Career Oppurtunities For Mechanical Engineer

Mechanical engineers are affianced in investigating, enlarging, designing, manufacturing, and testing mechanical devices like tools, engines, machines, etc. They work on developing both power producing as well as power using machines. Examples of powerproducing machines are electric generators, internal combustion engines, and steam and gas turbines. Examples of power-using machines are refrigerators and air-conditioning equipment, machine tools, material handling systems, elevators and escalators, industrial production equipment, and robots used in the production process. Mechanical engineers are also involved in designing tools and gear that other engineers require for their work. Mechanical engineering provides a wide varity of careers. One of this is practicing basic engineering which involves different areas of specialty. One example is fluid engineering. There are mechanics involved in anything that flows air, water, sand, oil, etc.Fluids engineers design and build systems that control or utilize flow, such as pumps, turbines, compressors, valves, pipelines and fluid systems in vehicles. It involved in all areas of fluid mechanics, encompassing both fundamental as well as applications, to all types of devices, processes and machines involving fluid flow, including pumps, turbines, compressors, pipelines, fluidic systems, biological fluid elements and hydraulic structures. Another one is Bioengineering. Nearly every part of the human body may be described in mechanical terms. Bioengineering deals with artificial organs, biomechanics, biomaterials, bio-instrumentation, biotransport processes, human factors, medical devices, biomedical modeling and biological systems. Bioengineers are concerned with the application of engineering sciences, methods, and techniques to problems in medicine and biology. Bioengineering encompasses two closely related fields of interest: the application of engineering sciences to understand how animals and plants function; and the application of engineering technologies to design and develop new devices, including diagnostic or therapeutic instrumentation, or the formulation of synthetic biomaterials, the design of artificial tissues and organs, and the development of new drug delivery systems. Next is applied mechanics. Applied Mechanics looks at shock and vibration, dynamics and motion, and fracture and failure in components. Applied mechanics examines the response of bodies or systems of bodies to external forces. Some examples of mechanical systems include the flow of a liquid under pressure, the fracture of a solid from an applied force, or the vibration of an ear in response to sound. Another specialty of a mechanical engineers are in the field of heat transfer. The field of heat transfer deals with combustion, power generation and transmission systems, process equipment, electronic devices, thermal controls in manufacturing, environmental controls, biotechnology, aerospace applications,

transportation equipment and even cryogenics. Conduction is heat transfer by means of molecular agitation within a material without any motion of the material as a whole. If one end of a metal rod is at a higher temperature, then energy will be transferred down the rod toward the colder end because the higher speed particles will collide with the slower ones with a net transfer of energy to the slower ones. Another field is working on atlternative energy sources. One is working as a solar engineering. Solar energy is an alternative energy source that involves harnessing the radiant light energyemitted by the sun and converting it into electrical current. Since the middle of the 20th century, the ability to harness and utilize solar energy has greatly increased, making it possible for homes and businesses to make use of the renewal energy source rather than rely on more conventional means of generating power. Research into the applications of solar energycontinue, along with the development of more cost-effective ways to capture and store theenergy for future use. Mechanical engineers develop solar energy collectors and new and innovative ways to utilize solar energy. Another one is working as a nuclear engineer. The sun and stars are seemingly inexhaustible sources of energy. That energy is the result of nuclear reactions, in which matter is converted to energy. We have been able to harness that mechanism and regularly use it to generate power. Presently, nuclear energy provides for approximately 16% of the world's electricity. Unlike the stars, the nuclear reactors that we have today work on the principle of nuclear fission. Scientists are working like madmen to make fusion reactors which have the potential of providing more energy with fewer disadvantages than fission reactors. Mechanical engineers may design and develop nuclear reactors and components, such as heat exchangers, radioactive waste systems and new fuel technologies. One that is more suitable for mechanical engineers here in the philippines is working as a Ocean, Offshore & Arctic Engineering. Much of our energy sources already comes from offshore sources. Mechanical engineers design and build ocean structures, systems, hyperbaric chambers, life support equipment, marine vehicles, submersibles and ROV's, propulsion systems, remote sensing systems, moorings and buoys, ship structures and ocean mining equipment. As a mechanical engineers we are also expected to work with the machine we encounter in our daily basis that includes cars and other forms of transportation. etting from one place to another is something that affects every person every day of their lives. Mechanical engineers work to move us and our goods quickly and more efficiently. In addition, the effect that transportation, and other factors, have on the environment is something that concerns us all. One famous is working as an Aeronautical engineer. branch of engineering behind the design, construction and science of aircraft and spacecraft, but it goes much further than that. Aerospace engineers are the people that propel us into the future of technology and design. They are the thinkers, the creators, and the problem solvers of the 21st century space exploration. Mechanical engineers design propulsion engines and structural component systems, crew and passenger accommodations and life support systems. They also develop the equipment used to build automotive, aircraft, marine and space vehicles. Another one is in the

field of automotives. Automotive engineers are involved in the design, manufacture and operation of ground-based vehicles, such as motorcycles, automobiles, buses and trucks and their respective engineering subsystems. Automotive engineers need to have a combination of engineering and commercial skills in order to deliver projects within budget. Once established, they usually specialise in a particular area, for example structural design, exhaust systems or engines. Railtransportaion is another field in which mechanical engineers can become handy. Rail transport is the process of conveying or transporting people, livestock, and general goods using a vehicle mounted onto a rail system. The most common form of rail transport is generally known as a railroad or railway. One of the older forms of conveyance, railtransportation for freight and people, continues to be a viable and reliable form of moving from a point of origin to a destination in todays world. Mechanical engineers design, build and maintain rail systems which help move people and goods every day. New developments are being applied to develop a new generation of locomotives for freight, passenger and transit services. Systems and designs are another field of work for mechanical engineers. Most mechanical engineers work in the design and control of mechanical, electromechanical and fluid power systems. Design engineers take into account a truly wide number of factors in the course of their work, such as: product performance, cost, safety, manufacturability, serviceability, human factors, aesthetic appearance, durability, reliability, environmental impact and recyclability. This field include dynamic system and controls. Dynamic systems need to be controlled. Typical applications of DSC include novel transducer designs, biomechanics at the cellular and human scale, dynamics and control of power and vehicle systems, and innovations in signal and information theory. These engineers are needed in a vast number of areas aerospace and transportation, biomedical equipment, production machinery, energy and fluid power systems, expert systems and environmental systems. Another one that is new to the ear is the Microelectromechanical Systems. Microelectromechanical systems combine computers with tiny mechanical devices such as sensors, valves, gears and actuators embedded in semiconductor chips. Mechanical engineers are needed for the design and development of these high-tech devices. Mechanical engineers can work in variety of environment and different types of fields this makes mechanical engineering a very flexible program to take specially nowadays where technology advances faster than the blink of an eye.
