AARON MACAPAGAL Project Manager DESIGN CRITERIA & BUDGETARY ESTIMATE OF THE EXISTING CITIBANK TOWER

Thru:

Subject:

Gentlemen: Last Thursday (Feb. 18, 2010), we conducted a site survey of the above mentioned building and we are submitting this design criteria based on the existing site conditions as follows; 1. The existing building shall be classified as Light Hazard under NFPA 13 Codes and Standards. Area per floor is 1,180 m2. 2. The domestic water tank located at basement level with a capacity of 180,000 gallons can be tapped for fire protection use. Minimum demand requirement as per classification above using a 500 GPM Fire Pump for a duration of 60 minutes is 30,000 gallons. This is roughly 17 percent reserve of the capacity of the domestic water tank. 3. For the fire pump, two schemes can be adapted for consideration of Owner, as follows; a. SCHEME 1 (Value Engineering) - There are two (2) existing domestic centrifugal pumps located near the domestic water tank, rated 250 GPM @ 365 ft. TDH (158 psi). These pumps can be connected in a parallel configuration to produce the required flow for fire protection use. The pressure (158 psi) is more than enough to produce 7 psi (as minimum requirement as per NFPA 13) to reach the remotest sprinkler head. The pumps shall be supplied with 2 NFPA approved controllers and piping arrangements shall also be configure for fire protection system. Owner shall also provide a 30 GPM @ 365 ft. TDH jockey

pump to continually maintain the required pressure of the sprinkler system. b. SCHEME 2 Provision of new UL/FM approved fire pump rated 500 GPM @ 158 psi and 30 GPM @ 158 psi, complete with UL/FM controller & accessories. Location of these pumps shall be located also preferably at basement level near the domestic tanks. This scheme is more expensive and would cost the Owner more than Scheme 1 above. 4. There are two (2) existing risers located at each fire escape stairs feeding existing fire hose cabinets (FHC) at each floor. These risers are currently connected to the domestic main water supply line. We propose that one riser shall serve as Wet Standpipe for sprinkler system and the other riser as Dry Standpipe for Fire Department Personnel use. The following design criteria shall comprise as minimum requirement in designing the sprinkler system; 1. The sprinkler discharge areas shall be based on the hydraulically most remote 139 square meter areas as defined in NFPA 13. 2. Other areas of the building which are light hazard such as offices, hallways, lobbies, stairs and toilets shall be designed based on Light Hazard Classifications with a minimum design density of 6.10 LPM per Sq. M. as per requirement of the fire code. 3. Friction losses: Calculate losses in piping in accordance with William-Hazen formula C value of 120 for steel piping. 4. Hydraulic Calculations shall include an allowance of 50 GPM water for the required internal fire hose stations installation. 5. Fire Department connection accessible at the ground floor level with necessary piping connection to the wet-pipe sprinkler risers shall be provided for each building. 6. Remote inspectors test connections with sight glass shall be provided at the most remote branch line pipe with drain connection and another at the floor control valve near the sprinkler riser as required. 7. The tenant units which do not have drop ceiling shall be provided with standard sidewall type sprinklers, with k-factor of 5.6 to room with across wall dimension of not more than 4.5 meters. For rooms with across wall dimension of more than 4.5 meters but not longer than 7.3 meters shall be provided with extended coverage sidewall type sprinklers with k factor of 8. 8. For rooms with non-combustible drop ceiling, the sprinklers can be installed at the middle of the room using recessed pendent type chrome sprinkler with chrome ceiling plate. Ceiling space sprinkler protection is not required.

9. For rooms with combustible drop ceiling with dimension of less than 6 inches from concrete ceiling slab, recessed pendent type sprinklers shall be provided below drop ceiling. If combustible plywood drop ceiling is more than 6 inches from the concrete slab ceiling, additional upright type sprinklers shall be required to protect ceiling space. 10. For toilets with combustible ceiling and the floor area is less than 4.5 sq. meters, sprinkler shall not be required above ceiling, but sprinklers shall be provided below drop ceiling. 11. For big open areas and commercial areas with few partition walls, we will use the very extra large sprinkler heads with a K-factor of 11.5 to 14.5 ( which has coverage equivalent to four standard sprinklers). 12. With the application of extended coverage sidewall sprinklers and very extra large pendent sprinkler heads, there will be some significant savings in the installation of the sprinkler fire protection system. 13. There shall be internal 38mm dia. Fire hose stations with sufficient hose length to cover the entire floor areas of the building. Each hose station shall be equipped with 4.5Kg. class ABC dry powder chemical type portable fire extinguishers UL/FM LISTED. 14. Additional portable fire extinguishers shall be required for the Tenant (which shall be supplied and installed by the Tenants themselves), for common areas, elevator machine room and electrical rooms, the Developer normally supply the requirements. The extinguishers shall be shown on the plans. However, the Local Fire Department personnel in most cases requires more than what is actually required by the fire code. 15. MATERIALS: 1. Sprinkler Heads - Imported, and UL/FM listed and approved equipment brand for fire use only. A. For the Guidelines of Contractors, the brands that are acceptable are the following: 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. TYCO Automatic Sprinkler Corp. of America Viking Reliable (Other brand UL/FM listed approved Sprinkler heads shall also be considered subject for approval by the Owner and the Engineer as to the type of finishes. Only one brand of sprinkler head shall be utilized in the building).

6. The temperature rating and type of sprinklers shall be approved by the Fire Protection Engineer. 7. Pipe Black iron pipe schedule 40 ASTM A-53 welded or seamless (threaded or flanged type connections).

8. Black iron pipe schedule 80 (for cut groove pipe, particularly for sprinkler risers and feed main pipe). 9. Fittings (assorted) - Imported, or local equivalent 10. Valves - Imported UL/FM listed and approved B. All of the above sprinkler equipment and fire pumps shall be sets to automatic operation, when systems are completed. The Budgetary Estimate Table below should guide the Owner on how much it would cost to retrofit and or install the sprinkler system based on the schemes mentioned above, as follows;
