How to cope with grief and loss of the latest casualties? How to deal with shock and fear in the face of conflict? The role of military chaplain is a challenging one, providing spiritual care, a sympathetic ear or simple words of comfort for those serving in situations of combat in countries around the world. Although military chaplains are highly valued and still much in demand, there is now a severe shortage of priests willing to take on this demanding task - that's according to the Catholic Bishop of the Forces in Great Britain, Richard Moth, who recently appealed for prayers for new vocations to the military chaplaincy. CATHOLICS ASKED TO RING BELLS AND PRAY FOR THE GAMES': The Christian community across the country are being encouraged to pray and make a noise and join in the nationwide mass bell ringing planned for the first day of the 2012 Games. To mark the opening of the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games, the London Organising Committee is calling for th thousands of bells to be rung across our nations. The extensive bell ringing on Friday 27 July will begin at 08:12am and is asked to last for 3 minutes. LOCOG are encouraging the tolling of "any bell, anyone, anytime" (www.allthebells.com). It is seen as an opportunity for everyone to get involved in a special commission by the Turner Prize-winning artist and musician Martin Creed. The churches' Games' charity More Than Gold, of which the Catholic Church plays a major role, is calling on Christians and churches everywhere to join in and use this moment to th stop and pray at 8.12am on Friday 27 July and to pray for God's kingdom to come and for this to be a turning point across our nation. MASS TIMES CHANGE: We regret that the times of Masses have to be changed to ensure that one priest can cope. This is due to the shortage of priests, to cover for sickness, holidays, and on-going formation, etc. At a meeting of parish representatives from Yeovil and South Petherton th on Thursday, 12 July, the following Mass times were put forward as reasonable proposals: YEOVI: Saturday Vigil Mass 6.00pm, Sunday 10.00am and 11.30am. SOUTH PETHERTON: Sunday 8.30am.
