Conference Announcement Business Applications of Social Network Analysis (BASNA) 2012 3rd International Workshop 26 August 2012 Istanbul, Turkey more details Selected authors will be invited to elaborate on their research topic and submit the results to the journal

In recent years, social network research has advanced significantly with the rapid development of online social websites and instant messaging systems. People increasingly perceive the Web as a social medium that fosters interaction among people, sharing of experiences and knowledge, group activities, community formation and evolution. IJSNM addresses important aspects of interest to practitioners and researchers with a specific focus on the emerging trends and industry needs associated with using data mining techniques for social networking analysis. The journal solicits experimental and theoretical work on social network analysis using data mining techniques, including:

data mining advances in: o the analysis of social networks structures o the discovery and analysis of communities o personalisation for solitary activities (such as search) and social activities (such as discovery of potential friends) o the analysis of user behaviour in open forums (such as conventional sites, blogs and forums) and o commercial platforms (such as e-auctions) and on the associated security and privacy-preservation challenges social network modelling scalable, customisable social network infrastructure construction dynamic growth and evolution, and pattern identification and discovery using machine learning approaches or multi-agent based simulation

Papers should elaborate on data mining or related methods, and issues associated to data preparation and pattern interpretation, both for conventional data (usage logs, query logs, document collections) and for multimedia data (automatic indexing of images, video, and sound). Objectives

The objective of IJSNM is to establish an effective channel of communication between policy makers, intelligence agencies, law enforcement, academic and research institutions and persons concerned with the complex role of social network mining in society. Readership IJSNM provides a vehicle to help professionals, intelligence agencies, academics, researchers and policy makers working in the fields of knowledge management, engineering and business education to disseminate information and to learn from each other's work. Contents IJSNM publishes original papers, review papers, case studies, occasional technical reports, conference reports and book reviews. Special Issues devoted to important topics in knowledge management, social network analysis, information visualisation, music information retrieval and link analysis will occasionally be published. Subject Coverage The topics to be covered by IJSNM include but are not limited to:

Discovery of influential members in social networks Discovery of implicit relationships in social networks Discovering implicit social graphs Detecting misbehaviour in web communities Detecting popular emerging events in social communities Compressing large social networks for analysis Mining social interactions for viral marketing Data preparation and pre-processing for mining of large social networks Detecting drift and evolution in web communities Community discovery in social networks Trend prediction in evolving social networks Discovering temporal patterns in social networks Mining stream data in evolving social networks Contextual social network analysis High performing algorithms for social network mining Graph search algorithms on social networks Multi-agent based social network modelling and analysis Data mining for security in social networks Data mining in mobile social networks Real-time mining of social networks Data mining for malware analysis in social networks Data mining and in semantic web platforms for the social web Mining semantic web data from social software applications Scalability in mining social networks Data mining and knowledge discovery in natural languages for social networks Social recommender systems Personalization for search and social interaction
