By Brian Cheong

July 8th, 2011, Taman Pertanian Shah Alam- Universiti Tun Abdul Razak (UNIRAZAK) students were among the few who participated in the 30-Hour Famine, one of World Visions Malaysia many projects. Malaysia host almost 140 Do-It-Yourself camps nationwide hoping to raise funds for the poor to overcome poverty and embracing the well-being amongst unfortunate children. The theme for this year was Hunger For Health. 2011 marks the first year UNIRAZAK has ever participated in this event and was hosted by the UNIRAZAK Chinese Student Association (UCSA).The 30-Hour Famine D.I.Y camp was a 2 day 1 night camp involving almost 30 students. Taman Pertanian, Shah Alam was the venue for the camp. The 30-hour famine began at 10am (8th July 2011) and lasted thru 4pm (9th July 2011). Students were able to get themselves involved in this event with the guidance of the camp-leader, Ms Tan Chai Ying and participants were at their best form even through the process of famine with the supervision of 18 other committees. Throughout this whole event, participants were taught a few important lifelong lessons. As they involved themselves in the Famine Challenge I and II, they were taught the danger of having insufficient immunization, insufficient nutrients and felt the pain of not having a shelter over their heads but at the end of these challenges, it was hoped that they would really appreciate things that they have and incorporate what they have learnt through the 30-Hour Famine Camp into their daily lifestyle. As the 30-Hour was almost at its end, a sharing session was done whereby the campers were suppose to share their experience and feeling after going thru this camp. ...It was an unforgettable camp and would hope to see you soon for the next camp!...-Michelle Lim Overall the camp was knowledgeable and informational, without going thru this camp, I would not have been able to know what people in poorer countries are going thru daily-Brian Cheong This 30- hour famine camp has really taught us to be more patient and acceptable to people surrounding us. It was definitely not a waste of time Main committee Seeing that they were able to understand the true meaning of Hunger For Health, UNIRAZAK has once again succeeded in hosting their first-ever D.I.Y 30-Hour Famine Camp.
