Title of Poem:

Explain who the author is along with things that strike you as important or interesting: -Edgar Allan Poe: first well-known American poet who tried to make a living off of writingled to a difficult life. -Orphaned very young. -Genre: Dark romanticism, gothic, etc. Paraphrase the poem: Let me kiss your forehead while I leave. And let me say that youre right if you have decided that my life has been a dream. But if hope has left in reality or not, is it actually gone? Everything around us is just a dream. I stand in the middle of a shore holding sand. There isnt much but they still find their way out of my hands to the ocean again. Now Im crying because I cant hold the sand no matter how hard I try. Can I not save the sand from the waves? Is everything around us just a dream? Is it narrative? lyrical? Or dramatic? Lyrical Organization & Structure: List stanzas, lines per stanza, end-rhyme, meter, grammar, word choices, connotation etc. -2 Stanzas with 11 lines in the first stanza, and 13 lines in the second. -24 lines total. - End-rhyme: AAABBCCDDBBEEFFGGGHHIIBB -Older English words such as O and thus. -Older English grammar. The imagery that comes to mind for me is a stormy ocean and a man who is very confused about life and why things are happening to him. The atmosphere is gloomy and morbid.
