Web Portal proposal for FGGC Gboko

Project Background
The number of students that passes through our colleges grow as every year new sets of students is admitted thus giving rise to the question, how easily can the past and present students be administered effectively. While the staffs of our colleges need more time to effectively carry out their jobs the students are eager to learn and thus needs a fewer amount of time in carrying out activities related to class work outside the classroom. Electronically handling some of this processes would increasingly save both staffs and students time. Modern technology has made the idea of a student maintaining a lifetime relationship with a school become a reality through their web portal. Portal is a term generally synonymous with gateway, for a World Wide Web site that is or proposes to be a major starting site for users when they get connected to the Web or that users tend to visit as an anchor site.

Why use a Portal?

1. Encompassing sense of membership This helps the students to have a sense of belonging among their peers and also to the school. It makes them to be able to still keep in touch with the recent happenings and development in the school regardless of their current location. It makes it easier for them to also keep in touch with their alumni association actively. 2. Central database into School resources The school will be able to have the data base of every student which will only be a CLICK away. This will be able to tell which student belongs to a particular class, arm, house etc. for easy identification (profiling). It solves the issue of unavailability of a particular book in the library as all students would have access to an E-LIBRARY which they can use to access whichever book they need at any given time. 3. Increased efficiency It reduces the turnaround time of the students data capture. It reduces the paper cost incurred by the school. Easy archiving, Easy profiling, students can also have access to the school library when working on holiday assignments which can be given to them via the portal. Student can also have access to their housemaster/housemistress and even their principal within a stipulated time frame where they can actually share their views with them. 4. Publish information campus-wide Students and Teachers will be able to get first-hand information, change in procedures, outcomes of meetings etc. with ease. Students/Wards and Parents/Guardians will be able to have access to genuinely uploaded results of students which will be uploaded only on the students confidential page and to any other party that should have access to such information. 5. Single log-in Students will be able to know all about the recent happenings of the school with their individual username and password. 6. Connection for Schools Alumni The schools Alumni will always be in touch and also will increase the interest of students to function actively as an alumnus to a particular school. 7. Instantaneous research Research can be made via the portal by any student or teacher on any educational news, political news, science news, financial news etc. to keep students and teachers well informed about the ongoing happenings in the country and the rest of the world. 8. Access for perspective students, teachers, and government officials Easy access for students, teachers and government officials who are deemed fit to have such access.

Registration data to be automatically entered into Student database. Students would be able to create learning groups On-line. Support Students Year Book Blogging System Photo Gallery One on One chats Students will be able to lodge in complains to teachers and the principal School will be able to keep track of students record Principal gets first-hand confidential information from the students.

Web Development
The portal will be developed using .NET technologies (aspx and ascx) incorporating Ajax to simplify all search capabilities of the portal. The development will be completed within a time frame of 4weeks after receiving the relevant materials from FGGC Gboko.

The school shall be responsible for providing contents and its approval for the portal.
