the book, Ang Pantas, a translation by Ruth Elynia Mabanglo of Khalil Gibrans The Prophet, last August 3 at the C&Es Information Resource Center in Quezon City. The 27 chapters of poetic essays narrate Almustafas farewell to the people of Orphalese with whom he lived for 12 years. Gibrans profound philosophy is echoed in Almustafas revelations that cover everything about lifelove, crime and punishment, time, religion, and death among othersall that is between birth and death, cradle and grave. Interspersed in the text are illustrations of Thirteen Artists Awardee Edgar Talusan Fernandez. Fernandez, who uses art in advocating social consciousness and nationalism, heads the Committee on Visual Arts of the National Commission for Culture and the Arts. Mabanglo, who holds the distinction as the first Filipina whose poetry collection in Filipino saw print, teaches at the University of Hawaii at Manoa. She was

LSIG tackles disaster risk reduction education and research

on Disaster Risk Reduction through Education and Research last June 21. Co-sponsored by the Yuchengco Center, the forum was held to identify capacity gaps and relevant research and education programs. In support of the implementation of the Philippine Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (DRRM) Act of 2010, the discussion focused on the strategic role of DLSU in developing capacity building programs for national and local government units together with partner stakeholders on disaster risk reduction. Various organizations such as the Asia Foundation, International Committee of the Red Cross Philippines, and Oxfam Philippines also participated in the roundtable discussion.

Enhancing communication tools in academe and industry
Dr. Paolo Nino Valdez, external affairs director of the DLSU College of Education, took part in the project in coordination with De La Salle University - Dasmarinas Language Learning Center (LLC). The output from the activity will be incorporated in LLC programs for uplifting English proficiency among DLSU-D graduates. Other Philippine institutions involved in the project are UP Los Banos, UP Visayas, Cavite State University, and Bulacan State University. The other ASEAN countries involved in this endeavor are Indonesia and Vietnam. Professional Learning Community (PLC) session for the year to exchange teaching methods and techniques. Entitled Straying from the Yellow Brick Road: Strategies for Teachers of Art and Literature, the event was animated by the spirit of innovation in the development and delivery of lessons. The participants tackled strategies that were proven effective in the general education courses administered by the Department, which are Humanities: Introduction to Literature (HUMALIT), Humanities: Introduction to Art (HUMAART), and Great Works (GREATWK). The program was created in response to the growing demand for highly-skilled professional digital marketers both in the Philippines and abroad. Digital Marketing (CDM) Program, in partnership with the Internet and Mobile Marketing Association of the Philippines (IMMAP) and Blue Blade Technologies / eLearning Edge, Inc. CDM courses feature classroom sessions, online course lectures, individual and/ or group exercises and projects, and webinars featuring renowned marketing practitioners. She will conduct a trip to Mindanao to look for cinnamon edanoi, a plant species found in Maria Cristina Falls. She will Marketing, Click! Online Advertising, Social Media Marketing, E-Commerce, Effective Email Marketing, Mobile: Marketing on the Go!, e-Ethics: Digital Marketing Rulebook, E-CRM, and Marketing 360: Integrated Marketing Communications. Agoo is a researcher on the field of Plant Systematics. This study involves the investigation, identification, and classification of plants. This is also known as fingerprinting various plants to benefit future studies of researchers and students. It likewise aids in the prevention of plant smuggling, which endangers certain plants species.
