0 Introduction

1.1 Background

In University Malaysia Pahang (UMP) internet is one of the important facilities to students. In UMPs hostel students can get internet services from their room. In Kolej Kediaman 1(KK1) and Kolej Kediaman 3(KK3) UMP management provide wired(LAN cable) and wireless connection for student use the internet. At KK2 student only have wired connection. With this connection type students can easily use the internet anytime. However there are some problems for students during them use the internet at the hostel. Firstly it is because of the slow connection. Some times it takes half an hour or more to open an internet page. So it gives interruption to student when they want find the information on the internet. It very wasting their time because students always use the internet to do their assignment and they face the same problem each time to surf the internet. Another factor is because the instability of the connection. The connection will be halted for a moment and then after several times its back working again. When connection halted for a moment, the website student surf will stop and they need to refresh the website and wait again until loading complete. Beside that, what they download at the moment also will stop and need to download again. It very interrupt student while they do their work and waste their energy and time. Therefore this research is important as we hope to solve this internet connection problem which is beneficial for all the students in UMP.

1.2 Research Objectives The objectives of our study are: a) To find out the advantages and disadvantages of internet connection in UMP hostel. b) To define the best possible solution for this problem.

1.3 Research Question a) What the advantages and disadvantages of current internet connection in UMP hostel? b) What is the best possible solution for this problem?

1.4 Definitions of Key Terms: Internet - Internet is the name given to millions of computers around the world that are connected to one another so that people who use them can share information.Each computer connected via the Internet can send information to or receive information from any other computer no matter where the computer is located - across the room, across town, or around the world. The contional performance of a single task reduces a man to the level

1.5 Organizations of the report:

For the whole report, it consists five chapters. In chapter one, we discuss about the introduction of our research. It includes background of the research, research objective, research question and definition of term. Then in chapter two we discuss about literature review. For chapter 3 we explain about research methodology that contains setting, data collection and data analysis. The result from the research will show in the result and discussion at chapter four. The last chapter will discuss summary of our research that has been done.

1.6 Literatur review: According to the survey that we research about internet performance at hostel in University Malaysia Pahang. The meaning of internet is connected between one to another people with network usage so that people who use them can share information. Each computer connected via the internet can send information to or receive information from any other computer no matter where the computer is located across the room, across town, or around the world. While performance is the action of process of carrying out or accomplishing an action, task, or function.

Firstly, the main problem that the student will face it is internet connection is very slow. Omotay B.O(2006). It make difficult to student to find the information. They need take more

time to open the internet page one by one. Because of this, they got difficult to do their work.

Truly, internet connection give more advantage to ourselves. Yen D.C & Chou D.C(2001). If connection is okay, student can get search information easy. Then, student can keep in touch with others friend. As we know, student can communicate with other people and not only to focus to their study. It must be balanced it with their life. Many students not comprise of rich set. There is also those unable to buy book and through the internet, they can get more reading material. This case proven that internet give goodness

Beside that, there has some suggestion to overcome internet connection speed problem. For the solution of this matter that we should increased the bandwidth to solve this problem of slow connectivity. Kaur A & Manhas R(2008) .If this problem can solve student can easily surf the internet without interruption.

The other solution is capacity of servers should be increased and firewalls should be installed for protection from viruses. Kaur A & Manhas R(2008) It will increase data transmission rate of speed. I

Allotted time of Internet service should be increased and if possible, the service should be made available round the clock so that users can make maximum use of the Internet facility. Kaur A & Manhas R(2008).Of course not denying, student ump always use internet to do range of matters. For example, in finding material at making assignment, chatting, read online

newspaper and so on. Normally, student ump surf the internet nocturnally because performance internet nocturnally was much better compared in other times. 3.0 Research Methodology

3.1 Setting A research will be held only in Kolej Kediaman 1, Kolej Kediaman 2 and Kolej Kediaman 3 University Malaysia Pahang. Targeted respondent are 30 UMP students. They will pick randomly 10 students from each Kolej Kediaman 1, Kolej Kediaman 2 and Kolej Kediaman 3.

3.2 Data Collection The data will be collected through questionnaire.We use close-ended questions in our questionnaire. Then, we will collect all the questionnaire sheets and analyze them.

3.3 Data Analysis From all the data we have collected, we will analyze it by using the simple percentage method. Finally, we will group it by using the pie charts and bar charts.

4.0 Result and Discussion

The pie chart from figure 1 illustrates about percentage of connection that student UMPs used. According to the survey, 33% whos student leave at the KK1, KK2, KK3 use wireless while 67% that student use wired (LAN cable). From that pie chart, many of student used Wired (LAN cable) because KK1 and KK3 have wired and wireless connection but KK2 only have wired connection. Use the wired connection also give more stability connection than wireless.

The graphs from figure 2 show about overall rates for internet connection system at UMP hostel give by students. Based on the graph, no students have rate for excellent and good. Average rate has the highest percentage which is 60%,while rate for bad is 40% .Many of students think overall rate internet connection is average and need to improve.

According to the pie chart, increase the bandwidth are highest than the others which is 38%,while 32% for capacity of server should increased and 21 % for used wired(LAN cable) for all hostel. The lowest opinion students choose is use wireless for all hostel which is 9%.

5.0 Conclusion 5.1 Summary of the result As we can see from the figure, majority of student use wired connection compare to wireless connection. Wired connection also gives more stability and UMP management should provide more wired connection at hostel. From the figure 2 we can see overall student choose to rate average and bad for overall rate connection system at UMPs hostel. It proves that many of them not satisfy with internet performance. Many of them agree the main problem for internet performance at UMP hostel is internet connection speed is slow. They face difficult to open the website, so their time will waste. Their assignment that need use the internet also will take a long time to complete. So internet performance is very important to student.

Lastly in figure 3 show the possible solution to improve internet performance at UMPs hostel. Most of the respondents choose increase the bandwidth and increase the capacity of servers. It because student capacities in UMP increase year by year and the internet performance needs to

improve. The other solution is use wired connection for all hostel, it because wired connection give more stability than wireless connection

5.2 Limitations of the study a) Difficult to find the related journal or article with our title.
b) Limited of respondents feedback a few questionnaire. So, we can not know the most

problem that students face. c) The questionnaire we give to respondent is close-ended question, so respondent cannot give their own opinion. 5.3 Suggestion for further study based on the research outcome a) We suggest that the topic should be more common, So, we can find the related literature reviews based on our research. b) We suggest that the questionaire should be advertise more to find the accurate results. c) We must put one or two column for repondents to give their own opinion. 5.4 Concluding remarks

From our research, we can conclude that internet performance at UMPs hostel have advantage and disadvantage for student.The main advantage for student in UMP, they can use the internet anytime from their hostel. Beside the advantage, UMP management should improve the internet performance to solve the problem that always happenned such as the slow internet connection speed. To overcome this problem UMP management need to add capacity of server and increased the bandwith. .
