First Grade Technology Enrichment Internet Safety-Voicethread Presentation

Objectives: Students will learn what private information is create a presentation using Voicethread as class that demonstrates knowledge of what is and what is not private information Middleton-Cross Plains Area School District Technology Standards: G.2.2. Use information, media and technology in a responsible manner Recognize the need for privacy of personal information. ISTE NETS: 2. Communication and Collaboration Students use digital media and environments to communicate and work collaboratively, including at a distance, to support individual learning and contribute to the learning of others. Students: a. interact, collaborate, and publish with peers, experts, or others employing a variety of digital environments and media. b. communicate information and ideas effectively to multiple audiences using a variety of media and formats. d. contribute to project teams to produce original works or solve problems. 5. Students understand human, cultural, and societal issues related to technology and practice legal and ethical behavior. Students: a. advocate and practice safe, legal, and responsible use of information and technology. d. exhibit leadership for digital citizenship. Materials: - Voicethread account - Computer drawing program or crayons, pencils and paper and a scanner - Faux Paw video from: iKeepSafe.org - Voicethread rubric Introduce 1. Have students sit in designated area. 2. Ask them what to do when you meet a stranger in real life. (Take responses) 3. Explain to them the rules for keeping safe online: 1. I Keep Safe my personal information- all of it!

I never give out my real name or any of my family or friends names, address, phone number, the name of my school, or a picture of myself to anyone online. 2. I Keep Away from Internet strangers no matter what they tell me, because I have no way of knowing who they really are. I dont talk with them online, and I never meet them face to face. 3. Have students decide one piece of information that either is okay or not okay to give to strangers online or in person. Have them construct a sentence using that piece of information: For example: I will not give my phone number to anyone I meet on the Internet. Have each student find an image to go with their sentence and download it. If anything you see on the computer makes you feel uncomfortable, run and tell a parent or teacher.
