into the standby slot and check whether the operation succeeds.

If so, the original slot is faulty. Change the board slot. If not, contact Huawei technical support engineers.

5.3.2 Typical Examples


This section presents typical problems during software installation at a new NodeB through LMT and their handling suggestions.

I. Promting "Failed to open the file in the FTP server"


Possible cause: The file or directory on the FTP Server does not exist during file downloading, or the file of the same name on the FTP Server is read-only during file uploading. Handling suggestion: Make sure the files to be downloaded exist on the FTP Server and the file names meet the naming convention before file downloading. Make sure the destination file on the FTP Server is writable before file uploading.

Caution: Do not change the file name of the data configuration file, NodeB software package, BootRom and so on. Otherwise, the system cannot identify them.

II. Prompting "Failed to read the file in the FTP server"


Possible cause: FTP Server failure occurs during file downloading. Handling suggestion: Restart the FTP Server and download the file again.

III. Prompting "Failed to write the file in the FTP server"


Possible cause: Error occurs when the system writes the file into the CF card or Flash Memory, or there is no enough free space for the file during file writing. Handling suggestion: Contact Huawei technical support engineers.

IV. Prompting "Operating file failed"


Possible cause: File operations such as creating files or directory or removing files in the CF card or Flash Memory in the NodeB fail. Handling suggestion: Contact Huawei technical support engineers.

V. Prompting "The free space is not enough"


Possible cause: The size of the file to be downloaded is larger than the free space in the CF card or Flash Memory of the NodeB. Handling suggestion: Contact Huawei technical support engineers.

VI. Prompting "Connecting to FTP server failed"


Possible cause: The FTP Server is not started, the entered IP address of the FTP Server is wrong, the network communication to the FTP Server is faulty or the NMPT is working abnormally. Handling suggestion: Check whether the FTP Server has been started. Check the entered FTP Server user name and password. Check the authority setting. If the FTP Server is not faulty, ping the IP address of the NMPT. If the IP cannot be pinged, check whether the network adapter and the network cable are normal. If they are faulty, replace them. Otherwise, check whether the NMPT is normal. If no, clear the fault and implement the download again.

VII. Prompting "Logging into FTP server failed"


Possible cause: The user name or password used to log into the FTP Server is wrong. Handling suggestion: Use the correct user name and password to log into the FTP Server. If the FTP Server is built in the LMT Operation & Maintenance System, set the FTP Server user name and password by clicking [System/System Configuration] in the Operation & Maintenance System.

VIII. Prompting "Illegal parameter values"


Possible cause: The file name or directory name entered is invalid. For example, the file name is longer than 200 bytes, contains character such as *, ", ?, <, >", |, \, / and : or totally blanks. Handling suggestion: Name the software to be downloaded according to the naming rule, and then download the file again. Do not change the names of these files.

IX. Prompting "System busy"


Possible cause: The NodeB is downloading or uploading files or activating file versions.

Chapter 5 Troubleshooting

Handling suggestion: The NodeB will automatically carry out this command after it finishes the previous task. Do not keep running the command after the system displays such a message.

X. Prompting Broken resume expired


Possible cause: The communication between the Operation & Maintenance System and NodeB has been interrupted for more than one day. Therefore, the NodeB stops resuming the file transmission at the broken point. Handling suggestion: Download the file again.

XI. Prompting "The source file you want to re-download from the break point does not match"
Possible cause: The original file on the FTP Server is changed during the procedure of resuming file transmission at broken point. Handling suggestion: Download the file again.
